- Congratulations on your win. Comments on that? ▲ First of all, it feels good to defeat MarineKingPrime.WE, the Terran that I acknowledge as one of the best Terran players. This all feels unreal as this is my first finals win in my life.
- There were expectations of 4-0 if everything went according to your plans, and it happened. Did you expect that would become a reality? ▲ I didn't think I would win 4-0 even if everything went as I planned. It all went much better than I thought. I think that I was very lucky to achieve a 4-0 win.
- In a pre-game interview, you said you would show how fast Marines can be? ▲ I found out that MarineKingPrime.WE likes to use Marine+Marauder combo to deal with the Siege Tanks. So, I thought I could probably use Marines only to deal with that combo, and it seemed to have worked.
- If you were to assign a concept for the strategies in each matches you played, what would they be? ▲ I prepared specifically only for the first match. Second match and onward, I played as I went. It looks like the luck continued to be with me since the first match.
- Both Code S and Code A finals were won by a Terran. What do you think about that? ▲ I heard that next season, there'll be new maps. I believe the current situation will change when maps change. I do not personally believe that Terran is much stronger than other races.
- The fact today's victory is the very first victory in the line of regular seasons, should make you happy. It appears other players will challenge you, which one do you think is most threatening? ▲ As I have mentioned in other interviews, IMNesTea is the most daunting player to face. I hope to see him somewhere near the finals in the next season.
- Did any specific player gave you the most help during your practice sessions? ▲ I wrote that list on my cell phone, since so many have helped me! (laugh). TSL.Clide, ST.Sound, ZeNeXBleach, SlayerSCchapSeungEu, IMGanZi, Kim Hyung-Jin, Yun Hyung-Seo, TSL.aLive, ST.Bomber, ST.Virus -- they all have helped me to win today.
- There's a team league before the start of Season 2. IM didn't have a good record in the invitational before. Do you plan to participate in the team league? ▲ Of course. There is no GSL matches scheduled during that time, so I will proactively participate. There's two finals winners in our team now, and thus, should achieve a good winning record this time.
- How much of your real skills do you think you have shown? ▲ I think I am well suited for a big stage like this. I believe I have shown 100% of my skills without tensing up.
- You seemed to have read what the opponent is doing. Any secrets? ▲ I did not predict ahead of time of every builds that MarineKingPrime.WE could have done. In the 2nd match, I thought he would do a proxy Banshee rush, but by finding that he had built a Command Center, it allowed me to win without much problem.
- Last comments? ▲ I want to say thanks to Lee Jae-Kyun coach for sending me encouraging texts and for calling me to do well whenever I had a match. He has a match tomorrow with Woongjin, and I wish for his team to win. I want to say thanks to all the fans and team members, and I will work hard to be much better next season.

great to hear manager lee still supporting mvp even though he has left the bw scene.

He read MKP like a book in every damn game and exploited it marvelously.
MKP went heavy mech in first game and MVP took advantage of that by taking gold and forcing a confrontation at the middle with his superior positioned siege tanks
2nd game he found the proxy cc, then proceeded to drop and punish MKP for spreading himself too thin between the gold and his main, and predicted MKP's base trade attempt at the end perfectly.
3rd game he abused MKP's standard 1 rax CC opener with a 4 rax timing attack before he had enough to defend, bunkered up and defended his all-in extremely well.
4th game he again predicted MKP going for his back rocks with his more mobile MM, and got there before MKP could break them, and he took significant damage while trying. MVP exploited that by immediately pushing in and containing MKP, and again predicted his attempt to base trade and took minimal losses with forces he kept back at home.
MVP was always 1 step ahead of MKP, almost to a sickening degree, and deserved every win of his 4-0.

seriously, one the best managers forreal and an old schooler.

is a beast. One of the only Terrans I really enjoy watching. It's nice that each race has now won at least one GSL.
As for the landing mules thing, I don't know why but I really like it. Some other races should do something like that. Spam FF/guardian shields or something. I don't really know what zerg could do besides /dance or whatever that command is.

yuou should add a spoiler tag to this.
:| Do people really read threads that have an interview with the winner and expect no spoilers? I don't....I don't understand that.
Regarding the mules, it's not as much bad-mannered as it is telling your opponent he has lost and can quit now. Nobody wants to watch a match after everybody knows who won.
Thanks for the translation, I prefer it to hearing translated live interviews which most of the time feels really awkward. ... Maybe except the time Artosis/Tasteless had to the toilet and John did the whole thing himself, commenting that he too wanted to go to the toilet. That really made me laugh, and the interview was nice and snappy. :D
the finals were not disappointing at all. if you were rooting for mkp...ofc it was well i always like to see someone is owning his opponent. mvp showed just pure skill in a beautiful way...
MVP could be an example of what would happen if an A-teamer from BW switched over to Starcraft 2. I wonder what would happen if players like Flash or Jaedong switched.

That awesome trophy was the model of the assembled artifact from the campaign.
I really kinda wonder why some people did not enjoy these finals. Sure a bit short and not everybody enjoys TvT, but the skill level demonstrated by MVP was out of this world. Literally made my jaw drop on multiple occasions.

although bw skills do translate to sc2, the two games may still emphasize different skills. one can argue that build analysis/anticipation and timing is more important for sc2 at this current phase of the game than sheer mechanics or reflex. i think the smarter/sharper players from bw would do better in sc2.

The part in bold. This was a great finals! Yes it was only 4 games, but they were 4 good games. MKP is a really good player, I really didn't see anything that he did "bad". MVP just outplayed him so much that it was amazing to watch him catching everything and out thinking MKP. On a personal level, I actually like TvT the most out of all the mirror matches and is the most enjoyable mirror to watch I think. I love the tank posturing, the medivac drops, the viking battles, epic banshee harrass, the breathless stim charges and etc.
IMMVP is most definitely the most valuable player in Starcraft 2 right now :D. Great to see his former BW coach still supporting him. Perhaps us TL netizens have a thing or two to learn from him .

Congrats to IMMvp and thanks for the interview!
TvT is the most dynamic mirror matchup for sure. ZvZ sucks and PvP is colossus numbers >.<
But, I would disagree that MKP didn't do anything bad. He just didn't play his strongest during his games. I think these were not necessarily bad games but MKP's poor performance means it def wasn't as exciting to watch as it could have been.
MKP practised alot - like he said he would - on strategies that would counter his style's counter. Let me rephrase that. MKP is known for going heavy on his MMM mobile army in almost every TvT matchup. And he's known for early aggression.
MVP didn't prepare "anything" except the first match - I believe. In that regard MKP relied on MVP to go for a more defensive style - sort of like what Clide did in the groupplay -> Stay at your base with bunkers and let MKP be the on to engange first. And then counterattack him. But instead he basicly followed MKP's "own" builds.
The only time MKP ever really stayed true to his style was on Blister, but by then he was outplayed both mentally and gamewise.
I'm sure going into this matchup MKP was alot more confident in his plan, being the fact that their winratio is basicly 50/50 on the ladderr (according to MKP himself). If he had gone for a more aggressive style - like he did against hopetorture - he could have had a better outcome. This is not to take any glory away from MVP - by all means. The guy is actually the 4th race of SC2 - one whom doesn't have any weaknesses for now. I mean, he predicted every basetradescenario. At one point I was like "wtf" when MKP entered his base (my memory fails on which map) and MVP had an even bigger army there waiting for him, while attacking MKPs base at the same time!
Btw: I'm actually shocked that Nick/Dan didn't notice MKP completly changing up his style until the 4th game - where he actually went for 1rax expo.. lol

MVP actually comes from the generation of BWpros with insane mechanical ability minimum 400apm and all that jazz.
Thanks for the translation! I wasn't able to catch the games, but it doesn't seem like I missed all that much.. Though we really need someone who isn't so polite to win and get an interview like this.
Another disappointing finals. The matchup was more exciting than last time atleast, with MKP and MVP, but I hoped for some epic back and forth games. I hope for GSL 5 to have some more excitement to it
Both Code S and Code A finals were won by a Terran. What do you think about that? ▲ I heard that next season, there'll be new maps. I believe the current situation will change when maps change. I do not personally believe that Terran is much stronger than other races.
I think that MVP is right, its not necessarily Terran that is OP, but just the maps. I really hope that the new maps next season will help against the Terran dominance. Watching Tv[insert other race here] got a little boring after a while.

you're right, the maps are pretty boring now because they've been figured out completely (it's already 6 months past the first time SC 2 hit the retails). Even in the OSL/MSL they have different maps so that there would be no type of dominance. well, except for Flash that is ^_^

Well, if you didnt have anything better to do, it was okey. If you watched the OSL finals after, its like night and day in comparison, like a dream you remember for days after experiencing it.
I love sc2, and in a few years Im sure it will be fun to watch. That is usually not the case right now with the finals we are having. But watching whitera last night was very fun, so it's not the games fault entirely.
MKP choked, when his new strategy was failing in game one you could see his inexperience with using the new composition of units, after that game it was blatant that his nerves had taken over.

Those two are one of the smartest ones in bw + mechanically superior players so they would actually do fine in the new game
I srsly didnt think MVP was gunna 4-0 MKP but MVP was the much stronger player on this day. Congrats MVP too bad you didnt win last season cuz you would have gotten so much more money >< but hey, as long as you win a few more GSLs you can gain some more money
I dunno why so many of you are saying it was a disappointing finals, unless it's only because of how 1-sided it was, but that was 100% MvP's merit, he played flawlessly.

Morph all your zerglings into banelings in your opponent base.
I still remember watching MVP when he made his first few proleague appearance for Woojin, he was always such a nervous wreck and sucked so much that we always joked on irc about how he was gonna be the next bonjwa. His BW coach really knew his potential back then.
To tell the truth, it's very sad that MKP decided to try other strategies besides what he is known for. I mean, he has perfected his all-in marine style, by no means he could practice other strats enough.
Oh well, in any case MVP knew exactly how to counter hardcore marines.

There is some truth to this, but everyone that got A team good at BW has the work ethic and RTS knowledge to excel at any similar game. I think it's true that the more cerebral players will find they will get a lot more leeway with their mechanics (not that some need it) but the very best will be at a different level in both phases of the game. Personally I want to see ForGG pick up SC2. Not only would he be the best player to have switched, but his BW play-style seems especially suited for SC2 Terran in its current state.
On January 31 2011 04:22 JayDee_ wrote: Is MVP the only A-Teamer currently competing in SC2?
Yes MC played in Dream League (The B-team league) and played 2 PL game's and lost both.
If you want to exclude the older players (NaDa, boxer, whatever) you have Tester (Trickster or ssKs) and Sangho (Killer) left.
Tester hardly played at all in 2010. MVP and Sangho were the only A teamers still in their pirme and getting regular playing time who are in SC2 now. I guess Guemchi would have counted also but he's switched back to bw.

MVP had an excellent strategy to counter the normal style MKP plays and forced him to attempt those strategies he is less familiar with. It was nice to see a SC2 player coming up with an excellent strategy based on his opponent, rather than some new build order they expect to surprise their opponent or a build order they think is invincible and will always work. Wish more players would develop strategies like this. Not to say MVP didn't play amazingly with his own macro and micro, but one of the main ingredients to him "sweeping" MKP was how good his strategy was. MKP switching his unit composition leaves him at a disadvantage because of his lack of familiarity, and his normal strategy was countered perfectly, he just wasn't going to win this series.

At home, just patrol the sunkens.
build nydus worm. connect to opponents base. Choose one of the following. A. 6 pools in the opponent's base. B. Unload Queen and Spam creep tumors until "LoL" is spelled out, or "Gg" works as well.
If Nydus is not a reasonable solution, both of these work in own base as well, tough not as immediately noticeable.
I thought game 2 and 3 were close, so I enjoyed the finals overall. Yes MVP's trophy kissing was weird. I think he had his agent/PR manager telling him to make a bunch of photo-friendly poses. Also IMNestea should feel great that he was the only person to get a game off of IMMVP the whole tourney!

hmm i guess you don't consider nada or slayers boxer A teamers right?
I meant "recent A-Teamers". Like somebody who was competing somewhere close to the highest level before they switched to SC2. I wouldn't consider boxer or nada in that category. I'm surprised we don't have more high level BW-->SC2 converts yet.
