Why did Trump have to go to half a dozen people as reported yesterday to try to squash it, and get jack shit in return? McConnell and Ryan have both been pretty fierce "supporters" of letting the investigation continue unimpeded. You think there just wasn't anything in their power they could have reasonably done to throw it off course and still save face? They clearly have no intention of going down with the ship. They didn't exactly choose Trump, they were stuck with him when he somehow won against the electable Hillary Clinton and the even more electable Jeb Bush & co.

Because stopping the investigation, aside from bad optics, also ties you to any 'obstruction of justice' charges down the line. No one sane wants to touch any possible connection with a 10 foot pole.

i mean hell, trump isn’t good for gop congressmen to begin with. i’m betting all of them with any integrity (so you can see here why Sessions is so pleased) would’ve preferred any of the other candidates.
