Looks like free stream for the tournament this year.Edit: Blizzcon page says $39.95. Booo. Hope that's just the main stream and not the tournament streams.
Doubt the tournament stream will be $40. Every other year they've had the tournament streams free, it's just all the discussions and such which are included with the $40.
I can just see Browder's commentary though. "And those collossi move in, and deal some terrible, terrible damage!" "Looks like those tank lines are going to do some terrible, terrible damage!" "Oh lord, that was some terrible, terrible damage!"

Nothing on their page inspires me to believe otherwise yet
WTF is the point of inviting the most important player of e-sports and SC2 and not allow him (along with the winner of GSL) to participate in the tournament? Absolutely disgraceful how Blizzard has handled the selection process.

They didn't participate (or weren't invited) to the Blizzcon qualification tourney in KR.
However, I think EU/NA/Russia are invite-only and hence we see TLO who doesn't really ladder in EU.

"Hey Boxer and Cool, we want you to come and help make our tournament popular in Korea ... but you can't actually get a chance to win $40K, that okay with you two?"
This is just a complete lack of common sense on Blizzard's part. I don't like that Idra, easily the best NA player, was snubbed for this event as well.
Wait, what? I thought Softball was Sen's NA account...but it's actually a different person?
I'm confused...is Sen letting this Jenyu guy play on his stream? I'm positive I've seen a Zerg user using the Softball account. Does Sen have a split personality? =/
For the most part I agree with you. The one match I think will go differently is Dimaga>Maka mainly due to Dimaga's ability to play in the tournament setting.
i wonder why 5 guys listed with clan tag while the others are not, and how the hell they managed to fit this in between the gsl games. no positive feedback from me yet. but maybe we are in for some surprises.
I sort of wish they would weight the invitees based on the skill of the ladders. The 3rd place Korean is probably a lot stronger than most of the 1st place on non-Korean ladders. It would be nice if they could include more players from the stronger ladders so the quality of the games is a bit better.

Every single one of those matchups feature at least one incredible player. By the second round, it'll be all proven and exciting players. This bracket is so much better than could have been hoped for. Seriously some of the best players from all over.
I'm totally excited for this, but 39.95 for a tournament stream? I've bought MLG streams and the GSL packages, but this seems a bit out of hand for a HD/HQ stream.
I'm a huge TLO fan, and think it would be great if he switched to Zerg in the future.
However, I'm confused why he's playing Zerg in Blizzcon. With the GSL going on, how much time does he even have to practice Zerg anymore? I would of much rather preferred to see him go far as Terran .
Oh well, I'll be cheering for you anyways. GL TLO , and gl in tonight's match too!!!

It's weird, not because he's unskilled, but because he is Korean.

Previous years the tournament stream has been free while the rest of Blizzcon (panels, exciting events, etc.) was $40, but we'll see.

SoFtBaLL[Rush] was a BW player from Taiwan, YoiSEn[Rush] was his teammate, It's likely that Softball acquired the account and allows SEn to use it.
Dustin Browder? When was the last game he commentated? Battle report 3? I dont know if I can get excited about that. "Look at those marauders doing TERRIBLE TERRIBLE DAMAGE II just dont understand why the protoss isn't countering them with more zealots."
Wouldn't be surprised if SeleCT and DIMAGA beat their Korean counterparts.
If Maka really goes, he'll probably be spreading some new strain of StarCraft II Korean flu to everyone, which makes them sleep before their games and own up with MM Ghosts and ending the game by nuking their own army.
You got to be kidding me......why would TLO wanna be playing zerg? To prove to blizzard that they are now imba? Also Dimaga for russia? What is this? And yes Select is invited!
is that TLO choosing Z for a tourney? (as in, not T or random?)

he used to play random, before moving into T/Z, and then specifically T; he was slowly getting more disappointing; until now
Why the hell WhiteRa and Dimaga stated as from Russia region, when they are both from Ukraine ? I would be glad, if Ukraine was considered as a Europe country (for example)

he matches will be hosted by a rotating all-star team of shoutcasters including StarCraft II Game Director Dustin Browder, Rob "Voice" Simpson, Sean "Day[9]" Plott, Nick "Tasteless" Plott, and Dan "Artosis" Stemkoski.
they should change the format of who plays in this tournament... i like inviting the top players from each ladder... but they should add like 4 invites for people like boxer/idra/fruitdealer and all the other top players not included
I am willing to guess that Fruit Dealer and Boxer were well taken care of financially in guaranteed money instead of "only if you win" money. Again, just my guess.
I highly doubt it. Blizzard might have paid their travel expenses like they do for all player but they do not pay them to compete. They never pay players to do showmatches. The reason they are not in the tournament to begin with is because they did not qualify for it.

Wow, huge letdown imo. If Blizzard wants to invite players, they should invite everyone, or invite one player per server, and let the other one earn it through qualifying tournaments. They can't do both.
Honestly, how can you take a player like SeceCT, who a) isn't american/canadian and b) got slaughtered by IdrA (a player who is actually american, not Korean, contrary to popular belief). Blizzard should invite players who best represent their game's fanbase, ie players like FruitDealer, IdrA, Boxer, etc. who hold the vast majority of fans of the game. Sure they invited players like TLO, DIMAGA, etc. but they missed players in favor of others who are "meh."

The player list is solid. There are no "meh" players. The ONLY problem is that Idra absolutely deserved a spot over somebody.

as far as i heard, IdrA declined his invite caus he wants to focus on GSL
why both people here and on bnet thinks that Blizzard didn't invite him is beyond me, they know he is a powerhouse, and one of the best players in the world
I'm cool with Blizzard trying to give a chance to ladder players of all regions instead of trying to make this the ultimate tournament. That's what the GSL is for, really.

But on the overall, its all good for an exhibition event. It's like a platinum league of pro-gaming.

TLO and Dimaga "meh" players? I don't think so. Both play not only very entertaining, but also successfull. Dimaga was one of the few zerg players on europe that were able to stood up against he terran force before 1.1.2.
What I'm really curious about is that Taiwan gehts 2 Spots - the same amount as western europe, eastern europe (russia), north and south america. Is it that huge of a gaming community? I mean, china is big and has a lot of players (besides that probaly only 10% of the population has even touched a pc). Korea also no problem with it but Taiwan? Besides: I've never heard of that Softball-guy and SEn hasn't really done anything major in SC2.
Not having Idra there is a bit disapoiting, but he should has hes reasons for it (and I don't it's his manners, they got a lot better since he's in Korea).

Taiwan has a pretty decent e-sports community. Nothing as big as China or Korea, but it exists. Softball may not of had done much (as far as I know), but Sen has some big accomplishments in the beta and has still demonstrated strong play on the ladder. Sen was the most dominant player in Beta. Feel free to look up the results. Although he and Tester and never met in a tournament, Sen was able to beat him on ladder recently and vice versa.
He has quite the ladder wins on the US, KR, and TW server. With wins like 2-0'ing Idra, beating out pretty much every top US Terran, MakaPrime, oGs.Inca, and others that someone else who watches his stream could recall.
I actually kind of prefer that SC1 will not be played. It would just degenerate to a Korean player fighting his computer opponent, and no one would have fun.
This is why blizzard was vague about their criteria for selection...
Basically what they are doing here is trying to give Blizzcon a WCG/World Cup type feel with many regions being represented, sure they've done this before but it seems like they are breaking it up even more now.
Sucks for esports because we don't get to see all the best and brightest players, capoch gets to go because south america needed to fill another slot, but idra doesn't get to go.

I semi-agree.
I mean i dont think these 2 are the best 2 koreans, but i think they are better than you give them credit for, and definately two of the bettER korean players.
But maybe this was intentional by blizzard? maybe bringing Good but not AMAZING korean players will give the foreign scene hope and a reason to keep competing? haha i guess im feeling sort of conspiracy theorist-like.
I mean anyone of the TSL members, or even EVERY TSL member would have made for a great tournament with the top competitors. But i also am kinda...disappointed that Idra won't be there =/.
but i think TSL would crush this tournament easily and that is why they are not the ones competing in it.
also about the original post... am i the only one who said "why" when they read dustin browder and robert "voice" simpson would be commentating?
Imo put Tasteless - Artosis - Day9 on the shoutcasting table and let em run the show. gives me chills just thinking about it
Oh wow, I hope Nick Dan and Sean don't steal all the talking time. I want to hear the banter between the developers on how the game is evolving/progressing.
Pheaver 4 hours, 33 minutes ago Will this be free to watch?
Bashiok 4 hours, 27 minutes ago @Pheaver: The tournament streams will indeed be free to watch. For panel and event coverage, that requires the virtual ticket or DirecTV package.

i have a strong feeling that Dustin and robert are gonna be the "DJwheat" of last year, meaning that they will be the hosts, ask some question in betwen matches to the casters, and then let them do their "magic"
and yes, the thought of Tasteless&Day9 combo with maybe Artosis thrown into the mix...
Blizzard's game viewers suddenly skyrocketed thanks to Boxer (worth millions $$$) and they don't even let him play in the 40k... I assume Boxer will play his showmatch vs Cool for free, but it still very unfair

I'm sure Boxer and Cool are okay with not revealing all their builds while GSL is going on. Besides, I'd think they're being very nicely accommodated.
Boxer has shown and said to do things mostly for his fan base.

He's been on the big stage plenty of times, foolish one.
OT: Great set of players, im totally excited for this. I somewhat doubt the stream will be free though, given the popularity (It has been free earlier but this year the viewer count will probably hit the roof, so why not make a profit out of it)

It is obvious they are right after IdrA won MLG so easily. HuK and SeleCT were no contest.
Not only is it ridiculous not to allow IdrA/Nony/qxc etc... to compete for the NA spots, or Morrow/Socke/Ret etc... to compete for Europe spots; but when you're short of places why do you invite 2 players from Taiwan? Population of Taiwan 23 million = 2 players? Population of Europe 731 million = 2 players?
And then Cool gets to attend but can't compete? Same with Boxer? The whole thing is just unfair and silly.
People need to QUIT WHINING god your a bunch of annoying pricks, And get stoked for all the awesome games that will inevitably come out of this and for the fact that Day9, tastosis are all commenting together.
And to be honest, i can understand as to why Boxer and FD wouldn't want to play (they have GSL going on) but agree'd for a showmatch.
Also, Select plays on the North American Server, and lives in New Jersey (IIRC), so yes he doesn't live in Kr, or play on that server, or participate in Korean leagues, so why would he represent Kr? B/c he is of Korean descent?

Every (Blizzard) region gets 2 spots. It's that easy. And yes, i'm aware of neither White-ra, dimaga nor TLO and other recently playing in their corresponding regional ladder.
Why would a Boxer or Fruitdealer not take a completely free trip to the USA with comped flight and hotel room to play infront of a massive audience of fans?
Even without an appearance fee or exposure for their brand and sponsors and GSL and Korea gaming in general, its an amazing free offer.

Perfect example for the stupid whining going on here.
As already said, 2 invitees per blizzard region. And invites are never "fair" by definition, they are just chosen to the hosts liking. And Blizzards choices are nearly perfect imo, much better than yours.
The only flaws are that Idra is not playing and that there might better Koreans. But we dont know the background of this. Idra maybe declined. And Boxer and Fruit Dealer not participating might have to do with sponsorship stuff or w/e. Maybe they are regarded as a too valuable brand to risk a loss against some non-korean. And the good thing is we will see 4 Koreans playing the way they do it now. I am strongly surprised anyway that we see Koreans that are participating in GSL.

Ever considered that Blizzard isnt making a '1 player per X million humans' situation, and instead is giving each region a chance to compete for honour? And if we go by that rule lets have about 10 chinese players?
Blizzard is a global company, do you really think people in China or Russia are going to care if 70% of the tournament is Euro/NA? Everyone will be tuning in to support their nation, the whole world has a hero to chant for who has a fair chance at fame.
Its a global vision of the world playing a game, not just a 'dream pick' tournament for and by people only interested in their region + korea.

Nobody would be surprised by Demuslim doing good. He is considered by some to be the best European Terran. Although I believe he might have problems with Zerg after the recent changes. His exposure is not that bad either, otherwise he would not have been invited. He just doesnt play all the small 100 euro tournaments, which is understandable.

Although Select rolled over Huk and Kiwikaki, Genius is on a different level. yes he lost in ro64 last season gsl to cheese but I don't think he would make those silly scouting errors again.

Does that have anything to do with GSL and/or you commentating at GSL? Or did they just literally snub you for no reason?

Those who were going to Blizzcon got the GSL matches moved to 1. and 2. day so they could go.
Dont understand why they dident invite IdrA...?
Not all of them on this list is even that high in ladder.
Why hasn't Sen tried to qualify for GSL, that guy is a baller he could make it top 4. I think Idra should of been invited, but with the quality of players and a boxer cool showmatch, you cant be that upset.
Being a Zerg player myself, I am really excited to see TLO playing as Zerg. Best of luck I will be cheering for you!
I checked some of your games where you played as Zerg and I have to admit you have are a very solid Zerg player. Like Husky said, you really put the 'fun' in 'fungal growth'.
Good luck again, and if you read this : I hope you get to switch to Zerg eventually... (a man can always hope!)

SeleCt and HuK have consistently been top 2 or so on the NA ladder for weeks now. Past six weeks SeleCT has been 1,1,1,2,3,1. HuK has been 3,7,2,1,1,3. Blizzard has said repeatedly that NA was going to be done by invite based on ladder position. Idra was in the top 200 for the first time in 6 weeks yesterday.

But he's not playing in NA or has been for quite some time now.
Select was chosen for him being awesome, but also sitting at the top of the NA ladder for like ages (or roaming in the general area of the top) Huk was chosen for being awesome with fans, but he is also hugging the top spots of the NA ladder, being a protoss and winning raleigh certainly didn't hurt either. (currently 3rd)
Boxer I'm fairly certain is making fairly well for himself, and on top of the full boat trip to NA, I wouldn't be surprised if both him and fruitdealer are being paid more than 40k for that showmatch.
I can go down the list of players on the selection, but I'm fairly certain most were selected for both how good they are, but also because they have a solid spot on the various top 200s.
For those wondering i'm all 100% certain there will be a free stream for the games, because there was one last year and all the previous years. They want to promote e-sports and it'd be pretty stupid of them not to include a free stream.
i think boxer is going to lose against the "Fruit", he lost against idra last time they played so he's weak against zerg. still it's going to be fun to watch such a great much, even though boxer is losing, im still voting for Boxer, he's the starcraft man. Go Go BoxeR! U owNZ that fRUit!

awesome line up and i totally get why Idra would have turned down an invite. He wants to win GSL and is focused soley on that....
Not to mention, you can't really have him represent the NA server over Select (who is american even if he is of korean origin) or whomever who play on the NA servers every day and win tourneys all the time. Idra's been playing in korea since before SC2 came out and i rarely (if ever) see him playing in the small weekly tourneys, only the big ones with big money on the line..... to most people they only really see him play at MLG/GSL and replays.... where as select, dimaga, demuslim etc we see all the time.
Being a big name shouldn't mean you get given special treatment based soley on that fact, there are people who do far more for esports as a whole than Idra, they play week in and week out for our pleasure and just to keep afloat moneywise, instead of a few times a month when there is big money on the line. Plus, could you imagine how it would look for SC2 if Idra started BMing at blizzcon? We SC2ites are used to it, we know its just part of his game and personality.... those who might just be watching because its there to watch would think badly of our community i think.

lol idra just replied saying that he wasn't invited. I think they should have take out luffy and softball give the 2 extra spot to na and eu server one extra. Since they got more pros. Overall, the lineup is pretty solid other then softball which i think is the weakest there. probably will get knock out without winning any match.
lol, a lot of ppl on the latin american server have been laddering pretty bad just to get the chance to go to the blizzcon, and blizzard decides that there will be no latin american qualifiers. they said they were gonna do a tournament to decide who was going, that's pretty much the only reason why latin american players haven't migrated to the US server, and then they just send Fenix and Capoch, who barely play on the LA server.

I think it is lame that Idra, not even arguably, but actually the best non-korean SC2 gamer at this time was not invited to participate at Blizzcon. We have so many names on this list that are just going to get trampled by the top 5 competitors in this tournament who are leagues above them.
This isn't WCG, this is Blizzcon.
also: do you people really believe fruitdealer and slayersboxer would come to blizzcon and play for free? while they would be other-wise practising for the GSL ? NO WAY. i would bet my left foot that they are getting paid to come and put on this show-match.
I just dont understand why they say "well invite 2 legends to compete in a showmatch...cause we dont want them to roll through our tournament". IMO this is the only reasoning for not inviting Fruitdealer to play IN the tournament.
the Korean qualification was long before GSL 1 finished (maybe even before it started, don't quite remember), so how would they be able to squeeze them both in without a) stealing spots from other regions or b) telling maka and genius that they won the qualification tournament but that doesn't matter anymore and Fruitdealer and Boxer are playing instead.

RedArchon and iceiceice were some of the few that actually qualified. They play in a lot of SEA events (including the nation war league) so if you search SEA in TL I'm sure the reps are available.
On an unrelated note, they clearly should have named the "Russia" region CIS (Commonwealth of Independent States) which refers to all of the former USSR republics. I'm sure they're getting bombarded with angry Ukrainian e-mails. To clarify, there's no way White-ra and DIMAGA play on the Russian server, there is fewer people on that server than any other server so it makes no sense. However, they do live within the boundaries of that region (as defined by Blizzard) and so, they were invited.
I'm really confused seeing so many posts of people complaining about Idra's absence... Sure it's a bit disappointing since he's an incredible player and fun to watch, but we need to consider the fact that there was a 2 players cap per region. HuK and SeleCT are both excellent picks, as their ladder and tournaments results prove. I personally can't see any reason to complain about this selection and I'm sure they will represent us great.
In any case, I can't wait to see these matches! I hope the free stream will be watchable and casting every match...

One of the problems is that there was no transparency from blizzard about what cutoff date or exact criteria they would be using for their selections.
Ya I highly doubt blizz won't compensate cool and boxer they get Togo for free guaranteed I bet they won't pay airfare and there probably paid a flat fee for the show match this is America nothing is free
Idra has a game Thursday in Korea it would probably be a very long three days for him if he did play gsl r64 blizzcon then back for r32 assuming all goes well in gsl for him. I kno artosis tasteless and TLO are leaving after today/tmrws game (time difference) for blizzcon

It seems Blizzard asked every regions Esports manager (or whoer does it) to handle X spots. The NA guy decided to do it by ladder, Korea through qualifications, Europe by invites, I think.

Ah yes this actualy makes sense, thanks. (unlike all the other explanations I might add)
All in all it's actually a really good lineup, from memory all Blizzcon invites have always been slightly odd. Although I still can't help but feel gutted for the people that were overlooked or not given a fair shot to qualify.
The label Russian applies to the name which Blizzard assigned that specific server region. Agh, I don't even know what to say about all of the whining.
Beyond that, Nazgul's post clarified the how quite a lot. The Korean server, yes SERVER, not nation, hosting a tournament and TLO not laddering heavily with NA using top ladder players really boggled my mind. Thanks for the clarification.

Q: Dimaga and White-Ra aren't from Russia, wtfomg!? A: Blizzard employs humans, humans make mistakes. Why is this such a big deal...
Q: BoxeR and FruitDealer not allowed to play in the tournament? WHY!? A: They didn't QUALIFY. MakaPrime and NEXGenius placed at the top of the Korean Qualifier long before GSL Season 1 concluded.
Q: $40 to watch the stream? Fuck Blizzard!! Moneygrabbing fuckers!!! A: The opening ceremony and tournament streams are FREE. The paid ticket allows you to watch the rest of the Blizzcon events, panels, etc. Just like every other Blizzcon.
Q: SeleCT isn't even American! He's Korean!? Why is he representing America!! A: This isn't WCG, people aren't representing their nations. The regions listed are simply to identify which ladder the participant qualified from.
Hope that helps. Can't wait to see Blizzcon this year.
This really should be edited into the OP.
Agreed.
It should also be noted for Question2 that Blizzard's site lists it as "Regions" and not countries. The countries are listed correctly, see here: http://eu.battle.net/sc2/en/blog/811946#blog

No it shouldn't. Almost every point fails. 1. IdrA wasn't invited but TLO was despite not laddering in Europe. They made exceptions. 2. Humans make mistakes? A quick google tells you where White-Ra is from. 3. They didn't qualify, but then neither did TLO etc... 4. fine 5. Huk is representing America despite being Canadian too (although Select is American by nationality). Still the tournament is in NA they could've thrown one more for North America considering how huge a Starcraft scene there is there. A Nony/qxc/IdrA would have made sense.
Try as you might you can't justify 2 players from Taiwan. Fine Taiwan has its own Blizzard "region" but that's still silly.
I'm not having a massive go at Blizzard. This is actually a pretty sweet invite list. But the point of this thread is to discuss invites and that's what we are doing. It could've been fairer that's for sure.
Add Nazgul to the OP. He explains it better:

I...who..........what? You've confused me. TLO is going to play Zerg? ..............congrats you've killed my brain more effectively than yesterday's drinking session managed.

Someone please enlighten me. They picked 2 players from each region based on MMR? There was no top 16 qualifer (perhaps I misunderstood but I was under the impression there would be)? How does TLO get to go based on MMR when he's not that highly ranked on Europe? Seems like they just picked their favorite players, imo.

White-Ra has way more natural talent than most of these kids, not to mention experience. You're OMG LITERALLY clueless i mean for serius.

hes playing against SEN<----beastly zerg not as a zerg

Fixed. But seriously, I can't wait to see TLO fight as Zerg! Unfortunately as he said in his interview, he plays Sen first. But honestly, I think Zerg is TLOs race...so unorthodox, so unexpected, so TLO.

He is also, without a doubt, the most immature player from the US, it's a shame really...so it's a good thing he won't be representing the entire continent with his forced imba whining and poor sportsmanship. This will be a lame tournament without the best players in the world.
I agree.
The best player in the world? big statement i think most of the players on this list can beat idra with any doubt.
I'm really rooting for TLO here. I've been feeling bad for him since his early boot in the GSL. I just hope he doesn't race switch against Sen, or, against anyone really.... It seems like a huge prize pool.
Should be fun. Can't wait to see the Day[9] and Dustin Browder combo. Hilarious!
Tasteless! You said you would sign babies but you can't bring babies to Blizzcon, I checked, we have to leave her at home, nobody under 5 admitted. We'll come say hi anyways.
Can't wait for Boxer vs Cool.
As for the main tournament, skill level is pretty competitive. It's anyone's tournament! It's going to be hard to see anything else at the event with all this ownage happening on the RTS stage.

He announced himself as Zerg, so I doubt they will let him play Terran.
Our source from Blizzard has informed us racepicking is allowed so he would be able to switch around as much as he wants to. As it should be imo. It's a skill to know multiple races.

Good, because honestly you should probably tell him not to ZvZ vs Sen.
On October 19 2010 14:08 KiLL_ORdeR wrote: Wow, huge letdown imo.
The ONLY problem is that Idra absolutely deserved a spot over somebody.
as far as i heard, IdrA declined his invite caus he wants to focus on GSL
why both people here and on bnet thinks that Blizzard didn't invite him is beyond me, they know he is a powerhouse, and one of the best players in the world
i was not invited
Does that have anything to do with GSL and/or you commentating at GSL? Or did they just literally snub you for no reason?
as far as i know they just didnt invite me because i dont play the american ladder

PLZ PLZ read and think before you post! Don't post retard crap without any knowledge!
It sais on the blizzcon page that limited content in standard defention with tournaments is free. I'm not really sure if they mean they will show all the matches for free, or just some. And if you want HD you need a ticket obviously. If they actually didn't invite Idra on ladder basis, they probably didn't invite Idra because of wanting to avoid potential balance critisism in front of thousands of potential buyers;) In terms of skill, and american potential for winning, he is the only viable representative. No american is on that level imo. The latest tournaments has really shown his consolidation of korean level- control in all aspects of the game.
The stream appears to be live- and the opening ceremony is on the main stage... I didn't pay for anything, but I can see it just fine... Right now it's Chris Metzen talking about words.
well I paid and so far they bowl over their time schedule
lol the moment the free stream goes off the next thing they talk about is WOW Movie and SC Ghost xd
This has to be a running gag or something again Technical Problem with SC2 at Blizzcon Match not shown now upcoming match 2. Heard Artosis voice so that is something atleast.
well not much shown then huh i bought blizzcon for the other stages aswell but RTS Stage coverage is horrible anyway first the WC3 match takes nearly 1.30h then they do not show anything for a while whole day 2 matches were shown.
