I agree act 1 exterior could look better The bottom chunk of his post is talking about unrewardingness of leveling which I only agree insofar as this is a beta and the fact that this is a beta means when you play you know everything you do will be erased within a month, probably less. Once release hits every level you gain with each class is one you won't have to do again unless you switch to hardcore or want to just for fun. I'm assuming they can't do ladder resets for years and years since they are supporting people buying things for money and that's why RMAH is out of hardcore(because you can lose it and it causes negative customer experience) So yeah I felt much less motivated to level for the sake of leveling knowing it's a beta which I think he mistakenly identified as poor design. Anything else you want me to address specifically?

This is bad game design. At that time Diablo 2 was head and shoulders above other RPGs so this negative user experience probably didn't hurt the game that much. Blizzard will not and should not risk that again as the genre has much more competition now and realizing you fucked up your character and you can't fix him is a very very good reason to try a different game. Citation: + Show Spoiler + It was awarded a spot in the Guinness Book of World Records 2000 edition for being the fastest selling computer game ever sold, with more than 1 million units sold in the first two weeks of availability. As of August 29, 2001, Diablo II had sold 4 million copies worldwide.[31] The game has received the "Computer Game of the Year", "Computer Role Playing Game of the Year", and "Game of the Year" awards from the Academy of Interactive Arts and Sciences at the 2001 Interactive Achievement Awards.[31] People are forgetting that when they were really into D2, their new characters were generally being rushed to hell by their friends so they could forego having to level up and get straight to the skills they wanted to use. This is exactly what Diablo 3 is going to help you do. After playing in the Diablo 3 leveling system it's actually really sick imagining the game using the Diablo 2 system. The runestone system more than makes up for any desire for customization especially since all of the runestones have different graphics which means each class effectively has over 100 different skills not including passives. On the subject of stat points, if you were really good you knew what late game gear you were gonna use and knew exactly how much STR and DEX you needed to put it all on and then the rest went into VIT or EN... is that really so exciting? If you didn't know your late game gear but were still planning on being perfectly efficient with them you generally just saved most of your stat points and said to yourself you'd figure out what you needed later. If you were new you made mistakes and then had a dud character. If you were new and didn't care about being efficient then more power to you, I suppose I could see how you might get more fun out of the d2 stat system but you should still understand that you are the minority and Blizzard has to cater to the best experience for the highest number of people so you still shouldn't complain. Late level hard decisions > early level hard decisions and to that end, and because I've only said the word twice so far in this post... + Show Spoiler + runestones runestones runestone btw I am doing wizard next video, maybe done tomorrow!

It is so frustrating. 95 percent of requests are answered with: Runestones It is already in the game It will be in the game for release People just dont read. And people who don't read don't deserve their questions answered because you can't guaruntee they are going to read your answer. Unless you are feeling charitable of course.

While I'm posting I might as well ask a few questions though, what do you think of building a critical hit focused barb with the skills ancient spear and throwing weapon (excuse me if that's not the skill name) and the passive that grants them bonuses on critical hits? Or how about, a summoning witch doctor that spams poison dart runed for returning mana to try to get as many Fetishes as possible through the passive Fetish Sycophants? These are just wacky theory builds but my Diablo 3 excitement is brewing over and I had to let off some steam before I had an "anticiplosion."

That post is worth the read. Explains a lot about the game mechanics of D3 and Character Development.

The way the game was designed, people doing their first playthroughs I would say almost always made some errors which would make them feel their character was flawed later on when they realized they have misplaced stat or skill points. This is bad game design. I understand the point you're making, but there are also a lot of negatives about the new system that aren't being addressed. One problem with the current system is that it really limits replayability. On Diablo 2, I must have leveled 3-4 sorceresses to 70+. I had an orb sorc, a hydra sorc, a charged bolt sorc, a flame wall sorc. Once I level a wizard to 60, I'm never making another wizard on this game again, and neither will anybody else except maybe for vanity, because it's a waste of time. Another problem is that it creates a sense of not being invested in your character and your builds. When you had a new idea, you tried it out with the knowledge that you may be the only person or one of very few who will have that character - and it's a lot more fun to have created an interesting build yourself, put time and effort into it, and as a result, possess something that other people don't have. You can't just walk to an altar and copy it or explore every possible option within hours. I'm not saying that the new system is inferior, but there are negatives that people don't address often. This trend towards low-investment, low-risk character building in modern RPGs (it's not just Diablo) is much more friendly to new people but it does leave me with a bad taste in a lot of ways.

I agree that is a valid concern. Blizzard will be taking on the challenge of adding end-game content to satisfy their players. If the AH is a successful money maker for them, which I expect it will be, they should have no problem putting fairly significant manpower on keeping the game alive for years to come. Hopefully I'm not being too optimistic but we'll have to wait to find out...

BUT in d2 it was not that easy even in the beginning. remembering you have this crap cracked broken white weapons like a club or sword even with the necro and you run out mana, you have to bash the zombies 2 or 3 times. I remember fearing go to map 2 (you know after that amazon warns you in the entrance) before finish the quests in the map 1, so you have a companion and are stronger, otherwise you enter this area by mistakes and see this pack of haunted amazon rushing towards you for sure death. So it was the beginning of D2 maps. NOT THAT EASY. now, D3 vids, whatever class, looks like 1 shot kill all in the map, is looks so so so boring really, I wish I'm wrong. really do. but all vids, you 1 shot, 1 hit, 1 zap spell, any monster with the whatever you start the game with, and the enemies just puff death. i mean, really? ... i don't know... is blizzard wanting you to play the whole game once to learn it , you will die bored before finishes the first run ![]() feels like you have this special bombs that kill all enemies in the maps with one click. I wonder for how long in the first run will be that boring. (I refuse to say easy anymore) hope I'm wrong.

I think Jay Wilson answered this concern best in this video from blizzcon 2011 Diablo 2 was at least this easy at this point in the game. And this contains some footage of higher difficulty gameplay for reference. So if you haven't seen it yet, that video should offer a lot of comfort ^.^

You need to have played ALL of d2 and ALL of d3 to even begin to form an opinion on difficulty comparisons, right?
