I sincerely believe we wont actually have that many issues to play the game once it goes live, the failure is not being timely yet again

They took down the servers to flag all accounts for D3 beta access. It's the same thing that happened when the "Starter Edition" allowed access to anyone a couple of days ago. They had to bring the servers down to "fix" it. They're just pretty much doing the reverse now.

Bashiok @Bashiok
#D3 open beta is not live yet. We're working on some last minute config issues but expect it to be ready very soon. Hold tight!

Because a lot of people will play the beta, and a portion of those will be disapointed with the game and not buy it afterward.

The open beta is almost reado and we're in the process of finalizing some last configurations and settings before we can let everyone in. As a reminder this is a stress test and we do expect that connection and latency issues could occur. We appreciate your patience as we put the service under a heavy strain, and thank you for your assistance in helping us do so. We'll profide an update here as soon as the open beta is live.
Basically they've still got to flip some switches. I've never heard blizzard communicate this openly though. Most of the time they'd just let us wait without any news whatsoever.
