Towards the end here I'm seeing some suggestions that actually sound good to me. Vocational schools, paid leave, empower people who serve their sentences to be able to actually have a life.
Parading the parents of children murdered by gang members doesn't seem very classy. Then asking them to stand...

Either this a jump the shark moment or the Democrats are that fucking stupid to let Trump of all people get the jump on such an issue. I don't understand this criticism of the Democrats. They almost definitely support some paid family leave but they can't really do anything about it without someone reaching across from the right. Note that the republican congressman may not agree with some of those proposals in the speech.

Democrats have been pushing paid family leave more than a decade. I don’t know what the fuck blue is prattling on about. Trump seems tame, but that is a trick we have seen before.

Really where is the ad campaign or the town halls advocating it, last time I checked Pelosi was caught threatening Democrats funding if they move left.

I've seen Trump put forward a few decent ideas in the past, only to walk it back when somebody gets a hold of him. Primary example being when he met with big pharma to cut medication prices and... didn't.
But if it ever starts getting discussed in the legislature, the R's will shoot it down and Trump will complain that the D's aren't helping. The canoe will continue drifting down the creek.

One thing that particularly bothered me with Trump saying that we will fight the drug/OD epidemic by being tougher on dealers and pushers. That shows a blatant and complete misunderstanding of the problem which I would think shouldn't have made it into the vetted speech.

Just realized this could easily be a rehash of a 1950's SOTU.

He did not poop his pants in congress, so prepare for praise that he was presidential.
