That is ridiculous and will never ever happen. It is. But I’ve seen similar concerns about the 2018 election and other things in general from folks I wouldn’t expect. I think it reflects a general distrust in our institutions and the people in power, well beyond the standard dislike of politicians. The recent statements from the speaker and the efforts to undermine the FBI is really problematic. My point is simply that elections held on schedule even during the American Civil War. It is patently ridiculous to suggest that any modern political party would even try to suspend them today, much less succeed in doing so.
Effort to undermine the FBI by Team Trump and their craven stooges are indeed very problematic. People should be angry about it. But there is a very vast divide between undermining DoJ and FBI to "elections are suspended until further notice." It's not good to conflate the two, since such hyperbole seriously weakens any legitimate points you have.

I’m just pointing out that erosion of faith in governance is not limited to simply the FBI. People are assuming these folks will try anything to see if they can get away with it. By undermining the FBI, the process for writing bills and any number of other “norms,” the Trump administration and Republican congress erodes trust in our entire system. People are not aware of every single problem, but they know that something rotten in the state of Denmark. And a speech or tax bill with good job numbers can’t fix that.

Trump's top public health official resigned from her post Wednesday after mounting questions about financial conflicts of interest, HHS announced.
Dr. Brenda Fitzgerald's resignation comes one day after POLITICO reported she bought shares in a tobacco company — the leading cause of preventable disease and death and an issue she had long championed — one month into her tenure as CDC director.
Fitzgerald, a doctor and former Georgia Department of Public Health commissioner, assumed her role as CDC director in July and was close to former HHS Secretary Tom Price, who resigned in September after POLITICO reported his use of private jets.
The stock in Japan Tobacco was one of about a dozen new investments Fitzgerald made after she took over the job, according to documents obtained by POLITICO. Fitzgerald had already come under congressional scrutiny for slow-walking divestment from older holdings that government officials said posed potential conflicts of interest and prevented her from testifying before Congress.
Fitzgerald’s purchase of stock in Japan Tobacco in August, first revealed by POLITICO, drew scrutiny from public health experts who said it goes against the mission of her agency. She sold it at the end of October.
Beside Japan Tobacco, she also purchased tens of thousands of dollars in new stock in at least a dozen companies, including between $1,001 and $15,000 each in Merck & Co, Bayer and health insurance company Humana, as well as between $15,001 and $50,000 in US Food Holding Co., according to financial disclosure documents.

Supposedly Wray is none too happy with what he calls factual inaccuracies in the Nunes memo. My tinfoil hat says this is actually just a ploy to bolster Trump's case to not release the memo while still leaning on it in an effort to discredit the investigation. But that's too much credit, I think.
There's also no real sources in the article and this whole topic is a swirling matrix of contradictory leaks, so take anything with a grain of salt or seven thousand.

at this point i’m surprised Nunes has the credibility and political capital to keep the spotlight this long. I straight up wouldn’t believe anything he leaked having built it up for this long.
jesus there were injuries after all. removing my now completely inappropriate joke

Except this is not just Nunes. The GOP heads are behind this.

Bit of local Oregon news for you guys. Oregon State University has a complete shit head white nationalist who is basically doing everything he can to draw attention to himself and generally be an awful person. Put bumper stickers calling people niggers on the cars of people gathering in support of immigrants. It's a really weird situation and it seems he hasn't technically done enough to get kicked out yet. I think the school is just being super careful they don't get sued.
He's a member of the student government and goes way out of his way to be an ass. When a school program that does minority out reach and stuff like that was requesting their funding for the year (as all of these things need to), he basically questioned them saying "so you're asking the white majority to give their hard earned money to a minority class just so that minorities can further segregate themselves?" and then had this shit eating grin on his face like he just dropped the biggest mic on the planet.
Total piece of shit.
In Corvallis, police say Oswalt and another person placed the bumper stickers that contained a racists slur for African Americans on two cars at the First Alternative Natural Foods Co-Op.
The bumper stickers covered messages on the cars that supported immigrants and refugees, said Faith Reidenbach, co-founder of the Corvallis chapter of Show up for Racial Justice. The group is designed to mobilize white people to support people of color and take action for racial justice.
An employee discovered that someone also had placed anti-Semitic leaflets on the windshields of every car in the staff parking lot at the same time, said Cindee Lolik, co-op general manager.
"The kinds of things that you would see on the Daily Stormer," Lolik said, referring to a prominent white supremacist website, "stuff straight out of Nazi Germany."
A lot of people are scared he's gonna just end up shooting up the school. He is clearly trying to martyr himself.

It's almost like there's a consistent glorifying of the provocateur (on both sides, though I'm sure people would argue about which is worse) that people have even spun into careers and that makes some kids into asshole provocateurs in attempts to get fame/glory/cash.

Why are TL admins allowed to shitpost again? Can I start posting memes now? At least I would provide context and not flat out insults with bad jokes.

That's a news tweet and the crash really happened.

TBH I think there's a fair amount of shitposts here, it's just that when quality posts by anyone significantly outweigh the shitposts, they're overlooked.

I mean, the "GOP train" hitting a dump truck certainly sounds like something I would say. It's true on multiple levels. Unfortunately, it's the truck that gets hurt.
If Paul Ryan is retiring (still "unofficial"), then this entire era of GOP is basically dead. A hit-and-run on our government by corporate goons, with the final cherry being a treasonous President who can't even fly to Britain because our closest-ally would basically riot in protest.
The true-believers that are still in the GOP, even as their leaders are itching to run away at a moment where they should be feeling nothing but victorious, are committed for life. I think it's pretty clear that if you can't leave the GOP now, you can never leave. Kudos to those that remain to fight the good fight against the librul gubmint, if only your elected-officials carried a fraction of your conviction. Unfortunately, it seems the GOP is happy to let the Democrats take over again.

It is almost as good as article yesterday about how liberals are all about using racism, while the article casually asserts that a changing racial make up of the country is not something people should want.

It's not a shitpost, it's a garbage post.
