e8400 3.0 GHz 2 GB PC2-6400 500 GB 3.0 SATA ATi 2600XT.
A real middle-of-the-road system. I expect to be able to run on all high settings with full ASF except no AA @ 1440x900 (native res).
I don't agree with the OP regarding the hard drive requirements. The maps are pre-loaded into RAM so hard drive access time is moot.
I am planning on upgrading to an i7 using eBay/Amazon. I built my current system off there for $250 about 2 years ago.

What monitor size would you guys recommend?

I7 6 gigs of ram 8800GTS
Spot the one that's out of place.
I took parts from my old computer (HDD, optical drive, video card) so that's why.

From my experiences with playing BW on a 24" widescreen, I believe it's actually better to have a somewhat smaller screen. 19" standard would probably be perfect. The reason why I say this is because I used to run BW in full screen on this screen, and the minimap/resources were so far away it was out of my peripheral vision.

I just put up a blog about my newly costumized comp with pics in the blog section. You guys should go there and give me an opinion.

I don't understand why so many people like the 4850 - it just doesn't seem cost effective considering it isn't that much under the 4870 or gtx260
according to www.newegg.com
4850=$119.99 4870=$149.99 2gb 4870 (therefore theoretically superior to xfire 4850 =$199.99
So i don't see why you would buy the 4850.
|
From what I have read of the 2gb 4870, the improvement is marginal at best and hardly worth the price increase. To be honest, if I wanted to go on a strict budget that a 4850 suggests, I'd use a 4770.
Nexus, what the heck, might as well as use a 975 at that point. A drop in the bucket when we consider the tag of the whole thing.

To be honest, Ecael, I should just buy a Tesla Personal Supercomputer. It's not much more for an amazing increase in performance.

Save your money: Use fans. Liquid cooling is more prone to problems, is almost always just as loud as fans, and, well... costs more money.

It actually has nothing to do with Starcraft 2 because I know it'll run it, but I ordered the following system:
2x Seagate Barracuda 7200.10 250GB in RAID0 for OS/Programs/Games Seagate Barracuda 7200.12 750GB for Data Intel Core 2 Quad Q9550 (C1), 4x 2.83GHz Corsair XMS3 DIMM Kit 4GB (DDR3-1333) Sapphire Vapor-X Radeon HD 4870, 1024MB GDDR5 Powerded by a Corsair TX 650W ATX 2.2 in a sound dampened NZXT HU-001-B case
Hope it'll last for 4-5 years with only minor upgrades like a graphics card or more RAM.

Sorry if i'm going off topic:
I know that assembling your own computer saves a lot of $$$, but for someone like me who doesn't have a clue about assembly (and I don't really want to learn atm) are there any suggestions to any good deals on pre-built computers that will run SC2 well? I live in Toronto and I've heard good things about Canada Computers and tigerdirect.

I don't think i've ever seen someone misspell so many things that are that simple to spell. However yes you should be fine to run SC2.

And you don't even need to install OSX.

Sounds great. 9800M= very good for a laptop. Expect no trouble playing SC2 or Diablo 3, but maxed settings may be beyond your reach depending on whether or not they include AA.
