Euromaidan brought the country on the brink of a civil war. This thread is called the Euromaidan thread because everything happening now in the Ukraine is a direct result of the actions of Euromaidan and the collapse of civil society it brought with it.

Oh there you are, we missed you when we were looking at the "assets" of Yanukovich, you were awfully silent there. How come? Makes it look like as if you kinda pretty much know that you're wrong when you say "everything thats happening now is the result of EuroMaidan", especially considering that a "president" like this would be crucified in pretty much any decent country. Germany just did it with a bishop.

Not quite sure what you are talking about. Euromaiden is over, the country is in ruins, there isn't really that much to talk about. Sure Yanukovych is a dick, there were many democratic ways to take down a democratically elected president. Giving free reign to a bunch of radicals and turning the country into a scene from Mad Max is not one of them. At the end of the day one group of people imposed their rule over another group of people, that other group of people is now trying to take their freedom back. If the country does break up it is the direct result of the first group of people trying to undemocratically impose their rule in the first place. Simple as that.

Hell, Fulgencio Batista was a dick, corrupt as hell. I'm sure many Cubans didn't like the Fidel Castro that came after him.

Good job Russia! You managed to bring a peacefull country on a brink of a civil war.

Nope, basically Ukraine did this by themselves ! Or maybe you can blame Yanukovich. Because he tried to play "both sides" (EU-Russia) and when he said "no" to Europe/EU (he actually never said "yes" to Russia...) protests started.
And that Russia is not just watching, when their Black Ocean station/fleet is in "danger" to be in a NATO state wasn't really surprising to anyone!

oh i thought its all started with Euromaida?

Ah, no. It started with a liar president who promised something and did not keep his promise.

You mean this? http://www.bbc.com/news/world-europe-26289318

Oh dear Zeo, I am sure you know what I meant. I was not saying about something that was a result of Euromaidan, because how it could be, at the same moment, its cause then?

Just because it wasn't a surprise doesn't mean we should accept it. Sure, Russia is fighting to survive as a major power. We should admit that so that we better understand the motivation of their decision-makers.

At the same time the interest of pretty much everyone in Europe is in Russia's decline and eventual integration into the western power structure.

Russia has legitimate interests in Ukraine. And also in the Baltics and arguably Poland and the rest of Central Europe. And if those interests are met they will have legitimate interests in Germany, Austria and Finland, etc. Not because Putin is Hitler or because empire building is in the Russian DNA, or any such nonsense. Just because of the logic of power politics.

The fascist dictator you love is the cause of all this mess. He couldn't support seeing Ukraine go to Europe so he acted like the fascist he is. He is creating this East vs West thing by constantly being a dick to every single country on this planet. He is the pure example of unilateral acting. In the world he is just feared, he has no real ally and that's even more the case right now.
A shitty economy based on oil and gas export without industrial or service power and the second most powerful army in the world while being the biggest country of the world. An unlimited potential used for shitty things. He would better try to stop the declining of the population instead of going to war, and giving more opportunities for the educated who are flying and investing in other countries.

Look at that, seriously, it is completely dumb.

That one is in french but gives a more global picture, Putin will intervene if the Ukraine police makes one mistake and his army is ready. I hope that if he intervenes, NATO will too because it's completely surreal.

I thought that wars were currently only a thing for countries in development but look at that shit Putin is doing.

Funny and sad how they protested against "German interference" in Ukraine's internal affairs and yet they call Vladimir Vladimirovich to send in Russian troops as he is their last hope for help.

It's such a waste since I think intense European - Russian cooperation could be very beneficial for both sides. All this bullshit powerplay is madness of people higher up iver the backs of the common people.

Not really. At least not until Putin is out of office. (http://www.bloombergview.com/articles/2014-04-04/putin-s-rejection-of-the-west-in-writing)

Russia is trying to antagonize the West. Just because Europe has arrived in the 21st century, that sadly doesn't mean everyone else has. We're probably better offf keeping Russia at bay as long as they're on the road they're on now.

OK... Nowhere in this thread did I say anything about loving Yanukovych, even the post above yours I label him as a dick. He was so incompetent that he let the country fall into the hands of a criminal rabble destroying Ukraine brick by brick as we speak. There was no East/West divide in Ukraine before the 2004 revolution, after which the people that came to power used intense russophobia as their only platform to get votes. The same people that ruled Ukraine so badly that the majority of people voted for Yanukovych in the last elections.

If Yanukovych was a fascist then the animals on the street wearing nazi-collaborator memorabilia and attacking people at random would be for Yanukovych, not against him. Don't be silly, not a fascist, only an idiot.

Euromaidan brought the country on the brink of a civil war. This thread is called the Euromaidan thread because everything happening now in the Ukraine is a direct result of the actions of Euromaidan and the collapse of civil society it brought with it.

oh i thought its all started with Euromaida?

You are talking about (I think) the great division between the people of Ukraine as the cause of Euromaiden? Is it better now (after EM)?

Yea be fair guys, zoe is photoshopping for putin and apparently kuchma. He loves successful dictators only, not second tier losers like yanukovich and milosevic.

Because everyone in the world knows that Putin coerced Yanukovych into not signing the deal with EU what led to Euromaidan. Ultimately Putin is the force responsible for all the turmoil that currently is going on in Ukraine. Don't get me wrong, I am talking about current situation, the recent past (last 15-20 years) should be attributed to the native oligarchs and native crooked politicians, who were ransacking their compatriots on every occassion.

The discussion was about the cause of this mess, and Putin played with Ukraine and is still playing right now: funny and sad how he wanted Ukraine to stay as its docile satellite, how he send militias to Crimea and Ukraine with no Russian signs and then talk about rights, laws and people's hopes, how Lavrov and Kerry discussed the future of Ukraine in Paris, I imagine them at a 5 star hotel discussing the fate of a country... Ukraine's sovereignty doesn't mean shit to him that's why he allows himself to do whatever he wants.
If you advocate Russia policy, you are advocating Putin's actions and I've yet to come across someone on the net advocating Putin's actions without adoring him and defending him on every move he makes.

Maybe it's related to the leader cult that is present in Russia since the tsar empire? Some people firmly believe Eltsine failed as a president but he tried to follow the advises of neo liberals hence a harsh path to the liberal model. But Putin only rode the wave of oil and gas export so some people forgive his reelection and now that he shows Russia's muscle he is a god that has the right to manipulate the media? It looks like in Russia leaders have to be merciless bastards, perhaps this is why Eltsine and Gorbatchev failed to stay in power.

By the latest social polls the Party of Regions sits at 6% vote rate, while Euromaidan forces enjoy full support (except Svoboda who dropped quite a bit). "Destroying one's own country" looks like a smart political move. Isn't it, zeo?

Dunno how much longer this can go on. Ukraine will have to defend itself at some point. The problem, of course, is that thats exactly what Putin wants because he is certain nobody will help Ukraine when Russia marches in. Putin cracks me up every time he talks about human rights, respect, fascists and so on. His own Party and his own rhetoric is as nationalistic as it gets. Does he even know what kind of people are in the duma? He should seriously take a look before saying anything else.

What do you expect, this is just a typical world view articulated by the Russian state media.
"Vesti's" coverage of elections in France again evokes the theme of "Europe in flames" and a looming fascist threat to Russia even beyond Ukraine's horizon. The coverage emphasizes the showing of the rightist National Front and says Europe's right-wing parties are poised to make a big showing in the next European Parliament elections. The successes of rightist forces across Europe is attributed to the social tolerance of Western governments, including the legalization of same-sex marriage.

That segment provides an excellent segue to allow the day's broadcasting to end where it began -- in Napoleonic Europe. March 31, we are told, is the 200th anniversary of the Russian Army's triumphal entry into Paris after chasing Napoleon back all the way from Moscow.

gay fascism is on the march, only glorious Putin can stop it.
