Remember that bizarre case where a guy posing as police officer calls a McDonald's and talks a female manager into taking one of her teenage staff into a back room and stripping her, then calling her (the manager's) fiance to come in and guard the naked teen, then convinces the fiance to humiliate, spank, and sexually abuse her?
Go go jury trial. There's nothing 12 random nobodies love better than a chance to make one of their kind rich by digging in a deep pocket. + Show Spoiler +
She asked for $200 million.
I'm still trying to work out whether she's gullible, spineless, or a Machiavellian genius.
There is a sense of responsibility that an overarching entity such as a corporation or nation has over its entire domain, including many areas to which personal attention is impossible to provide, which the majority of individuals will never understand. And since it's not understood, these people fallaciously put the situation in terms which they can understand and then are outraged by the unfair results.

don't even start that.
there is no way a person could be that dumb, that manager is lying about something. it can't have been a case of thinking this was the lawful thing to do.

You need to meet more people.
It's things that amaze me, seriously what the hell can people be thinking. But then again if you see a cop arresting a guy or chasing a guy. The first thing that comes to people's mind is cop = good, other person = bad. This is similar to the incident where a person beat someone to death in broad day light and people just stood their and watched. It's proven that the more people at the scene of the incident the more they are inclined to think that someone else will take care of it or call the police. I know this was an isolated incident, but the chain of events is similar, those above you have more power and can't be wrong/ you must listen to them, the girl listened to her manager, and the manager listened to the "cop". No one thought to question them, why I'm not sure.

Actually upon further reading about this, it seems that there are plenty more of similar cases.
But sometimes these sort of things turn out to be con jobs to blackmail big company into rich settlement to keep it quiet. I'm sure this one was real, con artists definitely don't want to go through court. There was an incident few years back where these 3 people staged a rape in a Disney hotel. Disney was going to pay, but one of the group turned them in when he thought the other 2 where going to kill him.
I would've wanted her to receive some compensation, like I dunno, $10,000 and free counseling and other services if she needs them. But $6 million? If you think about it, that's ludicrous. Even if you had a job that paid $100,000 per year, you'd have to work 60 years to earn that much money. So she gets abused for 3 hours and now she doesn't have to work another day in her life? What about all those girls from abusive homes who have been (sexually) abused far more than her but receive absolutely nothing in compensation?
At first, I felt bad for her from the video, but now I'm just disgusted.
There is some good news in the article, at least:
A former assistant manager, Donna Summers, was placed on probation for a misdemeanor conviction in relation to the incident. Her former fiance, Walter Nix Jr., is serving five years in prison for sexually abusing Ogborn during the 3 1/2 -hour search.
Anyone think it is strange that there is actually a video of this happening available? Usually, when somebody gets owned like this the events are reported in general terms. Even when they are described in detail, the person's identity is kept hidden. Here we get to see a censored video of her getting spanked and giving a blowjob and then we get to see her real face telling us about how she felt doing it.
Yep, girl is probably the priciest whore in the whole world - good for her I guess. "Suck that dick for $6.1M, you go girl"! She's actually good looking too, so if she ever runs out of this money (impossible, if she has at least half a brain she can live off the interest for the rest of her life) she can surely find some other customers.
Seriously, that was THE luckiest day in her life.
The guy serves 5 years in prison - that seems about right at least.
What's also horrible about this is the number of people who are saying how the girl made out pretty good. 6 million dollars compensation is acceptable for what happened? There's a big difference between offering to get raped for 3 hours knowing full well you'll earn 6 million dollars for it, and spontaneously going through it, especially under such disillusioning circumstances.

hey, don't you fucking question the fuel that runs the world economy!

Please explain why this incident should earn her more money than the majority of the population will ever make in their lives, despite the decades of hard work they will have to endure.
I should add that if she gives 95% or more of it away to people who actually need that money, then I would have nothing against her as a person (in fact I can't really judge her now, not knowing what she's going to do with the money, and not knowing if she was talked into this by her family/friends/lawyers). But that wouldn't change my view that $6 million is far too much compensation for what happened.
Note: if anyone wants to continue this discussion, then feel free to create a new, discussion-oriented topic for it. (The closing of this topic was discussed on Mount Olympus and in the end we decided it could be re-created with a focus on discussion. Sexual abuse can be a sensitive issue for some people so joking about it is not a good idea.)
EVERYONE IN THAT VIDEO EXCEPT THE 58 YEAR OLD NEEDS TO BE FUCKING SHOT. EDIT: oops, didn't realize this had already been closed.
But still, how can people be this retarded and not like, choke on their breakfast or die crossing the road or.. anything. Ok, yeah, the girl has an excuse - she's a kid but.. I'm pretty god damn sure I wouldn't have let some random "grown up" stripsearch me at any age.
Didn't Hot_Bid already explain this (I believe in another McDonald's thread). It's not that she deserves $6M, but that a few thousand won't matter to a corporation like McDonalds, so they have to skew the award so that it matters to them.

Exactly. It's to penalize the company, not compensate her.
