Pence’s comments came in response to then Secretary of State Colin Powell saying in an MTV forum that young people should protect themselves through safe sex with condoms. “I think it’s important for young people, especially, to protect themselves from the possibility of acquiring any sexually transmitted disease, but especially to protect themselves from HIV/AIDS, which is a plague that is upon the face of the earth,” Powell said. In an interview with CNN, Pence called Powell’s comments a “sad day,” and said he advocated for abstinence education. Pence said Powell’s call for condom use mislead millions of young people and put their lives at risk. “Well, Wolf, I think it was — given the enormous stature that Colin Powell rightly has, not only in America but in the world community, it was a sad day. I don’t think any administration has had a worst day since boxers and briefs on MTV,” Pence said on CNN to Wolf Blitzer. “And the truth is that Colin Powell had an opportunity here to reaffirm this president’s commitment to abstinence as the best choice for our young people, and he chose not to do that in the first instance, but — and so I think it’s very sad.” “The other part is that, frankly, condoms are a very, very poor protection against sexually transmitted diseases, and in that sense, Wolf, this was — the secretary of state maybe inadvertently misleading millions of young people and endangering lives,” continued Pence. Pence said the solution was “too modern” for him. “The problem is it was too modern of an answer, Wolf,” he said. “It was — it truly was a modern, liberal answer to a problem that parents like me are facing all over America, and frankly, all over the world.” The Center for Disease Control says condoms can effectively protect from many of the most serious sexually transmitted diseases when applied correctly. Source In his defence, would you really risk having sex with someone with HIV and a condom? (numbers are 98%~) Again, it's biased... He's saying it's important to emphasize that abstinence is an option, the only 100% safe one, and should be brought up and shown the advance of. You'll have plenty of time to have sex once you're an adult. Anyway, I'm very pro-sex, and my partner and I have zero worry about conceiving (and only birth control is our method of choice), since the thought of an abortion is not a big concern for either of us. But I can respect people that have different opinions. edit: Also, fuck Hillary. She's bringing up stuff from 2002, back then, she was anti-gay marriage herself.

But no, it won't be in the schedule ![]() Bernie didn't get such a terrible time slot because he was going to be the unifying force of the convention. The fracture in the Democratic party is much worse than publicized. People expecting a contrast in party unity will likely be very disappointed. Bernie delegates are going to make very clear how stupid it is to run a campaign on "who do you believe will be worse" with a nominee who is less trusted than the least trusted/liked than any Republican candidate in ages. Hillary is going to do everything in her power to try to fake the funk though. They've already threatened to kick people out and remove their credentials for booing. Her camp is already reneging on their promises in exchange for Bernie going to that NH event with Hillary, and plenty of other crap. HillaryCo is going to try to pretend the party is united behind her and I don't think it's going to go as smoothly as she thinks. Despite the threats of basically destroying anyone's political career who voices opposition during the convention.

It's been confirmed by the delegations that Bernie was told if he didn't "endorse" he wouldn't be invited to speak at the convention and his delegates might not be allowed to participate either. That would include getting his folks on the platform committee and such I'm not spilling the beans on the plan on the off chance it gets back to HillaryCo. It should just be pretty clear the party isn't as united as people would like to project. My prediction was that if people think the DNC convention is going to be an example of party unity, they are going to be disappointed.

My prediction was that if people think the DNC convention is going to be an example of party unity, they are going to be disappointed. GH is right about the democrats having their own major unity problems. I have a connection at the highest levels of the Democrat Party (you'd be shocked if I told you) who confirmed as such to me earlier this year. The precise phrasing used was that the Democrats are about four years behind the Republicans in terms of division and dysfunction.
