note: ITR is HopeTorture for those who didn't know... durr

HopeTorture makes consecutive semi finals, 'I really want to win this time'

HopeTorture advanced to the semi finals over the 2010 Blizzcon winner NEXGenius in a crushing victory.

Q. You've successfully advanced to the semi finals in 2 consecutive seasons.
A. For now, I'm glad that I won, I really want to win the whole thing this time. I'm going to try my best not to make the same mistakes I made last month.

Q. Many thought that this would be a tough match for you.
A. I was confused that NEXGenius didn't use his standard playstyle. I think he is the strongest when going standard robo build into collosus.

Q. The previous match (FoxeR vs KyrixZenith) was quite long.
A. The matches were very fun, not boring at all. They both have unique playstyles so I was anticipating the results between them. I wished that KyrixZenith would advance, because he doesn't seem to use the recent strong build orders, I think defensive zergs are the scariest to play against. Since he is so aggressive, I think it'll be easier to defend against him.

Q. You now face FoxeR in the semi finals.
A. I played him a couple times on ladder, but this has been awhile. He's not very well known, unlike myself, so we'll have to see in the end.

Q. You lost rather helplessly in the first set.
A. I thought NEXGenius would take advantage of the early game timings. I saw his voidray, so I thought he would just make one and expand like other oGs protosses. I tricked myself into losing this game, because I was only expecting collosus

Q. You barely pulled out the victory with cloacked banshees in the 2nd set.
A. If he was diagonal, I was planning to use banshees and when I saw that he was going blink stalkers, I thought I had won since robo is so delayed. However, I've never had practice against this build and this wasn't NEXGenius's usual playstyle, so I wasn't completely sure of myself. I only studied his collosus phoenix combination.

Q. In the 3rd set, you pulled off a unique marine thor all in.
A. I was expecting him to FE. I was trying to give him an impression that I was going to expand myself so made enough marines to deny any scout. I also practiced proxy 2 barracks, but this will not work post patch 1.1.2. I saw my teammate Shin Jung Min (who is this? apparently Qoo)Max, a zerg player according to wiki) do this thor all in during practice. If the opponent spends gas on more than 2 sentries then he cannot win against this. I thought this build would do fairly well on the 3rd set in Bo5, it's awesome if I win, but if I lose, I look like a complete scrub.

Q. In the 4th set, you reacted very well to voidrays.
A. The 1st set helped me a lot. I was expecting another FE, so I put down a reactor to put pressure. Unfortunately, he scouted that, so I improvised from that point on. He didn't look like he was going to expand, so I expanded myself and I saw the stargate with the reaper.

Q. In the 4th set, you even showed off some MnM dance.
A. NEXGenius called me a 'weak terran' in his interview. He said he practiced with decent terrans, but I don't think they were decent at all. I think he tried to fake me out. I also waved my hand after as a 'goodbye' :D.

Q. The semi finals will be a TvT.
A. I'm not sure how to plan it since it's a Bo7. There is a lot of luck involved and rock paper scissors BO battles are important as well.

Q. What do you think about Boxer vs NaDa?
A. Boxer is amazing at TvT, I learned lots from him. NaDa reminds me of myself from last season. No one expected him to get far, but he is learning very quickly. It's awesome to have those legendary players go at it.

Q. You said previously that you wanted to win in one of the GSL pre-seasons. Do you think now is your time?
A. We will see, I will definitely grab this opportunity if I can.

Q. If you move on to the finals, who do you want to play?
A. 100% Boxer. I've never faced him since we were teammates in SKT. I was jealous of players that played him in finals. No particular reason, he is an emperor, and it'll be an honour.

Q. Any other comments?
A. The moment NEXGenius won his Ro16 match, every protoss on bnet tried to help me out. He seems to have many anti fans among protosses. I practiced lots with sSKS and he promised that he'd treat me if I won, so I'm very grateful. He also practiced according to my schedule. Also special thanks to all the protosses in my team. Thanks to oGsInCa for making me laugh today. Also thanks to my girlfriend. Lastly, thanks to CellaWeRRa for the 'holy check'.

Original interview in Korean (www.fomos.kr):
+ Show Spoiler +

Man HopeTorture had a lot to say...

I think CellaWeRRa gave him a 'holy check' as a good luck charm or something... Not sure haha

Awesome, thx for the translation, I wonder if all those Toss just wanted NEXGenius to lose so Toss would look weaker (Like alot of ppl did with Fruit, eg, Idra :p), or there is some real beef, haaha. He does seem pretty cocky!

Honestly, I believe ITR v Foxer should be intense, win or lose - ITR is probably the more underrated of the players but so far has been the most consistent as the only one to technically qualify S class (yeah I know you only need to do it once) into Ro8 for both seasons so far.

Q. Many thought that this would be a tough match for you.
A. I was confused that NEXGenius didn't use his standard playstyle. I think he is the strongest when using collosus.

From what I saw, NEXGenius' "standard playstyle" is hard countered by ITR's thor all in so it's understandable that he would panic and try void rays in the 4th game. So I'm a bit confused by why ITR made this statement.

I think he meant the first couple games, he was expecting NEXGenius to go some safe standard collosus into adding in phoenix later. Since the first 2 games, his predictions were totally off so I think he was just scrambling mentally.

Excellent interview, mad props.
One of the best translations I've seen.

On topic of ITR, I think its pretty awesome that he took NEXGenius' BM without complaint, he simply just rolled over him

Shin Jung Min is (Z)Max, who normally plays Zerg as oGsSuperStar. pretty sure that's him, otherwise it's just somebody with the same name.

Lol. Can somebody confirm whether Nexgenius is the Korean Idra?

It might be that the other Korean Protosses were hoping that NexGenius would lose so that Blizzard would buff Toss (Just like Zergs in GSL1 hoped that Fruitdealer would lose so that Blizzard would realize how bad Zerg was), rather than a hatred of the player, especially since NexGenius stated that he would show everybody that Protoss was the strongest race.

And you need more than 2 sentries to hold off against a bio push...sh*t like this is why Protoss will never make it to a GSL final

As much as I LOOOOVEZ Tester, I would dare to say that Nexgenius has surpassed both Tester and Inca, but hey. Not seeing tester for 1month, he probably has some sick tricks up his sleeve for GSL3, if he manages to qualify this time :/

This is the best interview I've ever seen from a gamer. I've loved Rainbow since I was a kid and he's always been right up there with BoxeR at the top of my list of favourites. So happy to see him succeeding two seasons in a row and I really hope he destroys FoxeR in the semi-final. His cheeky hand-wave is just awesome, I love the amount of personality players like Zenio and Rainbow are introducing to a typically bland arena.

Oh snap. I think a majority of viewers already counted out HopeTorture. Maybe because of last season's finals or maybe just because so many other strong Terrans are in the tourny. I'm glad he made it and am looking forward to the semi finals match.

I would have thought that top protoss would stick together, I guess not.

I told it before the match, if after that interview where he said he practiced against better Terrans and that protoss is the strongest and his biggest obstacle was Inca and now he will win it, that if he doesn't, he will look like a complete ass. He seems one of the more BM koreans, and I don't care if people call it confidence. His interview, that finger "no" gesture...

I am glad he lost, quite frankly. What an arrogant ass, didn't achieve nearly as much as ITR, but likes to talk. I root for protoss, but fuck it, well done ITR!

As much as I LOOOOVEZ Tester, I would dare to say that Nexgenius has surpassed both Tester and Inca, but hey. Not seeing tester for 1month, he probably has some sick tricks up his sleeve for GSL3, if he manages to qualify this time :/

No, Tester plays so clean, so solid. NexGenius can look sloppy. He is a bit like oGsMC, can go for gimmicky "creative" stuff and become sloppy.

I have more faith in Sangho and Tester, among current crop. But frankly, the race being UP doesn't help.

In short, for me, Tester is still the best protoss out there.

What an interesting interview, ITR certainly has alot to say! I'm very interested regarding the attitude of other Korean pros towards NexGenius. Must be pretty bad because:
The moment NEXGenius won his Ro16 match, every protoss on bnet tried to help me out. He seems to have many anti fans among protosses. I practiced lots with sSKS and he promised that he'd treat me if I won, so I'm very grateful
.
Anyone have the NEXGenius interview where he calls ITR a "weak Terran"?

Also, I think ITR is a vastly underrated player. You don't get to the finals and semis 2 years in a row if you're not a solid player.

Wow. No wonder Toss isn't getting any representation. They're sabotaging their only competitor left! Lol.

NexGenius must have really pissed off some people.

I'm glad ITR made it. He deserves a chance at redemption after last GSL's subpar ending.

When hanging out with Cella at the GSL 1 finals, he told me that he and HopeTorture are very good friends that go way back, so I think it just stems from Cella giving him tons of support.

wow really long, nice and interesting answers. loving SC2 interviews because they are so colourful.

Was Genius in CJ with IdrA at one point?

anyway , aside from the bad manners that might happen in real life/bnet, many protosses probably dislike that Genius claimed that he was gonna be the Fruitdealer ( savior) of Protoss.

I saw the bye bye wave and i thought he was waving to the crowd or a friend. Definitely needed to make that BM less subtle imo!

Very nice interview. ITR gave some pretty fun/interesting answers. Not very mundane, like your typical postgame interview.

You are only saying that because you don't like players who show personality for whatever reason. If you watch the huge amount of replays of Genius, you can easily tell he's by far the most mechanically skilled protoss. The only reason Tester is regarded as the best is because of all the hype from Artosis, and when he got lucky multiple times holding off seemingly impossible situations. Nobody can beat Genius in a straight up standard game if he does his normal play.

awesome interviews, loving it so far that we actually have players with personality, with some drama going on...

definately beats SC1 progamers "i will try my best, oh i'm not so good, thanks for my fans, i will practise harder, i'm too shy to prepare a ceremony." bull craps...

hot damn GSL2 seems so much more epic than the first one!!!

I just feel genius standard games are just more sick then inca and maybe better then ssks. His probes production is always just nice and never too much if you watch his replays.

Just look at his blink stalkers rush replay if you can get a few, his timing fo 11 stalkers is always around 7mins 40+ seconds

... I define good as doing well under pressure and when it counts. So I think Genius was atleast somewhat scared of ITR to change things up.

I guess that doesn't say much about Tester either who failed to qualify.

Great interview, looks like they are getting better and better And we even hear some interesting thing about Korean toss scene, wonder what's that all about. I guess they are frustrated with bad results at tournaments, but shoudn't that get them closer, and working together to overcome obstacles, or they just want to chase N1 protoss title between themselves..who knows :/

Whoa, I had no idea NEXGenius was disliked in Korea. Shouldn't they like him for winning Blizzcon? Or is it just a manner thing. What reason would Tester have specifically to dislike Genius so much?

CellaWerra was practicing a lot with HopeTorture before Hope's game against Check. So the "Holy check" Which is Cella's trademark saying, meaning something like "Wow!" "Awesome!" "Holy shit!"(see the similarity? ), has a double meaning
Cella actually livestreamed the practice games, watched some of them. ^^

NEXGenius is very arrogant, thinks he's better than everyone, calling less skilled players weak, and such. ^^

Good interview. BM on Genius's part for biting more then he could chew. But, the only time I'd say "Holy Check" is if I won the GSL or a Major tournament and was holding that "Check" in my hand.

Does anyone else think it is funny that people think ITR sucks yet he pwns everyone and gets super far in every tournament he enters?

Yeah I think he did. Interesting to see beef between protosses PLEASE can we see Tester next GSL, so that we have a protoss we can all love. Though to be fair I still love Genius for being such an amazing protoss... Just that he does seem to bite off more than he can chew from time to time

ITR vs Boxer or Foxer vs Boxer sounds like epic finals!!!. And if not, I wouldn't mind too much in a TvZ finals. ANY WHICH WAY I'M STOKEDDD!!! All the people left are former progamers except for Foxer... kinda amusing they're dominating SC2 already.
