Sarah Palin, the former Alaska governor and 2008 vice-presidential nominee who became a Tea Party sensation and a favorite of grass-roots conservatives, will endorse Donald J. Trump in Iowa on Tuesday, officials with his campaign confirmed. The endorsement provides Mr. Trump with a potentially significant boost just 13 days before the state’s caucuses. “I’m proud to endorse Donald J. Trump for president,” Ms. Palin said in a statement provided by his campaign. Her support is the highest-profile backing for a Republican contender so far. “I am greatly honored to receive Sarah’s endorsement,” Mr. Trump said in a statement trumpeting Mrs. Palin’s decision. “She is a friend, and a high-quality person whom I have great respect for. I am proud to have her support.” Source Does this make Trump the Tea Party candidate now?

I think Trump's plan is to focus purely on just pounding the primary and then figure everything else out after. Palin is great for primaries and local elections.

How did this ever become a narrative? McCain had a 0.5% chance of winning the election pre-convention, which became something like 1.5% post-convention, and proceeded back to 0.0001% (approximately equal to the chance that Obama committed a felony on the campaign trail, or had a major felony, not drugs, revealed with near 100% certainty) once the economy truly died in October 2008. Sarah Palin was never great, and had one interview that made her look pretty bad, but no one votes for VPs anyways, and she was nothing resembling the weirdo-idiot pre-election that she was post-election. Like, Palin is a goofball, but McCain never had a chance, and what little chance he had was because of her exciting-ness, and what little damage she did by being a bad interviewer was outweighed 100-fold by the bad economy.

Palin was clearly a moron pre-election. She took an otherwise semi likable reasonable guy like McCain and made him completely and totally unelectable by any moderate. There was a very real possibility that McCain would die in office and we'd be stuck with a fucking lunatic. People do vote for VPs when the Presidential candidate is an old man with a poor history of health. McCain was a long shot coming after a Bush presidency people were over it, the odds of a Republican getting elected were tiny. But Palin made sure it was absolutely positively unwinnable.

The naked pandering to the republican unreasonable, no compromise base is straight up losing them elections. The fact that people think Trump has some level of viability still amazes me. And now people talk about Palin like she isn’t a total joke and a great way to lose independents.

We'll she if she takes it back. I feel like the "real" Trump is about to really come out, at least for conservatives. I hope.

Tough sell calling Palin the reason for the ticket loss. McCain was dead and Palin restored a faint heartbeat. All this notwithstanding her speaking and joking style, and all this before post-elections antics. I don't think Trump can play solid evangelical with his record. The best voters can hope for is no antipathy towards religion.

Or put another way, I don't see how Palin could refrain from endorsing him before, but feels confident enough to do so now. What changed recently? Certainly nothing positive, to a conservative.
