And Trump is making shit up about immigration again, FYI. And this follow up tweet is super good. irrc spouse, children and siblings, but sponsoring immigrants actually means a lot. You need something like 125% income above poverty for the household or assets as proof. And you're on the hook for their success until they become a citizen.
Now that i think about it i actually don't know how children become citizens. I should probably look that up later.

And the president railing against people protesting, demanding they respect the flag. Jefferson would not demand people stand, for that is something a king would do.

Don’t tell that’s folks trying to limit immigration. They are convinced all the extended family free loads of the system. It’s a nasty myth that refuses to die.

Just read the SOTU transcript. Not bad, even if I do have key disagreements with his assertions throughout. I expect his core support base will be happy and his dedicated opposition will not be.

I'm in the process of sponsoring 3 Canadian family members for green cards. It's a long, grueling process that costs thousands. I pity those who have to go through all this with less resources at their disposal than I. Takes some dedication for sure.

Trumps approval is in the gutter...all you need to know really. Trump is not himself at a SOTU. There’s just too much of a contrast between his tweets while he’s eating cheeseburgers and his SOTU presentation. But, Hillary’s Emails.

You know if there was any week for the "total authoritarian control act" of 2018 to enter the discussion, it'd be this one :|

No other republican would have had the balls to get up there and unapologetically dismantle one anti-American democrat position after another and then steal their lunch money on some easy bipartisan issues. The only anti American thing in politics is the republican party that has literally sold our country out to russia, and the voter base like you that are complicit with it or even cheer it on. I'm always confused by this idea that calling half of all Americans "traitor liberal communist baby-murdering scum" is not seen as anti-American.
My suspicion is that culture war attacks tend to be based on projection, finding your own insecurities conveniently manifested in your enemies.

Nah, I think they're genuinely convinced of this stuff. Just like many Americans genuinely think pills are the answer to happiness and thus consume them in vast quantities.
Why are they convinced? Mass projection seems like a stretch. The more obvious answer is that people are dumb and easily manipulated and the US media + laws allow for this to happen.

The fundamental attribute of any politician is they're desperate never to show you themselves to begin with. Not when they're reciting someone else's words from the teleprompter anyway. Having access to Trump's genuine bluster is just a bonus.

Look at the rightist posters on here. Thinking the other side is evil is pretty solidly American these days. Seems like they ought to lose the 'U' in 'USA' if things don't drastically swing back in the other direction post-Trump. I think the left/right divisions are going to get deeper and nastier all the way through Trump's reign.

That's true, but as the '18 election will show, that line is going to move in a direction away from where it lies today and on the day Trump was elected.

That is ridiculous and will never ever happen.

The right loves America, but hates Americans The left hates America, but loves Americans.
It's rather oversimplified and sentimental, but there is a grain of truth in it.

The recent statements from the speaker and the efforts to undermine the FBI is really problematic.

This should be a yes or no question. It should really just be “No”.
