The subject of this thread is not a license to roll out your inaccurate, misinformed, poorly conceived, tired, and downright offensive theories about race relations.

i think the fact that he tried so hard to deny everything and make lame excuses is worse than his actual actions.

that kind of attitude from someone in EG is beyond pathetic.

I mean if he had manned up and just straight up apologised it wouldnt have been that much of a deal. Instead he makes a fool of himself by blatantly lying and then later blames the alcohol in his "apology" when his lies fall apart. It's either very sad or hilarious.

Honestly, who cares. He doesn't want to keep a "professional" image in his job, he gets fired. That happens to everyone in the real world. I don't think anyone's actually offended by seeing the words online though.

Holy shit why do people care so much about a few words some dude says on the internet? Christ, this is so insignificant. Please please please explain to me how this would affect anyone in real life. People get angry and then they say things to express it. That's it. Nothing more. If you're letting something as stupid as this keep you from enjoying the game and its community, you live a sad life and I hope you get your priorities in order.

Yeah because my feelings on whether or not it's appropriate for the people who are representing esports to the masses to hatefully use the words 'nigger' and 'faggot' is a direct representation of my lifes priorities.

It's so funny because the same people who say "it's just the internet, who cares!" are the same ones saying "support esports, make esports grow, we love esports!". You're on a site dedicated to StarCraft 2, Orb ( as sad as it is ) represents a huge orginzation that is vital to the growth of StarCraft and eSports in general. When he acts like the immature, raging, ignorant child that he is ( seriously why did they hire him ) it reflects horribly on both SC and eSports. If you can't understand that then I don't know what to say.

Do you think any of EG's sponsors would be happy about this? No. Do you think this is something that EG is happy about? No. Do you think that in the future when sponsors look at EG's past employees that this is something that is going to make them want to invest in them? No.

Uh, when orb is at home playing ladder games, that's his personal life. Nothing of that should be connected to his work. If you don't want to see him enjoying his free time, don't hunt him down, don't watch his stream.

Vysage, you get it. Thank you so freaking much. People aren't forced to watch his stream or hear his casts.

Just for the fun of it, I went to the search function on TeamLiquid and used these parameters:

Search Content: faggot
Search: Content Only
Username: IdrA

got something like 23 results from 22 threads.

If Orb DOES get fired, they better justify it via the "lying to management" part, and not the content part.

I'll even go as far as to quote IdrA here.

Nobody cares if you say "faggot" anymore. This shouldn't have even been drama in the first place, and I personally don't think Orb should have even had the chance to lie about this to someone.

Keep doing a great job of ruining great casters' opportunities Reddit. I vote you go for DJWheat next, he seems like a nice guy.

This thread doesn't need to exist. Casters should be recognized based on their level of analysis/entertainment factor, and having this stuff floating around is pointless and gives NOTHING to the community.

He never did this during his job and has never done that. He's done it on his personal stream, that though is bad aswell. However I think it's pathetic how people actually look around in his VODs just to find things like this, just to ruin it for him.

I don't think he'd ever do this again if EG put a leash on him.

Well, assuredly, I don't want to hear that kind of language, nor do I think it should have been used there.

However, I cannot condemn Orb. Personally, I have been in that situation (both sides) many times (but many times more on Orbs' side), and it is really damn frustrating have no direct way to vent your anger. I have called many people many bad names and bad things, and no game makes me more angry (sometimes, not all the time) than StarCraft II.

Orb is guilty of nothing more than being angry and incidentally being unprofessional several times on a public stream.

Oh, and by the way, the word "Nigger" isn't necessarily racist; it doesn't even imply that Orb might be or could be a racist. The only way to gleam a race-hateful connotation from this incident use of the word would be through a persons own interpretation.

Like other people have said, its stupid what he said and that he denied it. But that said people rage on ladder / stream a lot and say all kinds of dumb things it doesn't mean they are a racist (or bigot, insensitive, etc. depending on what words they use) and it shouldn't make him lose his job. The reddit witchhunts are getting annoying soon there will be noone left in Esports...

Not sure you guys should be downplaying this unless you're black. Regardless of how right or wrong you think it is, this reeks of unprofessionalism and makes orb look pretty bad.

Best post in the thread. This thread really doesn't need to exist, and I have no idea why it's been allowed to be open for 40+ pages. If anything, it's a matter between Orb and EG.

I hope he doesn't get fired for being an asshat in his personal life, which is what I view his playing ladder games as. Watching the EGMCSL, he's a really good caster. I've enjoyed his work, he's not crazy racist or anything there, and I think that a simple apology should be enough. I hope EG doesn't get enough negative PR that they feel like they need to fire him for this. It sucks that he lied, but he paniced, he loves what he does and didn't want to lose that. I don't condone his actions, but I don't condone this fucking witch hunt either.

I don't think IdrA has called anyone a nigger, ever. That's judged by society (fairly or not) to be much worse. He knows not to cross that line, but orb did.

If they kick orb, they should kick IdrA, IMO. Can't have those double standards dangling around. ^^

Idra isn't racist. I don't remember he writing personal offenses in game chat, he always complaing about cheesing/other races, no big deal there.

I hope you realize that "faggot" is just as unacceptable as "nigger," as are phrases telling the person on the other end they're worthless shits and deserve to die. Not to mention his BM of Cruncher and statements about his weight, which many people here (probably pitchforking orb even in this thread) laughed at. And IdrA did all this while on EG's roster, and they haven't kicked him.

Randomly, I really hope it wasn't this drama that crashed TL for a couple minutes there ... :/

Yeah, but the differance is that Idra's BM makes EG money. He brings attention to EG and whatever negative publicity comes with these statements is just written off as Idra being Idra. It is a horrible double standard for I can almost guarantee you that Orb will be punished in some pay. However, if you think that these doublestandards are unfair then you need to voice your displeasure. Otherwise, Orb's remarks will eventually just be construed as Orb being Orb. Really, it's just up to community to establish what is acceptable language/behavior/

Thanks.

I imagine it's more likely he'll be fired for lying, which fanned the flames. He should've just sat down, apologized for getting mad sometimes, and said that he'll try harder in the future not to let it get to him. If they fire him, I'll be pissed if they say they did it 'cause he called someone a "nigger" on ladder, not for lying. -.-

Ugh, this community sometimes. Ruins another great caster.

Playing games on ladder is a personal matter, not a public matter, and should not be in any way related to what you do in your esports professional activities, because it's not a professional activity in itself. Obviously Orb is nether racist, nor homophobic, he just reaches for whatever derogatory word comes to mind when he wants to offend a stranger on the ladder.

The further accusation of him "trying to cover it up", I have no idea if it's true, but seriously if it was true - it's also not that shocking. Orb has a history of being very vulnerable to personal accusations, to the point that he really becomes extremely defensive and loses his calm.

Above all, Orb is the best single (non-tandem) SC2 caster in the world; his style of casting is very polished and professional, his understanding of the game and in-depth analysis is at the level of only Artosis and active progamers. He is a very intelligent person, with the odd flip-side that he can be verbally offensive on ladder. That part about him is not new, he's always been famous about it, and people have been teasing him about it since beta. It complements perfectly his otherwise highly professional behavior, and frankly is just a personal matter of his, and shouldn't be for the public to control.

He was put in a professional position and lied to EG about his raging past. It is a public matter when the public knows about it. It would be the same as if a newscaster did the same thing and it was filmed at a bar or public event. It may have not been for the world to see but the world did see it and he will be punished accordingly.

OMG "lied about his raging past".
Sir (pulls down shades) you've been convicted of a rage crime. Come with us....

Also people please quit saying Orb is racist! You're all retarded if you think he is actually racist (just as I would be if thought you were all literally retarded)
TL is starting to make me as sick a the reddit community...

Take Person A:
He doesn't say anything.

Person B:
Uses the word nigger.

Who is it safer to assume is racist? Are people retarded for thinking Person B is racist? I would think him using that word ups his chance for being an actual racist. So I fail to see how people are retarded who assuming he is racist when he uses a word associated with racism.

people are just waiting for any opportunity to ruin for others, most of the people who are complaining probably don't care and use the word themselves

regardless, this is still pretty embarassing for orb
