We've gone over his credentials like 3-5 times in each year's thread and playoff thread. Every time people hold their original opinion, so history shows it doesn't matter. It's not cuz he lacks knowledge or basketball exp. He knows what he's talking about. This thread would be much more enjoyable if people just didn't speak what they don't know. This is in general, not directed towards you. | ||

In my, admittedly limited, time posting in this thread(hurr durr newbie), the stuff I've seen from Ace is definitely knowledgeable. However, to insinuate that anyone who thinks their opinion holds weight, because of reasons X, Y, and Z(assuming they're reasonably thought out, and supported), shouldn't bother posting, just because "Usually he's right." seems a little ridiculous to me. If you want a forum where only 6 people can post because they're the only ones who know anything about anything, why bother posting in a public thread with lots of random traffic? Elitism seems so tacky in a setting where so much of the content is very subjective. Not trying to knock Ace, he seems like a smart dude, but the elitism bugs me. And yes, I know, I can also go find another forum to post in, if it bothers me that much  | ||

Going into the series: Miami are underdogs. OKC's just too good, Durant is too good. After Game 1: Miami choked and blew a 17 pt lead on the road. OKCs offense is too good. Miami isn't clutch. After Game 2: Refs and Russel Westbrook cost OKC the game! Miami lucky to win! After tonight: OKCs youth held them back. They just aren't ready. Joey Crawford cost OKC the game. I say everyone is an "expert" after the facts because watching the NBA for an entire season nothing in this series is any different from the norm for these 2 teams. But the "clutch", "inexperience", and "refs" arguments once again come to the forefront when people have no idea what is actually going on. This goes more so to the media and "analysts" than anyone commenting on the game tonight because I haven't read the thread - yet | ||

But for example, last year's playoffs there were literally 20 pages devoted to how Derrick Rose is the chosen one to end all other teams..... completely underrating the defensive monster that Deng is and how the rest of that team contributes. Some people even claimed that Derrick Rose was the fastest player in the NBA....which evidence leans towards being false, an older guy like tony parker is faster than a lot of PGs as proven by the new tech cameras. Also people are just misinformed about stuff like PER and the complex clusterfuck that is using statistics in arguments. Lots just don't know how. For me, if I post in a sc2 forum, I will gladly read 6 pros discussing back and forth for 10 pages, then read 5000 random bronze/silver/diamond/master players give their perspective and experience. If Phil Jackson posted on TL I would literally skip every other post that was about the same topic he covered. It's just boring and filler to read random people's opinion. Also on TL, quality and elitism are pretty much enforced by mods so might as well get used to it. | ||

Don't disagree about preferring to read pro-player posts in BW/SC2, but the difference being, none of the "Great" posters here, are professional ball players, are they? So the comparison lacks some weight. That being said, I do the same sort of deal, I'd rather read a few quality posts than lots of random shit, but discounting someone's opinion in a subjective conversation because you haven't seen them post in the thread before is fairly ignorant. Final note, it's fine lol, it is what it is. I don't take forums as serious as some, just enjoy the conversation from time to time. ;p TL's elitism is nothing new to me, was just surprised to find it in the NBA thread of all places, lol. Edit: Besides, I don't really mind promoting elitism, but when the elite are incredibly condescending to anyone new to the scene, it hurts the scene in the long run. If you're a jackass (the only time Ace ever responded to something I said, it was condescending and abrasive, lol) to anyone new, how do you know if they may have something to contribute down the line if you're running them off immediately. If those that are now the elite, had been treated the same way, they may not even be around. | ||

When someone step far back away from the game and it look at it purely as a business, the players are just pawns making a profit for a small group. Doesn't matter to them if someone's feeling will be hurt (Lebron), or games being decided by factors other than skill (ref). | ||
