If you use a router, the Firewall really messes up connections with b.net. Usually exiting b.net, reconnecting, and then INSTANTLY joining the game helps alot. but your problem seems a lot bigger than the ones i had, and i'm no network pro so this is just my 2 cents.

Ive read this and i am still confuse. Some please hit me to make me smarter =-b i just bought the same router as relapse befsr41. I hooked it up to my dsl modem then ran a seperate wire for my sons comp. Im on winxp he is on win98se. We dont have a problem joining other games but do have lat / lag issuses joining games together. Except last night we were able to play each other. I dont have dmz enabled and he does have a seperate isp number assigned through the router. I've verified this through the setup program listing for the clients on this router. we have seperate isp numbers through the router. also the firewall is disabled as far as i can tell. although im not sure if this model has a built in firewall. when i bought it i tried to make sure it didnt. I believe the firewall is model befrsx41. as for port settings. what the heck is that only thing i know about ports is ships go there and some of the wine tastes ok. =-b If someone can explain a new meaning and how to change it, i'd be grateful. did i mention that an important fact to owning a computer is to never never ever ever (did i say never ever?) use a Shop-Vac to suck out the dust inside. computer bios chips do not like that!!

Here's what i did, I pissed it the computer for increased cpu cooling! Nah, below is a set by step process of what i did to make mine work. 1.) logon / open the http site for the router, added the pass and got into the Setup. 2.) click Advanced tab, then clicked Forwarding tab. (there you will see where you need to add the open port settings 27960 & 6112) 3.) Click on Customized Application and add a name for each line. I named mine Starcraft for me and Brian for my son's computer. so the first line looked like this a. Customized Application "Starcraft" (you can name it whatever you want "bills bar& grill", if it'll fit) b. Ext.Port (here you add the ports) 27960 to 27960 (you're giving it a range to open the port) c. Place a check in each box for protocols "TCP & UDP" d. Ip address (here you change the last 3 digits for your isp) (my last 3 are 100 brian's 101 so it looks like xxx.xxx.x.100 or 101) e. Click enable box a. Customized Application "Starcraft" b. Ext.Port (here you add the ports) 6112 to 6112 c. Place a check in each box for protocols "TCP & UDP" d. Ip address (here you change the last 3 digits for your isp) e. Click enable box I repeated this for each line item for a total of four line items. a. Customized Application "Brian's" b. Ext.Port (here you add the ports) 27960 to 27960 c. Place a check in each box for protocols "TCP & UDP" d. Ip address (here you change the last 3 digits for your isp) e. Click enable box a. Customized Application "Brian's" b. Ext.Port (here you add the ports) 6112 to 6112 c. Place a check in each box for protocols "TCP & UDP" d. Ip address (here you change the last 3 digits for your isp) e. Click enable box Two lines for me (meaning ports opened 27960 to 27960 and again for 6112 to 6112 for my computer with my isp (last digit 100) and again for Brian's comp... Two lines for Brian (meaning ports opened 27960 to 27960 and again for 6112 to 6112 for my computer with my isp (last digit 101) 4.) Click "Enable" for each line item and Click "Apply" to make the changes. Exit the http page and you're done hope this made sense and helps someone else

I use a router(netgear) and it works fine without having to forward ports to my computer. If yours doesn't work and you can't get it to work then get a new one and return the new one if it doesn't work.
