I'm really not. You said you weren't afraid of religions but now we know you at least fear "cults" and judgmental burkha wearers. I'm trying to outline your imagination here for your benefit and mine.

Yes, and during that process when you continued to bombard me with questions about the worst aspects of human nature, I decided it was not longer worth my time. That the interaction between you and me on the subject was a net loss for me, so I decided you move on.

You seem to confuse harping on someone about your own pet issues with religion a discussion. It isn’t. I see this trend a lot when it comes to discussions about religion on the internet, were the non-religious person bombard the other person with questions until they get tired of answering. That is the opposite of a discussion. It’s not even a debate.

Projection much? Sorry I don't care about your religion. I was trying to examine your belief about beliefs. I think if you ever call Donald Trump "thin-skinned" again you should be banned for being so incredibly unaware of yourself.

Yeah fuck Socrates. He asked too many questions. It's good you are only a paralegal because I don't think you'd make it through law school.

I wouldn’t turn to Socrates for lessons on social skills, tbh. Let me put it this way. You are interested in examining my religious beliefs. I’m not. Good luck with that.

Why are you not interested? Just curious.

I have better people to discuss the matter with that are less irritating and better read on the subject of religion. It is a mostly one sided discussion that beliefs me very little, since the goal is mostly to make me question my beliefs, rather than learn something.

What can i read to be considered well read on the subject?

John Locke is not terrible. Isaac Newton is interesting. C. S. Lewis isn't bad. Tolkien also had some good thoughts. I am not up to date on any currently active writers right now.

All this is bullshit.
Read Max Weber, there is everything you need to know about religion.

I have not read Max Weber, but I am not shocked you recommended the author of The Protestant Ethic and the Spirit of Capitalism

Weber is brilliant, and his work on religion unmatched. He was a more of a liberal than a communist, but the intelligent kind.

Weber again. I greatly recommend his speech on the vocation of scientist and politician as a start (and they're free on the internet !). It's a gold mine for anyone who want to think about anything really.

People have recommended him to me in the past, but then my love of historical writing and study took over and I never really got back to religious studies. I should read him.

This is almost as bad as letting a Clinton foundation donor onto a security board for no reason what so ever. And then attempting to stall ABC news and hide the fact that this man existed. Except it's not.

I'll find the video in it's entirety and watch it later. I'll let you know. Probably an exaggeration like it usually is.

Without context this is hard to interpret. I am not a Trump fan myself, but to me at first it didn't really seem bad. I understood the statement as: "If you want to know about gay people, talk to them, ask them" which seems like a reasonable statement to make. Of course it highly depends on what the context is, but without context, those 8 seconds are not really damning to me.

Generally speaking, i think 8 seconds of video without context should only very rarely be used to make any point.

The same way we at TL shun balance whine and focus on working hard to get to that sweet grandmaster level (not that anyone actually plays sc2 anymore), that same attitude can be extended to real life. Yeah, being black actually sucks in most cases. You are most likely going to be born to a single mom, in a impoverished area and have the odds stacked against you, but it is still that person's responsibility to do his/her best in a given situation. Currently, there are enough well-fare and government programs, which ironically are a form of benevolent racism which should allow anyone to ATLEAST be in the upper middle class. Most of us might never reach the 1% even if we juice out every ounce of our potential, but I think the vast majority of people irrespective of skin color can make it to the middle-upper middle class level even coming from the worst environments. The far left and BLM movements want blizzard to fix everything for them, even though if they were "skilled" enough they should be able to win in the end.

These kinds of movements poison the already disadvantaged black community by holding them back psychologically even more. They are already pressed for resources and time, yet they waste it by congregating outside and screaming empty words without any organization. Also in my opinion there is no white privilege, if anything there is a wealth privilege and even more important a family privilege. Starting out with a single parent without any good family support system puts you in a huge disadvantage.

Fuck it, just close this thread forever, this shit is so dumb. As wonderful Stefanie Sprengnagel said a few days ago, "I think guys that feel themselves to be oppressed by the political correctness dictatorship would shoot themselves in the head after spending a day in the body of an actual minority." Everybody can make it to upper middle class! LOL.

Lets revive the bookthread instead maybe.

I think the main reason StealthBlue posted that is because people generally aren't fans of being referred to as "the _____" whether it's "the gays" "the Jews" "the blacks" "the whites" "the diabetics" etc. Even "the Republicans" or "The Democrats" is kind of a mechanism for other-ing and dehumanization if you look at it a certain way.

(and from my experience in the field of health it is generally more productive to refer to a group as "gay people" or "people with diabetes" or "Republican-leaning voters" if you wish to engage with that group-even ignoring whether it's somehow more or less "politically correct", nobody wants to be reduced to "a hypertensive" while you are soliciting their feedback)

But that's not anything particularly new from how Trump refers to people, it's pretty much just how he talks.

Really? At this point we'll arrive at 2.0 meters people getting mad if referred to as 'tall'... how is pointing out one's party dehumanizing?

Wow, they actually released that? That's going to be a hell of a political firestorm sooner or later. Curious what the official response of the US govt is going to be.

Maybe the DNC will learn to secure their data better.

Well, I don't know if it's actually true or real. But.. clearly a lot of work was put into it. I won't jump to conclusions but that's the official story so far. Having it get "hacked" could even be a political move seeing as it's not like it's painting Donald in a pretty light. Though people are ripping through it right now so we'll see what the juiciest parts are.

I really don't think that's a fake. I started reading through it and it's clearly a highly developed research piece that probably cost tens of thousands of dollars, maybe more, to write up.

It doesn't help the DNC in the slightest to have this leaked. It gives Trump a whole lot of leverage to prepare and refute the current strategy of the Hillary campaign. They could develop a new strategy but that's going to be a lot of work.

News story on the leak: http://bgr.com/2016/06/15/trump-research-file-dnc-clinton-hacker/

Yeh, we should clearly believe this "perceived threat" (lol) chart and consider and murderous and right extrem movement to be less of a threat than animal activist, which constantly get unwarrantly criminalized and are almost completly harmless.

I haven't gone through the opposition research file in detail yet, but skimming through the contents, I wasn't particularly impressed with what they had.
