This is very close to my rig, except my phenom II is x4 and my mobo is asus. Its a pretty sweet system and performs at max settings on nearly every game out smoothly, and I haven't even overclocked at all. All I have to say is good luck with your build :D.

OS: Windows XP CPU: Athlon 64 3000+ @2.14GHz RAM: 1GB(512x2) GPU:Radeon x800GTFO Res: 1680x1050 Low detail Computer has serious issues at times because the CPU is so old and slow. I'm always the last one to load in every game and suffer from stutters/mini freezes every game as it seems to be loading stuff as I play. Will be upgrading in a few weeks to: OS: Windows 7 CPU: Athlon II x3 435 RAM: 2GB DDR3@1600 GPU: Radeon HD 5750 Res: 1680x1050 Ultra detail Looking forward to this like nothing else. I'll finally be able to play SC2 with everything maxed out, as well as loads of other new games.

It's sort of hard to upgrade those "ye olde style" systems all that much. You have enough RAM, but your CPU and GPU needs to be upgraded for medium or better quality. The GPU is easy enough, a geForce 240 or 260 will do the trick. And then a dual or quad core-2 CPU (that's the best you can do using socket 775). Both the GPU and CPU is in the $100 range.

i7 920 @ 3.0 GHz Gigabyte GA-EX58-EXTREME geForce GTX 295 3x2GB Corsair TWIN3X 1333MHz DDR3 Thermaltake Toughpower 1200W Seagate Barracuda 7200.11 1.5TB (and rather a lot of network attached storage. But for some reason I cannot install SC2 on that "drive", it's much faster, though) This 1.5 year old setup (well, the gfx card is from last summer) happily runs SC2 in 2560x1600 with everything except shaders set to the highest setting (the shaders are set to the second-to-last highest value. The framerate really drops with dynamic ambient occlusion enabled...)

Their cpu is the same and ram the gpu 360m vs 5850m is about the same with the 5850 being newer and slighly better So for the same price you can get a smaller lighter, very similar performing laptop with a better screen resolution. Under sc2 i think you could probably manage high settings with the laptop. laptop cpus are nothing like their big desktop brothers but i think you'll manage high pretty well if not some settings on ultra. I've also been meaning to ask, will the PC version of the game (which is all I can find to preorder) come install and run on mac? I cannae seem to find any mac versions of the game. Cheers for clarity on this one.

any mac user out there with the same setup running sc2 with ok results on lowest graphic settings? dont mind the looks of game at all, but is it possible to manage enough fps during battle etc etc? (I know its within the min. req but my major concern is if its even able to handle mass units counts) I've got a 20' iMac (5,1) Intel Core 2 Duo @ 2.16 GHz 4 GB RAM ATI Radeon X1600 128mb
