A soccer player here in the UK is about to be put on trial for racially abusing an opponent. destiny is not e-sports. True, but Quantic does want a foot in the door, and the PC deathball will roll over anything which it finds distasteful. Since Destiny is irrelevent, getting rid of him wouldn't be that impactful, right? It's not impactful to anyone but Destiny, and I'm not comfortable with the idea of shafting someone whom I've never personally met just because he spouted a few racist words on the SC2 ladder in a moment of rage, esp. when throwing him out the door won't actually do anything to change the attitude of the gaming community towards slurs on the whole. It's a pointless and wasteful endeavor, imo, and does more harm than good.

As did I. In fact, I'm still laughing. For some reason, Deezer saying "You gonna get banned piece of shit," immediately popped into my head. And, I'm pretty sure that happened on Destiny's stream. :D

I mean, we don't know that it's a duck, but we don't know that it's not a duck, and it's possible that it could be a duck, so it's a duck. Stop the fucking thread Someone incessantly using racial slurs is accused of being racist! How dare anyone accuse him of that!? It's one thing to accuse; it's yet another to continue pretending it's the case when it's clear that any racism was nothing more than fleeting anger. Really? It's clear that it was "fleeting?" Because Destiny regularly uses language like that and he even came into this very thread to defend his use of those words. Yep, it's still clear that it was nothing more than anger. Trying to ruin his career because he's not your cup of tea is immature, ridiculous, and malice with the permission of your conscience. Yet another straw man. People are not taking action because he isn't their "cup of tea", they're doing it because they believe he is spewing racism. Going to just stop responding to your one-liners. Your one-liners aren't much better. That's why I attempt to make actual arguments rather than just cherrypick sentences and spout pseudo-clever nonsense.
Actually, you're the one shouting pseudo-clever nonsense sans the clever part. He had a valid argument when he said you were straw-manning his point because you were. Nowhere does he state or indicate that he is "trying to ruin his [Destiny] career because he isn't their cup of tea." That's YOUR assumption. It's rather presumptuous of you to assume that you know a person's motives better than he/she does. Based on everyone's posts, most people don't bear any malice towards Destiny. It's actually the exact opposite; they're more concerned with the malice Destiny bears towards minorities.
After all, isn't that how this entire argument began? Over whether Destiny is a racist or not? It's amazing how you somehow where able to turn the conversation around into an ad-hominem attack towards TL members when the original subject was Destiny and not the TL community.

So many slippery slope fallacies in this thread.
Asking someone to not say nigger, gook, or faggot does not mean we will eventually scold him for saying murder, nuke, or other words that can be stretched to be offensive.
Hell, is it so hard to use dictionary.reference.com ?
gook- Slang: Disparaging and Offensive .
nigger- Slang: Extremely Disparaging and Offensive .
faggot- Slang: Disparaging and Offensive .
retard- Slang: Disparaging .
So to Destiny, who tried to be cute asking what words he can and can't say, you can start there.
Grow up and use your heads people. We all have common sense. Who is going to make an argument that it's acceptable to call a black person a nigger? Destiny was playing someone with a korean name and using Korean characters and called him a gook to insult him.
When on the Korean server, upon discovering the most offensive thing that you can say to them is to call them "dog people" he ran with that and used it.
There is literally NO chance SC2 will become mainstream if people like Destiny continue to use language that is shunned in all public outlets.
Even idra cleaned up his act after the Orb controversy. Although, Destiny has stated many times he doesn't give a fuck so to that I say I don't want him to be a part of this community.

Definition of RACISM
1: a belief that race is the primary determinant of human traits and capacities and that racial differences produce an inherent superiority of a particular race
2: racial prejudice or discrimination
so i'm going to throw it out there, which of these is he apparently perpetuating

I'm not sure how much clearly I can express the fact that "I dont think anyone here is particularly stupid" than saying it outright, but apparently I'll still be accused of ad hominems because that's a convenient way to attack someone's credibility.
Alas .
And actually, people have been trying to tell me that this argument isn't about whether Destiny is racist or not, which is what I've been arguing against from the outset. So, in a way, it seems you agree with me, actually.

If you are offended by Destiny, don't support him. There's no point in trying to make a civilian arrest on the guy. As a community, our job is to bring these issues to light, not to fix them. Quantic will fix them if deemed necessary just like EG did with Orb.
Again, to be explicitly clear, do not support him if you find him offensive. There isn't really a case that the community is enabling this behavior because when it becomes too much, sponsors and team will react. Orb had barely spent any time working with them before this went down. I don't know how you could look at that and say it's a good thing. Their hand wasn't "forced" by reddit and others. That decision was to be made regardless. The additional complaints and emails for an issue such as this do FAR more harm than good. Again, it's not the community's job to fix these issues. Who in their right freaking mind JUSTIFIES hate speeches? Whether they occur on the internet or in real life is completely irrelevant. Hate speeches shouldn't be tolerated where-ever they happen to take place.

Really man, why even post that?

The issue of racial slurs is so far perpetuated in modern society, that you can't fairly just form a giant internet lynch mob over one person's use of it in a game. The issue is racial slurs, not Destiny.

Yeah I agree the community should look down on him for this, however I think a lot of his fans are drawn to his rawness. Still it is pretty unprofessional. In the long run incidents like this are going to hurt the starcraft community's credibility.

I still don't get why people are so against contacting Quantic and\or their sponsors. You are basically a customer that is consuming a product. You don't like something about a product you go to the correct channels and tell them what you don't like and how that will affect your future consuming of said product.
I don't see the inmoral thing, if you want to support Destiny you can you know... contact Quantic and\or their sponsors and tell them what you like about their product.

why does it matter... being racist is a personal choice/disposition. everyone is entitled to their opinion also, for every stereotype there is a shred of truth
