Anyways, I understand that they're signing him as a personality rather than a player. I first became a fan of MB through his Youtube work. Once WCF sort of died/went off, I lost interest in him rather fast. His stream IS interesting but I find myself watching it for the same reason I watch Orb's: To see them lose and then whine about balance.
MB is not a very good player at all, and I think many people would agree with me on that. His mechanics aren't good and he doesn't have a good understanding of the game in general. Which makes me think, why would they hire him as a caster?
Anyways, good-luck and all that stuff, but still not too happy about the pick-up.

Those hating about teams picking up players for popularity....
IdrA.
Nuff said.
Those saying that the Bouse is a bad player, I believe that if he truly works hard and plays a lot and keeps working for it, I really believe that he could get to Grandmasters and eventually be able to compete with other top North American players. Do I think he will be much better than, say, iNcontroL or maybe someone like HuK, I doubt it, but HuK and iNcontroL are both very valuable players if nothing else for their contributions to the community.

im happy for him as an entertainer, he seems to get plenty of viewers for whatever it is he does (i dont watch) and im sure razer want to get in on that action. he isnt their first personality who has been very far away from pro level.
on the added comments of 'working towards becoming pro level', thats great and all, but i dont see it as a realistic goal, being master on NA ladder is nice and stuff, but thats nowhere even close to being competitive. he will need to work his ass off for months and months if he wants to get anywhere, thats a lot of commitment.
Also this is a great point. I have dedicated almost all my free time for a year to go from no competitive RTS experience (playing command and conquer skirmishes and WC3 customs don't count as competitive) starting from bronze doing 6 gate 2 robo 2 SG off 2 base PVT, to being a high masters on NA was probably the hardest work I've ever done, and now I'm not even done, I'm STILL practicing and working harder to get what one can call GOOD. People defend Max because he is a personality that is kind hearted over trolling (IE incontrol), and completely ignore that regardless of "hard work", he still sucks. I've worked harder at being a player than he has and I'm still teamless, and better than him. This has nothing to do with skill he is signed on as a media personality. Also can't help but feel that you are jealous he is being pay to play starcraft 2 and you are not despite being better player then him. By the way he has stop completly dt rushing and has cut down on his 4gate considerably.

Agreed.

As they say, personality goes a long way. The most vocal people in this thread don't seem to understand that.
And just for the record, I don't have any particular feelings about this piece of news.

He is signed on as a fucking media personality, not as a player. So everyone whining about this can just shut the hell up. Maximus Black has worked incredibly hard to get to where he is now and this is great news or him. Stop filling this thread with your whiny bullshit.

Regardless of the reasonsing, I'm happy he's progressing in the SC2 scene. GL MB!

Did you really just compare IdrA's play to the SC2 stylings of MaximusBlack? Seriously?? And HuK is "valuable" for his play 100 times more than for any value to the "community."

Congrats Jeff and Quantic!

If I just read that correctly then you have problems. If you try to compare someone like HuK to a player with no potential like this guy.... Cmon man think. I understand incontrol...but HuK??? And HuK and the community don't make any sense.

Honestly as someone said above just no. MC's name should never appear in the same sentence as MB. Thats just like disrespectful to MC's actual proven title as "The Boss Toss" (which MC actually has earned with his library of builds and achievements.). Kind of seems like Desrow wasted his time coaching if someone can still only run 2 builds and expect to do well.
Moral of the story is dont go disrespecting someone's actual title he earned by winning tournaments, creating sick viable builds and having some awesome celebrations (ceremonies to others ) to an internet personality that cant even come close to touching MC as any kind of toss..

I really don't understand what's so hard to understand about this pick up. It's a MEDIA pickup, not a player pickup (the parties involved have stated this themselves). As a media pickup, this is a very great pickup for Quantic. The whole Razer House thing just shows that MB just wants to try and keep up with his game knowledge as much as possible, even if he'll never be a pro (and I'm not trying to shit on MB by saying this will never happen, just showing how even the pessimistic side of the argument is stupid).
And sorry folks, but media sells way better than top players who barely interact with their audience or even stream (I.E. koreans). You want players to be able to go overseas to play tourneys? People like MB are needed to make that happen, to keep the money flowing to teams. Anyone saying MB is bad for "e-sports" is full of themselves and isn't looking at the bigger picture. Hell, since when did such a decent portion of the SC2 community turn into the portion of the FGC that thinks "e-sports" is hurting their "scene?" Would anyone saying that MB joining Quantic is hurting e-sports would also agree that InControl is as well (sorry InC, no disrespect, but you yourself have even touched on this subject)?
Anyways, gratz MB, and I hope you continue to see your business flourish.

I really don't get this...
Ms.Spyte (High masters Zerg player) , Nathanias (High masters Terran player) , XeroSC (14 Year Old GM Terran ) deserve this spot more than MaximusBlack. They're all more, imo, entertaining, less BM, and actually have knowledge in the game. They rarely cheese, explain how/why they lost, and over all just BETTER players.
___Just venting, but still...Yeesh. I sort of feel like this publicity type of sponsoring etc is going to lead to a ton of phone calls to Razer. (In a negative way)

Nuff said? Idra was by far the best foreign player when EG picked him up. This was before Jinro took that title.

Ugh... more personality pick-ups... de-legitimizes the whole scene imo, especially when its a personality like this kid.

You guys seriously need to relax. It's a personality pickup, which is a totally business-minded move. Nothing wrong with that - you've got the guys who win you tournaments and the guys who win you fans/viewers. He's a funny guy, seems to care about the game, I really don't get the angst.
Maybe it's all muddled by the fact that he's also participating in tournaments and the Razer Academy... but seriously. Chill.
