Ram: 4 GB DDR2

I know its a laptop and not a very powerful one (I was on a budget, got it for around 650 plus tax)
I don't really play too many games so I thought I didn't need a powerful machine
Any ideas?

The CPU is probably just enough (dual core, but only 2GHz), but the GPU... I'd say you have a 50/50 chance at running SC2 on the lowest settings. From what I know, it seems the 8500GT is the lowest-performance card you want to be sure you can run it at the lowest settings at 1280x1024 and below. The 9300M is considerably worse, though. Sorry.

Ah I see
Thanks for the help
too bad my desktop computer is worse than my laptop :/

I guess I would have to wait to see when it actually comes out to buy the game

I think I should easily run SC2 on max settings. I get 50+ FPS at 1680x1050 with max settings in TF2 and L4D.

an 8800gt should run sc2 near max no problem, as for your brothers 8800gts, there are 3 models, a 320MB 512MB and 640MB.

the 8800gt is quite a bit faster than the 320/640MB models, but its a tad slower than the 512

I'm pretty sure I'll be able to run it at least medium settings.. Hopefully I'm not wrong b/c I'm planning on buying a laptop before I upgrade this one again.

You should easily be able to max the game out, people who think they will need a gtx 285 just to do so are idiots. Believe me, a 9600GT can get good frames on high on crysis, so i seriously doubt it will have trouble running Starcraft.

I'm not so sure about the 9600gt being able to run Starcraft 2 at high. What resolution do you usually play at?

If I had to guesstimate you would probably be able to do anywhere from low to medium at a standard resolution of 1680-1050.

Thanks for the response, I mixed them up and I actually have the 8800gts 640MB.

So chances are, I won't have my new computer in time for beta.

Will my current one be able to run it?

OS: Vista Home Premium

Hopefully I can run it on low?

we should all keep in mind that they have been developing sc2 for god knows how many years. I think its safe to say that if your compy is younger than 3 years you have a pretty good shot at being able to play.
yes.

I built the case from scratch myself out of 2'x2' acrylic panels and 6' angle steel stock.

Had to cut the angle steel, miter it, drill holes in the angle steel and the acrylic with holes that line up, drill holes using a hole saw for the fans, cut holes using an angle grinder for the back I/O area and the CD drive etc.

I think I made a blog post about it a while back. It's my baby, I love it.

Also in those pictures I didn't have the front or top panels on.... I was still working on it at the time. looks way cooler closed up!

What kind of engine you got in that thing? WOW! thats like triple liquid cooling with 20 fans, an air conditioning machine and a computer both in one. Heck you probably have freon running in the tubes lol!

Well the internal parts (by that I mean like the computer parts like the mobo/cpu etc) were bought like 2 years ago in a normal case, then I built the case and water cooling last year, and just recently I bought new hardware for the cpu/mobo/gpu/ram, which will be an i7 950, asus striker II, bfg gtx295 WCOCWBE (lol)

I still can't get over how crazy your comp is.

Do you guys think I'll be able to run SC2 smoothly on the lowest settings with this set-up?

Hmm, well the dual core should see you through the gameplay just fine as there supposedly aren't going to be game altering physics in the engine, and the RAM is probably a little low but i think it may be fine, although if you could another 1gb would NOT hurt.

I really don't think the FX 5700 will even get close to running any modern games, might want to go with a cheap 512mb card, although maybe you'll get lucky and be able to run SC 2. No promises. My advice is just to buy a new (3-400 USD, easily) computer, because upgrading yours would be far too much hassle.

Hmm, okay. I'm kind of broke right now since I just spent most of my money on a beta key through ebay. Hopefully I'll be able to save up enough before the beta's release.

Where do you guys recommend buying from? Any particular brands that are reputable for gaming and not overpriced?

Upgrading RAM is something I'd be able to do easily (I think, lol). I guess my main consern is although I've upgraded some parts on my machine over the years, its still around 5 years old.

Well, if i were you i would definately upgrade the RAM because RAM is crazy cheap, and you've obviously got a PCI-E slot, so go with a 90-100 USD video card. $150 will probably stretch you out another couple years without games running too slowly, but a cpu upgrade is definately in order.
