Emperor SlayerS_BoxeR, 'it was fun playing NaDa'
BoxeR defeated NaDa in the 'Match of Legends' with a score of 3:1 and he will face IMNesTea in the semi finals.
Q. How does it feel to win in a heavily anticipated match? A. When NaDa typed in GG, it felt like I had just won the tournament. I felt like I couldn't control myself, but I'm worried to face NesTea, because my TvZ is mediocre and there is little time to practice. However, this type of challenge has motivated me in the past, so I will try not to worry too much.
Q. You lost the first set. A. NaDa came up with unexpected builds. One of them was 1 barracks CC, and I definitely read his play wrong. The distance was far and not enough room for banshee harassment; made me realize that he wasn't an easy opponent. In practice, I focused on his play rather than to focus on my own. I expected him to use banshees more, but he used different strategies which made me uncomfortable.
Q. Your harassment play shined even in dangerous situations. A. The new game mechanics have helped my multitasking. I still think other players are better in that regard, but the gap is smaller, so it fits me very well.
Q. You've already accomplished your first goal (Code S), is your next goal to win the tournament? A. Goals are meant to change. Right now it's to go on the grand stage, and the last obviously is to win the tournament. Even if I lose, zerg is on a roll lately, so I will be less pressured.
Q. Since there are 3 terrans in the top 4, there are still talks that terran is the strongest race. A. There are just more terrans on battlenet. There are way more terrans that lost to zergs this season. I've personally asked zerg players and they told me it's a piece of cake beating terrans now (laughs).
Q. You will face NesTea in the semi final. A. He is in my division, so I play him a lot on ladder. I can tell he's already having a headache trying to prepare for the match, since I like to mix things up. I should prepare too as soon as possible, and I will try my best to do another interview on this chair again.
Q. NesTea said that he wanted to play against you. A. That's probably because he's seen me often on ladder. I haven't played a zerg in so long, and I don't have zerg practice partners. I'm going to go contact zerg players right now.
Q. You paused the game in the middle. A. I was clicking the mouse, but the screen froze. Not sure if it was the mouse or the computer, and I wanted to just keep going but didn't want that to happen again. I didn't think they would disqualify me for that, so I paused (laugh). I will bring another mouse next time. (note: LOL @ Kespa reference)
Q. NaDa didn't look so bad after the loss. A. It was fun playing NaDa. Since the match was so hyped up, and that it was such a big issue, I think we both had fun.
Q. What was it like to play NaDa? A. It seemed like he benefited a lot from oGs. I didn't prepare as well. In BW, it was the other way with me preparing more. I also noticed that my win rate is higher when going for management games.
Q. NaDa even used a nuke on you. A. I thought to myself that he prepared well. He had more tanks and even nuked me. I usually just practice for Bo1 and Bo3's so I was jealous that he was so well prepared.
Q. Are you thinking about creating your own team? A. I'll think about that when I have the time. It will be after the GSL, but I think that's definitely a possibility if I have the right sponsors.
Q. Any comments? A. There are many players that helped me for this match. STXfOu, TSL_Clide, MioWeRRa and MakaPrime have been helping me previously, and I credit them for my success so far. I hope you publish their names on the interview so they feel satisfied (laugh). There is one more match until the finals, so I will try hard till the end.
Original interview in Korean (www.fomos.kr): + Show Spoiler +‘황제’ 임요환(무소속)이 ‘천재’ 이윤열(oGs)와의 대결에서 승리를 거뒀다.

Omg hahaha. I laughed so hard.

Between Clide and Maka, Boxer had the best practice partners possible for TvT
I hope FD will help him practice TvZ and win the whole thing.

Gonna be hard for Boxer to make it to the finals, would be impressive if he wins the whole thing.

Thanks for the translation CanucksJC! <3
|
Thank you so much for this translation.
Boxer is very humble and very well spoken. He even gives credit to his practice partners - a very nice move.
|
Awesome translation! I would hope that some big name Zerg steps in to help the Emperor!
|
Hope it's ok to repost these for the people who didn't read through the live report thread.
last one is so adorable

Gom have to be rooting so hard for Boxer to at least make the Finals, if not win it all. Not only is he a legend, but his play is so creative and entertaining, and his micro is off the charts. If he faces off with Foxer, it could end up being one of the best matches ever.

Just when you thought July 27th marked the date for the greatest internet event yet - BoxeR writes his own history on November 2nd. Fucking loved every minute of it, can't wait to see what he comes up with against NesTea.

love to see a guy so happy about winning, even for someone like BoxeR who has won thousands of games and been on the world stage so much already

Tbh I thought NaDa will be wining this so easily also thought that NaDa was hiding skills or something but he just played with his all because of the emperor! nothing to say now after all is the emperor, probably if NaDa practice even more for GSL 3 he will be the real issue. Boxer is Boxer, what more can you say?
And given that he is Boxer, there's very few Zerg he can't choose from as a practice partner. He can pretty much call anyone he wants. Either way, given that I didn't find the BW scene until very recently, I'm glad that I've been able to watch some live Boxer games.

If he makes his own team in SC2, never mind winning GSL , he will have completed his destiny.
And frankly, it was a little disappointing hearing about the prize money in the English questions. It's not really about the money for Boxer anymore.

inb4 Boxer vs Foxer, with an epic 4-3 win for boxer!!

you can get vods from the Chinese sites, but they are Korean Observers. IMHO the observers in these vods are better than the English cast, you will miss less actions.
Hint: Just look for translations here on TL that's from Chinese sources.

Boxer I am disappoint. How can you say stuff like this? The entire community was screaming how Terran overpowered Zerg in the matchup and you get small nerfs like reaper, tank, and nerfs like supply before rax (which just forces T to play a more macro-style opening) which weren't close to drastic changes for balance and you spew stuff like this? What Zerg players did he ask? I'm curious because I wonder which pro Z player will say that seeing 3 out of top 4 players are T.
I mean, we know Boxer's career is on the line when it comes to balance, and any human will try to further his benefit by calling a unbalanced game as a balanced game if his job depended on it, but goddamn.

by your logic, zerg is the most powerful race when Fruit Dealer won the tournament. It's not about the number of races left or who wins. look at win loss percentages, And tanks doing 35 on light is huge. roach range is huge as it takes alot more marines to reach critical mass. depot rax guranteed safe hatch first openings on alot of ladder maps (not that big of a deal really, but just puts pressure on terran to do something.) Those aren't minor nerfs/buffs for either race.
and why should boxer just close his eyes and peretend balence is fine. The guys a pro gamer his observations and complaints are more important than yours no matter how frivolous they seem (see Idra after every loss)
But i apologize for destracting from the thread topic.

I find this picture quite good for a reason. Boxer probably sees NaDa as a mountain he could never cross in Brood War (accomplishment-wise), and he did it in SC2.

WOW I want Boxer to win SO BAD now. GO BOXER

shykoreangirl got most of what I wanted to say in reply to you, lastmotion. I don't see how you could possibly see depot before rax as just a "small nerf." You give the exact implications in that it forces Terrans to play a certain way. It really cut off some of the creative, aggressive openings. That said, I don't think Terran is broken and I'm positive that everything will balance out really well. Just look at all the awesome matches we've seen in just the early life of the game! :D
Also, <3 you guys. Between the jab at FruitDealer for having a lot of free time because of his loss, the Gracken and Super Saiyan BoxeR I actually laughed out loud, which I don't normally do to forum posts.
I'm really excited about BoxeR's career in SC2. He should help bring it more into the spotlight and bring even more Korean fans over. Without shitty KeSPA and the more "free market" scene with tons of SC2 tourneys, the atmosphere is just so exciting! I feel like we're getting to watch a real revolution in e-sports!

THE EMPEROR practicing with FruitDealer would be amazing...

Great win by boxer, I felt like Nada beat him self more than boxer. Throughout the tourney I think Nada was a more solid player and was very patient. It seemed like against boxer he was pushing on spots when he should've been holding his contain and playing the macro game. Nada kept trying to attack off 2 base vs 2 base instead of playing against boxers weakness, which is the macro game.
I loved the nuke play by nada on Delta quadrant, but he shouldn't have pushed!! That definitely lost him the game when he tried to TLO against boxer when boxer himself said he admired TLO's terran the most.

And frankly, it was a little disappointing hearing about the prize money in the English questions. It's not really about the money for Boxer anymore. It is always about the money though. Progamming career is short enough as it is, he has to think for his future too.
He made anywhere between 300-500k (USD equivalent) for several years in salary + whatever sponsorship/advertisement deals + previous tournament winnings and his fiance is a successful Korean actress. I think he's pretty much set.

Well aparently Boxer is the one that makes it furthest in the GSL2

I didn't get to watch it live since it was too late for me (damn morning classes), but congrats BoxeR! I didn't root for any player since it could have gone either way. It will be crazy if he does win GSL 2.

Boxer just has this aura that no other player will ever have... can't exactly describe it really...

Well I did pick NaDa so my liquibet is shot... BUT WHO GIVES A SHIT IT'S BOXER. If he wins it all it'll be great for sc2 in korea, I bet blizz is really rootin hard right now.

ABSOLUTELY EPIC!!! This was really great to watch, I hope that boxer can beat nestea and we get FakeBoxer vs RealBoxer finals :D

Nice interview Boxer and Nada showed us some impressive and refreshing Terran play. I love how Boxer uses Vikings. All in all it feels good to see ex-sc1 players perform that well in sc2.
edit: and yes, you can criticize Boxer's point of view but that will be irrelevant because this man has nothing to prove.

Sorry for my ignorance.
So glad for Boxer. I thought he was done as a progamer. Let's see how it goes from now...

I'm hoping that Boxer can overcome his weakness in TvZ, not only for the sake of struggling Terran players but because of my raging fanboyism. Emperor fighting!

I really thought NaDa would win quite easily, but Nada played terrible in G3 and 4 while Boxer played solid in all 4 games. I still think NesTea is gonna beat Boxer, but I'm not so sure this time. Also, I'm always happy when Boxer wins, he deserves it more than anyone.

Boxer brought the Terran race out of the dark ages in BW back when it was thought to be the weakest and was renown for using strategies that many thought were suicidal (i.e marine+medic vs lurkers) and overcoming disadvantages with sheer skill. If he starts talking about balance, people would do well to listen.

You give the exact implications in that it forces Terrans to play a certain way. It really cut off some of the creative, aggressive openings. That said, I don't think Terran is broken and I'm positive that everything will balance out really well. Just look at all the awesome matches we've seen in just the early life of the game! :D
Depot before Rax was a justified nerf because : 1) Terran can play a more macro-orientated opening by expanding earlier and not be behind 2) Terran's early game was way too diverse and had too many options while Z was very limited. This requirement makes it a bit more fair. When one race has "creative & aggressive openings" early game while the other race has to constantly scout & defend & prepare for the "correct" opening, it's not very fair, is it?

I had respect for him in the past when he was in BW. I lost respect for him recently, especially in the latter days of BW. You might be too biased to see this, but his career IS on the line when it comes to balance. Let's say that Terran was nerfed so that all SCV's health was 5. Protoss or Zerg would just worker rush and kill T. If such a drastic nerf happened, why wouldn't Boxer's SC2 career suffer if he's going to keep losing? Do you lack the common sense to see the correlation between balance and game wins?

And you're kind of oblivious if you really think his "career is on the line" here. He's only doing it for the fans, he's already established himself over the last decade+. He has nothing to lose. I don't know why people make such a big deal when a top player shares his opinion on balance. People act like he just wrote what the next patch notes are going to be. It's his opinion, and the statistics of GSL2 certainly demonstrate there's alot of truth behind it.

Great job on these translations ;D

It was kinda sad to see the last two games. It reminded me of an anemic version of TLO rather than the Genius Terran.

First, thanks so much OP for doing these translations!
Second, I drifted away from following BW around the time that Nada was dominating (don't judge, I regret!) so it was absolutely fantastic being able to watch these two play. Nestea will be a hard match I feel, but the thought of Boxer potentially winning this gives me crazy nerd chills o.O

Have faith. SlayersBoxer is not going to lose a best of 7 in front of a live audience against a guy named Zergbong. Boxer got this.

Every round of this tournament (totally worth the 20 USD btw) I went in thinking that Boxer would lose while hoping he would win. After the first game I was convinced he would lose.
I'm so happy right now

If boxer makes a new team he should get Armani as sponsor and call the team Emperor Armani. His Armani shirt looks so nice, what a baller.

I doubt Boxer would wear fake designer clothes on national TV (err webcast?) as I'm pretty sure he does pretty well financially. His girlfriend is also rich (ok that doesn't have that much to do with anything except.. if Boxer *were* to wear something fake she could probably buy him the real deal).
In anycase! By virtue of the fact that Boxer is wearing the shirt.. it is real no matter what imo.

GO BoxeR! EMporer forever.

These GSL interviews are so much nicer than the cookie cutter interviews most bw players always gave. I was rooting for Nada, but Boxer winning isn't a bad thing by any means. Be awesome if Boxer gets into the finals, I think that'll be a wake-up call to Korea that sc2 is worth looking into.

boxer will win this whole thing causing bw pros to exodus to sc2. five years down the road people will praise boxer as the messiah of sc2. you heard it here first

I am really pulling for Boxer now I hope he continues to do well.

His girlfriend is an actress, but it's pretty well known that her family has money.
|
I've had a Korean gf for 2 years now, and here is her answer when I asked about Boxer's gf:
"Yeah she's an actress, but nobody really knew her before she got engaged to Boxer. But her family is really rich though, I don't think she is rich because of her acting."
A funny side-node: my gf hates SC (probably because it has consumed the lives of so many of her friends ), but without hesitation she knew both the real names and the nicknames (i.e. The Emperor / Genius) of both Boxer and Nada.. amazing how huge these people are in Korea, even to those who distance themselves from the SC scene.

What a great man Boxer is.
After the first game, I was sure that NaDa would demolish Boxer with his superior macro but wow Boxer for GSL title gogogo

Thanks for the translation. What an amazing win... I hope he'll be in final ^_^

A lot of you guys don't seem to realize that compared to his TvT, his TvZ IS mediocre. he can't even beat idra because he never gets to practice against real zerg contenders on a consistent basis. it's not cause he's bad or can't stomp zerg face, he just really needs practice to make that happen.
