Step 2 was discredit Hillary Clinton.
Step 1 was to actually have a candidate running.

I agree, people had higher expectations for Trump in the first debate than for this one.

This one isn't.
Trump was just fucking annihilated. He looked far worse than he did in the 1st debate. Same exact trajectory where he slowly came off the rails and rambled more and more, but this time, his answers were awful start to finish. Clinton was absolutely on top of her game for the vast majority of the night. There were questions here and there where she looked weak, but every time Trump had an opportunity, he failed HARD.
There's never imo been a debate in politics anywhere with as bad of a performance as the first Trump debate.

Trump's attacks on Hillary also had less impact this time around when he started recycling the same shit that he already used before.

Where is my post debate poll? Need to vote "Wallace only".

Don't think there will be one since the first two were bot-bombed by Trump supporters.

Would anyone indulge me in naming a debate where they thought a Republican won?

Also, I don't understand Trump's bizarre "give the Saudi's back their money from your charity thing because they hate women/gays."
Wouldn't it make more sense to take the money and spend it on helping impoverished women and people suffering from AIDs (many of whom are gay)?

i wonder how cruz would have done vs hillary

I thought Trump easily won the first half of the debate in the eyes of an average voter, but Hillary did better in the 2nd half (roughly from the point when he said he wouldn't support the president)... And I think the 2nd half was a bit better for Hillary than Trump's first half.
He did ok from a holding together standpoint but wasn't winning any points. He was just holding the facade together. Once she said he went to mexico and folded on the wall, basically calling him a bitch he went off the rails and lost catastrophically. That's all it takes for the man to come unhinged and turn into a child.
He wasn't actually doing anything though before he lost it.

Trump should have studied foreign policy very hard, her Achilles heel. Yeah, too bad. I agree a lot philosophically with some of his positions, but the execution wasn't what it could have been for the entire campaign. He wasn't the prince that was promised.
The thing is the war is not over yet.
He wilL Start Trump TV, they will bang the drums of war for 4 years and then the alt-right will have a more polished candidate that will try to get the presidency.
Donald basically just needed to rehearse his speeches at home, calmly .... go trough every point, hammer her on foreign policy, how she destabilized Libya that is now run by ISIS , Alqaeda and other Extremists, how she wants to arm the extremists in Aleppo.... The Syria refugee crisis that she helped to create, etc.
Talking about how she accepts donations from Saudi Arabia was good but he could have talked about it more. How saudi's are bombing civilians in Yemen with american bombs. AMERICA NEEDS TO BE A BEACON OF DEMOCRACY AND NOT A FORCE OF TYRANNY.

Cruz and Carson would have lost badly. Rubio would have slaughtered though.

Would have hammered her on issues. They both lack personality, so that would have been a draw. I would love to have seen that or Rubio, who despite his robot moment generally knows what he is talking about.

I was thinking Kasich or Ryan or even Romney.

Romney won the first debate against Obama.

Cruz has quite a few skeletons in his closet and the whole government shutdown thing is loathed by a lot of Americans. He also kind of creeped me out whenever he spoke, but Trump creeps me out even more and gets more support so.

Yep, got a big swing out of it too. Obama looked super tired if I remember correctly, it played poorly.

Biden destroyed Ryan, he's done for. Kasich or Romney would have done well too. They needed to put forth a sane centrist. The country wasn't asking a lot!
