Built this a few months back:
AMD Phenom II X3 720 @ 3.6 GHz OC Windows Vista Ultimate 64bit Sapphire 4870 HD 512 MB 4 GB DDR3 RAM Asus AM3 790 GX 640 GB HDD 7200RPM
All under 1k, though it's considerably cheaper now >> I'm pretty sure it can play SC2 and Diablo 3 of all things, knowing how lenient Blizzard is with their requirements =/

thx to scholarship i got ...
my budget is like 1500 dollars...
Should I get core i7 or core 2 quad?
What size monitor should i get?
|
If you are going to use all 1.5k you can get a pretty damned good i7 rig made, I went with an i7 for my ~1.3k build.
As for monitor size, go check the monitor upgrade thread, since I watch a good amount of things on the comp and stuff I eventually just settled with a 23.6" Asus when I saw one on sale.

i bet it is almost an overkill

Man!!!! I can't believe your gonna spend 14 g's on a pc!!!!
Totally absurd.

I am rooting for OCZ insofar as SSD goes, Indilinx if works as advertised sounds like pure goodness.
That really reads "I wish I had 14k to blow on a machine, let me mock the hard drive to feel a bit better about myself"

Or you could get a Tesla Supercomputer for $8,000 that can run Crysis: Warhead at over 300 FPS @ 1920 x 1200 with full AA and max settings. Better than the 50 average FPS you'd see with this system.

Benchmarks with 295 tends to exceed that by a good amount even without a monster support. That said, the price is really marked up heh.

I still think the rest of the components this build has over the test will push it over that low estimate, but yeah, if I have alternative means I would not want to bother with that heavily marked up one.

Intel dual core 2.66ghz 2gb ddr2 pc 4200 ram Nvidia geforce 7950oc
?_?. My computer can only be expanded to 2gb ram unfortunately. Will this be good enough to run sc2 on low-medium setting? I don't care if it doesn't look like a pretty pony carousal or whatever, just need a good enough frame rate so that my mouse and keyboard commands are precise and no difficult.
|
I'll save you $4000 if you let me make the same system for you. I will include no extra charge for a water cooling system. I will also buy starcraft 2 for you (all 3 expansions) and I will ship it for you personally. I mean I will actually get on a plane to Australia and make sure no UPS man plays football with it. Let me know of a good 5 star hotel in Australia to stay for 5 days as well.

The 7950 is an okay card, and 2gb is fine as long as you're running 32 bit xp or windows 7. Expect to play on mid settings or so, although you should probably get a new computer sometime in the next few years because you'll start to feel outdated pretty soon.

I wouldn't buy a core2quad right now, unless your current mobo supports one. You can get a phenom II x4 + mobo cheaper, and they offer similar performance. also the core I5's are coming out soon, supposed to have a sub $200 model, and will probably be quite a bit faster than either phII or C2Q.
If you can afford an i7, then its the best chip on the market so go for it.
|
lol you could build your own with those same specs a hell of a lot cheaper then that.
|
You guys forget I'm in Australia, we pay a lot more for pc parts than the rest of you folks do
Not to mention it was a joke anyway, hehehe. I wish I had 14k to blow like that
