Is this some kind of meta thing? Who do you think is being critical here? Trump of the press coverage or the press of Trump's response to the press? Please clarify because the normal idea is that in a democracy the press should be free to attack the government but it seems an awful lot like you just argued that it's actually the other way around.

But we didn't expect this!" They'll make some excuse and keep right supporting him. It's now a countdown to when he leaves. I'm curious as to what pence would do. Would he reassign the people trump brought into his administration (perry, carson, devos, etc) or would he keep them there?

I don't see why he'd bother to reassign them, since they're not making too many bad headlines and they're successfully carrying out the Republican plan of quiet incompetence and undoing progress.

I went to the rally tonight as a learning experience. I am a registered Independent who obviously leans left and heavily dislikes Trump. I went to this rally to experience the atmosphere and attitudes of those people I consider crazy from afar. At a risk of coming off as naive, honestly when I got to my car the only emotion I was experiencing was sadness. They had to file us out a different entrance than the one we came in because Police were clashing with protesters. As they walked us over the skybridge between buildings I had a perfect view out the window as tear gas/flash bangs were being thrown at a large mass of protesters. As soon as we got outside we were immediately confronted by the protesters. Surrounded by dozens of riot police you could see everyone from the fully decked out Antifa fucks to your standard BLMers calling us racist and screaming that they hated us. As soon as we got past the line of police I got to the major street corner behind which was my parking garage. On one side of the street was seemingly thousands of protesters screaming across the street at the leaving attendees who, ofc, were screaming back. I've spent my life in the middle class. I can honestly say I've never experienced hatred like I have tonight, and it scares me. It's easy to hate the other side on the internet but to actually see it in person it becomes obvious that there is something very wrong with political discourse in this country. It's as if I could see the sickness at the heart of our democracy in person. Obviously varying degrees of blame belong to each side. However, getting to Trump, I can't help but be disgusted. The triviality and ease with which he throws fuel on the racial fire in this country, spews hatred, and lowers political discourse is embarrassing. The people I stood in line with for hours were no different from any person you meet on the street, but once you get in that room and the suits start talking it's as if they are possessed. One stand out moment was this 2 min stretch where he jumped between talking about religion and attacking the media, ofc to a deafening chorus of boos and "Fuck CNN!" It had a cult-like vibe. I believe we are in trouble as a nation. To call our president a dangerous demagogue doesn't go nearly far enough. I believe we need somebody in 2020 who is not only competent, but also who chooses not to fight fire with fire. We need to get away from this level of discourse. This should be the exception, not the norm. Trying to fight Trump at his level will make this worse, not better. Overall, despite the physical pain, this was a revealing experience and I'm glad I went. Got a bunch of good pics/vids too! Was within arms reach of General Kelly and Steph Miller (could smell the stench of sulfur off this dude... he just looks evil). Ben Carson and Pence both spoke. Also got a good shot of behind the curtain where somehow they got the Beast up to the 3rd floor of the convention center, surrounded ofc by a bunch of heavily armed badasses. Definitely was impressed by the Secret Service.

Now them and their allies pretend they can have it both ways. Tip the scales too much and you're DNC affiliates and America is waiting for a new free press to unshackle themselves from ideology and report the news.

The veneer is exposed, and the underbelly is not a pretty sight. It seems everybody is confident a President can act so flippantly and narcissistically to cause real harm, but when conservative posters apply the same rational analysis to the role of the press in a democracy, everybody has trouble putting two and two together. They should've had more wisdom to know rooting for your gal will inspire backlash that is more retributive than balanced, and it should surprise nobody. From a political digest for the sense of thought process the belies this state of affairs: “The lesson from Charlottesville is not how dangerous the neo-Nazis are. It is the unmasking of the Republican party leadership. In the wake of last weekend’s horror and tragedy, let us finally, finally rip off the veneer that Trump’s affinity for white supremacy is distinct from the Republican agenda of voter suppression, renewed mass incarceration and the expulsion of immigrants… “Words mean nothing if the Republican agenda doesn’t change. Governors and state legislatures were so quick to embrace people of color in order to avoid the impression, they too share Trump’s supreme affinity for the white race. But if they don’t stand up for them they are not indirectly, but directly enabling the agenda of those same racists that Republican members were so quick to condemn via Twitter.” The implication here is simple: if you are a conventional Republican, you are a Nazi. And Nazis, as we all know, deserve whatever they get when they go in public. “CNN described the rally as “mostly peaceful,” and celebrated the so-called counter-protesters. Every anchor and guest for six straight hours praised the counter-protesters as people who are just there to oppose hate, bigotry, and violence. CNN anchor Fredricka Whitfield literally described the Left’s presence as being about “Peace and love.” Yes. Really. See for yourself. It’s teed up here. “What was once simple bias from media personalities like Jake Tapper and Chuck Todd has become explicitly dangerous. Rather than report on now-normalized leftist violence, the media inspire more of it by insisting President Trump and the Right in general are racists and fascists. Rather than expose Democrats for manufacturing racism and disparity by using identity politics as a political weapon, the media helps manufacture more by falsely blaming the Right for both.” The Guardian The Federalist I think there's reason to hope a new generation brings more unity (and thanks OnSlaught for showing the hatred of the counterprotestors and mob mentality of the Trump supporters at the rally).
