Early questing is massive fun in classic when servers are overpopulated, I remember that quite well. I don't think many people will be able to stomach that nowadays.

Isn't that why Blizzard is using layering early on in Classic? To spread people out in multiple instances of the same zone to prevent horrible overcrowding?

I don't know anything about what they do nowadays, I was speaking about how it used to be in "real" WoW Classic. They better do something tho, having 20 people try to do one quest is pretty horrible.

I do think that they may have seriously underestimated the population. ~90% of english speaking EU realms are BFA.

I found a guild that's not awful btw! 2-day, nice people, around world 800.

After looking at some stuff, it looks way worse than i thought even this morning. An enormous fraction of EU players will be only two realms, the English-PVP realms. Eventual simultaneous login caps of 3000 per server, so 6000 total (more with layering)

There's already 12k EU players that replied to the poll on this subreddit's census form in the last 10 days alone of which 80% (of all replies) indicated wanting to play on a PvP server.

Ten thousand strong from a relatively niche forum.

It's hard to know how many people there are - some anecdotes from yesterday say that test realms were full with many (double digit) layers, plus 15,000 people in the queue each.

Not a single of my 30 friends that are going to roll together was on the stress test. There are probably A LOT more people than they expect.

When i was advocating to have like a pvp and pve realm for french, german and all i was not thinking for a second that there would be less than 6 PVP realms for the rest of EU as well!

Yeah the waycrest emissary was there the first time this rotation of emissaries was around. Another instance of something through the floor causing issues (it also can melee through the floor as well).

Very weird they they buff Shamans (which was needed), but don't touch disc/hpal still. Because doing 10k dps + highest hps by a mile + massive DR cds is clearly not over powered compared to the lower healers that basically only can heal.

Rdruid is overwhelmingly popular with 58% of mid-high keys (m15+) using them while excellent and accomplished disc players are shunned.

With the shaman buffs bringing them up to solid choices in all content it looks like MW will be the dead spec for a while

"Guilds that agree not to be toxic", first one on the list is "Autismo" LOL. Toxic AF and not even allowed under the naming policy.

With the narrow server selection (almost everyone wanting to play on 2 servers EU and 5 NA) there's a lot of conflict about who is going to play where and different groups "claiming" servers.

If you're on NA Eastern time PVE, it seems like Pagle is the only choice as Mankrik has been dubbed the meme server.

Most of me and my friends are going on Mankirk. I don't really get the dub of a meme server. In context of an actual server, what does that even mean. Like we will have some guilds that do stupid things? Doesn't seem like an issue.

I don't think sharding is necessary at all. I saw hundreds and hundreds of people at Nortshire Abbey and if you camp a mob spawn point or 5, it's not much slower than normal. I had so much damn fun.

Just confirms that I will never go back to retail.

I don't think its so much that sharding/layering is needed for launch, its gonna be completely full either way. The problem that blizzard is trying to solve is the huge change in population between the first couple weeks and everything after. If they make enough servers to hold the number of people who will show up at the beginning, they think most of them will be empty in a month or two. Then they have to do server merges and it looks really bad for them. Instead they chose the number of servers based on what they think the population will end up being and use layering to make a number of pseudo-servers within each server for the beginning, which they can later merge together without it looking bad by taking out layering (or merging layers without even having to tell anyone).

Yeah i think that is the biggest thing. Merging/closing servers looks REALLY bad on headlines even if it's a legit reality.

The thing that i'm most concerned about is just the lack of capacity for P2 though - they're set up to allow for 6k simultaneous players on EU PVP phase 2 and i can easily see participation being several times that.

I played the test realm for a couple of hours. Decided its not for me. The only value is in the experience and Ive had my fill of it as a teenager who had alot of time on his hands to do a whole lot of nothing till the game actually started.

I might dabble if my friends convince me to play when the hype dies down or the retail content slows down.
Godspeed to those who enjoy it though. I hope its a success.

I legit will be playing only in times of boredom from other things. A lot of my current guildies never played in vanilla so it will be fun to play with them with stuff they never did, but beyond that I am very aware of what classic is and understand the difference between that and retail.
