The subject of this thread is not a license to roll out your inaccurate, misinformed, poorly conceived, tired, and downright offensive theories about race relations.

You cant really compare this and Katu because Katu was at the workplace when he decided to start insinuating that Dragon was cheating. Orb never called anyone a N-word during an EG cast

Who cares, racial and homophobic slurs are a part of everyday life. Seriously this community is dramatizes so many things. Destiny uses "nigger" on stream all the time, yet I don't see people constantly new threads to disparage him.
EG and their disciplinary action is another story altogether.

Everyday life. Thats controlled by one organisation or another. Try and make a post here thats full of n-words and other slurs. See how long it will take you to get banned. Go on the street and yell it for a couple of minutes, or if you're lucky; shout it once to see a reaction. If you want your own community, go stream like destiny and create one with your own rules. Orb wouldn't have this topic if he was simply a individual streamer associated with no-one.

But he is, and everybody is curious to see what his linked employers will do in an effort to distance themselves from this topic and the ones on reddit. Apparently their market audience thinks this is a big thing.

I can't believe so many people are saying it doesn't matter. I personally don't care what language Orb (or anyone for that matter) decides to use on stream but it looks bad on EG and offends a lot of people and that is why it matters. Imagine if a movie star like George Clooney said, "yeah this guy was pulling some dumb nigger shit on me earlier" while at a restaurant and everyone at the restaurant heard what he said. Do you think he'd ever get a movie role again? Most likely not. Just because it's in your free time doesn't mean it should be excused. Add that to the fact that Orb lied to management and you have something even worse.

Idra isn't racist. I don't remember he writing personal offenses in game chat, he always complaing about cheesing/other races, no big deal there.

Orb isn't racist and if you actually think he is then your a dumb ass.

I don't think that he's really racist, but he does racist comments, that's enough. lol

So basically, he used offensive words, lied about doing it and tried to cover it up by deleting the VOD.

Seems quite bad.

Yeah, if orb were open about it EG would be able to do damage control properly. Now he's put EG in a bad situation and nobody's gonna pay for it but him.

Ya i agree with this. If he was honest with EG from the begining it would have been better, but now he has put EG is a very bad spot since they backed him to begin with and a company like EG doesnt want to be assosiate with this drama.

Because you can't let people say whatever they want when they represent sponsors and are viewed by thousands of eyes, there are plenty of black people that get upset at a negative use of the word nigger and PLENTY of gay people who will get upset when people use the word faggot, this stuff isn't accepted on main stream television and if esports is to grow it can't be accepted when said by growing pillars of the community.

Guess what, when he's playing a ladder game, he's not representing shit. He's not casting games, he's not doing his job, he's playing around like you and me. You can't tell me that he doesn't have the right to express himself freely when he's on his free time. If you're getting offended, it's because you're hunting orb down on his free time. Otherwise you'd never see it.

Clearly you have never held a job or know what you are responsible for when having a job. He was still representing something even if he isn't casting games. I thought everyone understood how that worked...

I'm black, and not offended, but I do wonder why when he searches for a bad word "dumb nigger" is the one that comes to mind. What informs that decision? You can't tell in context. When he searches for which word, why that one? Because he believes it to be offensive?

I think people who are drawing the "what's worse, X or using the word" it's a false argument. Both can be behaviors that are bad.

It is however dismaying at times to see how prevalent the word has become on the internet. See how many news articles that feature blacks on CNN for example are filled with filthy comments. It is disheartening because you can not tell what informs the decisions of those people. How much of it is trolling/rage/etc and how much of it is real? Without context, Orb has availed himself of the same dilemma...why that choice, what informed it?

Personally I don't think an apology is necessary, he was trying to be offensive by using offensive words. I may wonder why he used those particular ones (what has drawn that association of concepts in his mind) but you just shrug your shoulders when you get on the net and get used to it.

Playing games on ladder is a personal matter, not a public matter, and should not be in any way related to what you do in your esports professional activities, because it's not a professional activity in itself. Obviously Orb is nether racist, nor homophobic, he just reaches for whatever derogatory word comes to mind when he wants to offend a stranger on the ladder.

The further accusation of him "trying to cover it up", I have no idea if it's true, but seriously if it was true - it's also not that shocking. Orb has a history of being very vulnerable to personal accusations, to the point that he really becomes extremely defensive and loses his calm.

Above all, Orb is the best single (non-tandem) SC2 caster in the world; his style of casting is very polished and professional, his understanding of the game and in-depth analysis is at the level of only Artosis and active progamers. He is a very intelligent person, with the odd flip-side that he can be verbally offensive on ladder. That part about him is not new, he's always been famous about it, and people have been teasing him about it since beta. It complements perfectly his otherwise highly professional behavior, and frankly is just a personal matter of his, and shouldn't be for the public to control.

He was put in a professional position and lied to EG about his raging past. It is a public matter when the public knows about it. It would be the same as if a newscaster did the same thing and it was filmed at a bar or public event. It may have not been for the world to see but the world did see it and he will be punished accordingly.

OMG "lied about his raging past".
Sir (pulls down shades) you've been convicted of a rage crime. Come with us....

Also people please quit saying Orb is racist! You're all retarded if you think he is actually racist (just as I would be if thought you were all literally retarded)
TL is starting to make me as sick a the reddit community...

Yeah because my feelings on whether or not it's appropriate for the people who are representing esports to the masses to hatefully use the words 'nigger' and 'faggot' is a direct representation of my lifes priorities.

It's so funny because the same people who say "it's just the internet, who cares!" are the same ones saying "support esports, make esports grow, we love esports!". You're on a site dedicated to StarCraft 2, Orb ( as sad as it is ) represents a huge orginzation that is vital to the growth of StarCraft and eSports in general. When he acts like the immature, raging, ignorant child that he is ( seriously why did they hire him ) it reflects horribly on both SC and eSports. If you can't understand that then I don't know what to say.

Do you think any of EG's sponsors would be happy about this? No. Do you think this is something that EG is happy about? No. Do you think that in the future when sponsors look at EG's past employees that this is something that is going to make them want to invest in them? No.

Uh, when orb is at home playing ladder games, that's his personal life. Nothing of that should be connected to his work. If you don't want to see him enjoying his free time, don't hunt him down, don't watch his stream.

Just what this community needs, more drama.

I have mixed feelings about all this, personally. I thought Orb was a decent caster, and I was kinda glad he was starting to make a name for himself. This might be "career (to what extent he had a career) ending." I think people need to remember that. This will probably remove all this guy's hard work for the past year or so in the SC2 scene, because of a few words.

On the other hand, I always knew Orb was a rager and a phoney. Anyone who has watched his stream since his early days would know this. It always sort of irritated me that he would act nice and professional when he was doing something for a big audience, but when you look at his stream it is just his asshole self. He always had an attitude problem, and I guess he is paying for it now.

So I guess he sort of deserves it?

Everyone rages on the internet, cause you can get away from it. But the people who should be upset are fans of EG. Because we should ask ourselves do we really want someone who appears to be a liar part of the team we love? The big thing that bugs me is that fact that it appears he lied. I would be cool if he came out and said "I have anger issues."

Please don't give me that bullshit about "killing Esports" also, most people hate/don't listen to Orb anyways.

the sentiment from most people seems to be when you represent yourself you can do what you like and people can take it or leave it, but when you represent an organisation you have to be a lot more careful in how you act.

i dont see the need to attempt to hurt EG for this. even if you feel they should let him go (if they dont) or you feel they shouldnt (if they do) atleast wait for them to say something before hurr try and lose them money.

Look, if it was a pro player playing a tournament/showmatch, I would say that they deserve to get flamed for this kind of stuff. This is a freaking private match. He's playing around like every other ladder junkie out there. It's no longer his job, it's mainly for fun, so there are no sponsors...

I don't think you've been around here long then

It's more like I don't watch second-rate pro players that often...
Somebody link me to a Destiny-hate thread about "niggers" then

They're all in the Closed section, where this thread should be.
