This really describes the situation in which we are. We live in a world where people start throwing cuss words to each other when they are losing in a game... It's a game where you shall have fun and enjoy playing it, but so many can't handle losing. No matter what kind of words are used, allthough in this case it's even more harsh. Orb really shows that he is not one of the intelligent players, or even good people.
A losing player can rage, but don't rage towards your opponent, rather look inside a mirror and rage towards yourself...
I really love Koreans, becaus they know how to behave and they even have a sense of honor. But raging people don't even know what the word honor means.
Good post.

Secondly! Orb, you are representing now a team that has amazing sponsors and an unbelievable organisation behind it. Your words now directly reflect EG and their sponsors. And shit! Don't keep somebody around who may turn off potential sponsors and brands due to one dickhead. I don't care if it is done on stream or only on ladder or only at LAN parties, if word gets around that you are a bigot or an internet trash talking bigot then MANY companies and brands would not touch that with a ten foot poll.
Lastly! I agree with the outcry because hell, look at the FGC. They had a serious asshole step up and completely paint a negative picture of their community whether they liked it or not. What did they do about it? Fuck all. They sounded and looked like apathetic, whiney and DUMB kids in my opinion. Don't let the SC2 community, EVER, be represented by somebody who does not represent us at all in the slightest.
Do I think that he should be shunned from professional casting? Meh, not my call. But do I think that anybody who wants to be put in the spotlight, yet conducts themselves in a way that hurts our community image should be allowed to continue representing us? Nope!
Thanks xD :D Please open a history book, or learn some latin. Please please before you go on making such stupid unfounded statements. Sorry? You tell me what they refer to now then... If I walk down areas of Toronto that are openly "gay villages" and I say OH HEY A FAGGOT! Peoples heads will turn and it will be extremely obvious what I am saying.... Oh sorry bro I was talking about that twig over there.. Seriously? Get a fucking clue. FUCK! You're a dumb piece of shit. Get a fucking clue. There are gay communities out there who condone and even liberally use the word "fag" and "faggot" amongst themselves, just like how there are AA communities and speakers of AAE who use the word "nigger" as an endearing term.

I just don't see that. People who infer from these situations, that orb is a racist are wrong imo. I am convinced that he wrote that word, because raging is about venting, it's about throwing shit at the world (and writing stuff in a video game is a very modest way, when it comes to that), so you can feel better. He most likely said that word, BECAUSE he thinks it's wrong. It's extremely exihalarating to do forbidden things and saying the word 'nigger' is about the most forbidden thing, when it comes to swearing. Doesn't make it less stupid to say it in the first place, but please don't call him racist because of it. (And for racism in general, I very much like to think that Morgan Freeman got it right.) What irritates me more is the fact that he seemingly lied about it. An honest approach may have been more advisable, but for us, who aren't closely connected it's easy to write this, it's very much harder to do I guess when you are caught up a situation like this yourself. He has to face the consequences and I am sure EG will find a good solution to this. In fact I don't think they should 'fire' him (I don't really know on what basis EG and orb are working together right now), if they see the possibility of him doing better in the future. I think he should be given the chance to make up for it, if he can convince the EG management that he is willing to change and work on this.
doesn't matter if he does it towards rage, nigger is insulting to african american people, as faggot is to gays; doesn't necessarily make him a racist but it disrespects the race

I am so happy to see Orb burn
I've hated the way he holds himself since the first time I watched his stream. He move commanded his sentries into his opponents base and blamed blizzard for making small maps
Then he played like shit and said "wtf is this, I'm playing like a mid-masters player"
..... You are a mid-masters player dude, as much as you think you're pro
Someone as immature as him has no place in the public eye, representing e-sports. Anyone that isn't in-tune with esports is likely to automatically assume it's a bunch of immature kids playing video games, and people like him do NOTHING to teach the masses otherwise
Good Riddance

Racism is serious. But maybe he said "nigger" just as a curse word, not really to be racist. Retard, faggot are used as well constantly. I don't see the difference with nigger tbh.
99% of the people who use faggot aren't homo haters. Probably around the same for people who use nigger?

The typical person in this thread is not for him to be fired. I'll bet most of them are not even up in arms about Orb specifically. I personally am more offended by the large number of TL posters who are claiming that its perfectly okay and normal to use this kind of language.

Yeah this is so ridiculous...they should cut off his penis and paint him black so he can actually feel how it is to be a tranny-nigga himself!

Lol but that slur isn't offensive among AA people, its only when an outside race uses it with a bad connotation as Orb did, saying he's stupid thus comparing him to a "nigger"

I don't get why people are making such a big deal out of this. Its LADDER. LADDER. Seriously.

How the hell is this NOT a big deal? A homophobic professional caster using racial slurs sounds like something that needs to be addressed by the community.

The more disturbing thing to me than this language is how EG has responded to this and how other teams have responded to situations in the same vein - whether it be poor behavior or players being dropped from their team. When people express their disgust with the parties involved and actively say they won't buy from team sponsors and will even contact these sponsors - teams (EG in this case) pull the "you're hurting eSports card". That's not ok. You don't get a get-out-of-jail free card for racism/cutting support for players by saying that.
Getting away from that in general and focusing on this situation, I find it bizarre that Alex Garfield accuses people of hurting the scene by actively and aggressively seeking to make orb and EG feel the impact of orb's behavior. They are not the ones hurting the scene. The racism and inappropriate actions by somebody representing sponsors is hurting the scene. If you want people to buy from sponsors being advertised by your players and members, you damn well better be prepared to have people boycott/notify these sponsors when those players and members are going around calling people "niggers" and "faggots'.
If you don't want your organizations actions to reflect on how people treat your sponsors, then don't accept any sponsorships. The instant Company X is backing you and you are behaving in an inappropriate manner, it is not only the right but the duty of the fan/consumer/supporter to express their disapproval to the organization and its sponsors.
Fans being upset with your representatives calling people "niggers" is not what is hurting the scene. Sponsored representatives of teams calling people "niggers" is hurting the scene. So EG, stop hurting eSports. Stop hurting the scene. And stop blaming others when you do it.

This whole thing is just a friggin witch hunt. It began with the stuff about Katu from Playhem, now that he is gone, you guys need a new target and now orb is in your scope. Just great.
I want to ask just one question: What do you guys want? That no one wants to become a caster anymore, because from the moment he recieves some attention he has to behave like a friggin PC-superhuman and has to fear that everything he has done in the past might be brought up against him?! Hurray. Great attitude.
EG will probably kick him now, i suppose which means his casting carreer is basically over, because he won't be hired from any major events for sure.
And the community lost another promising and relatively good performing caster. Well done, community. Well done.

Totally agree. Where the hell did people's sense of courtesy and respect go?
|
Are we still waiting for a statement from EG? People who are saying that it's not a big deal should really think about it. This is a guy who's supposed to be a "professional" caster. On top of all he lied about it several times and only apologized when he got caught. Pathetic.
more lulz from reddit: Orb to give Slayers'Jessica PR lessons

I don't really care about his useage of the words. But moreso that he actually lied to the community and especially to Team EG when there were proofs. That's just unacceptable and in a lot of jobs you would get fired for lieing to your boss about a decently serious issue.
|
WTF, first that guy talking about Dragon and now orb raging on ladder?
The quality of drama on TL has taken a nosedive.
|
hahaha, I used to watch his stream a lot last year and this is exactly what it was.
But I doubt EG would kick Orb right now, he is probably walking on thin ice after this but the guy has become quite the caster, and this will be all forgotten in a few days.
Or I at least hope EG is smart enough to not care too much about the fickle /r/starcraft crowd, because they will be losing one hell of an opportunity with orb :p
|
I like how orb lives in the house now, and there's people actually looking through vods dating months back to where he used the N word that got him Non Featured. It's just little kids overreacting just like the Dragon incident. So please EG, don't listen to the 40 year old people on Reddit or TL.
