Hey this would discriminate in favour of female homosexual couples and against male homosexual couples, how unfair is that. LESBIANS GET DOUBLE THE DISCOUNT

Chill relax your being douche try to set an example for ppl -.-.

That said on the matter of selling discounted tickets to women - it would be more of a long term investment into the popularity of e-sports then anything else and I am not sure that is one of MLGs key interests. It would be a loss in the meantime assuming MLG normally sells out (I don't know).

By that logic, they should be reducing the costs of any group of people who were stereotypically stingy- as those would be the targeted groups who would come to MLG *if only the prices were lower*.

Oh my ... how often should i say it: COST AND EFFORT.
So you somewhat imply that they should offer special offers to handicapped, gays etc. but did you ever looked up how many females are living on our planet and compared it to other "groups"?

::blinks::

Handicaps and gays are stingy? What?

And oh my gosh there are far more insects than females, so we should only charge $1 per insect ticket. (Most insects enjoy Zerg; most females don't give a shit about SC2. See what I did there?)

Take a cheap, largely-feminine event that guys usually don't go to. And now lower the price even more. How does that give men an incentive to go?

It doesn't. Men who are already interested in that event will go regardless of whether a ticket to that event is 10 or 15 dollars. Or they'll already be going because they're being dragged along by their girlfriends. But the idea of cheaper tickets doesn't change the fact that the overwhelming majority wouldn't want to go anyway.

Now just switch around the genders and BAM you have StarCraft 2. You're welcome.

If opera or ballet tickets dropped from $30 to $20 (although I hear they can be much more), I wouldn't be any more likely to go. MLG and other tournaments are not super-pricey. It's not like a huge number of women wanted to go but couldn't afford tickets. If there's a way to increase this target audience (women), it's not through making tickets cheaper.

Im totally with you. But as far as my expierence with business and companies goes. MLG would rather like to search a bigger venue when sold out and attract even more. But yea, if they are fine with their earnings and audience (in terms of numbers) it would be a loss of investment. Thats why I said that this should be discussed by MLG's business analysts (would also invovle alot of business strategy and vision).

And oh my gosh there are far more insects than females, so we should only charge $1 per insect ticket. (Most insects enjoy Zerg; most females don't give a shit about SC2. See what I did there?)
Now THAT is discremenation.
Do they really dont give a shit? Or is there some social-hindrance and sub-culture which makes them believe they should better not give a shit? On what do you base the fact that they don't like SC2?
My gf sometimes watch it with me, she just don't like to play it.

What MLG really needs to do is make 100 Boxer clones to work at the event venues and hundreds of thousands of ladies will immediately flood in even if they have to pay double the original ticket price.

You guys are being sexist. I could understand doing group discounts but not discounts based on gender. That is sexist and total bs!

Yeah, no.

Sure, its cool if more girls go to MLG's but blatant gender discrimination is ridiculous. People should enjoy the events they choose to attend. Maybe the MLG should bring out more girl oriented entertainment? Should they? I'd say no. But as with everything, it's debatable.

Lowering ticket prices for females does not necessarily correlate into more females buying tickets and attending an event. A drop in price isn't going to attract a different demographic alone. If MLG is interested in getting more females to MLG events then there are much better ways to attract a female crowd then merely lowering the price of a female ticket. Ads specifically targeted to women, on websites that receive lots of female traffic, would arguably reach much more female eyes than lowering prices. If MLG lowered prices by $10, the only females who would even notice are those who were already interested in going. I don't think it makes any sense to assume that females are going to look at an MLG that they previously weren't interested in and then change their mind based on a price decrease. Making more female friendly events and areas at an MLG, and making the event more female friendly in general, would be a much better route to take if this is something MLG is interested in.

But I guess that's just my opinion.

I really don't feel like girls would want to feel like they're being treated differently when they're already a clear minority at the events. Give it some time, by the end of this year, there will be ALOT more female fans attending MLGs than we've seen so far.

Totally nailed it. I think at an early age, parents work hard to beat the micro out of females.

You're joking, right? My girlfriend doesn't mind the StarCraft scene when I talk about it, and she's even occasionally played BW and SC2 with me, but any person (regardless of gender) is going to experience social hindrances and sub-cultures. Perhaps a cross-gender-stereotype jump might be more difficult, but the push that a girl would need to go to a gaming tournament would not be to make the tickets a little bit cheaper. That's utterly ridiculous, sexist, and there's no reason or data to even suggest such a thing.

Shouldnt your girlfriend just be a good sport and support you? Why does a discounted ticket matter? The situation would have played out the same. Your girlfriend isnt going to act differently based on her ticket price. Either she should be a good sport, and try to help in your enjoyment, or dont bring her if shes being a downer...

I think the onus is on you guys to make the best of it, not on MLG.

Thanks for your very thoughtfull input Would liek to read more of such comments.
I can agree to alot of what you say. It wouldn't be enough to just drop prices. It would typically involve standard marketing to get the attention of the targetgroup you want to introduce to your product.
And what i really want to emphazize is that the OP never stated that his "concept" would be the perfect but in general he is on the right track.
What you are missing is the fact that there might be a lot of females who were thinking about going there but in the end decide to not base on the spending. And as I stated before; attracting those is important to grow the awarness and acceptance of eSports which will then correlate in way more audience(of different demographic gropus).

I think what a lot of you have failed to consider is that every person who enters the event is a potential consumer of food and drink. Furthermore, every person who enters the event is BOMBARDED with advertisements. I bet Dr. Depper would be willing to sponsor a "ladies pass" if it meant getting more women to view their signs, and more women to walk around the building carrying their beverage.

Tickets to the event are pretty affordable, even if you want to drag around your lady friend.

Same. I don't get all the herps and derps from those guys.
"I want to herped the same way as everyone else gets derped." wtf?
You guys really are THAT ignorant? No wonder no females want to particpate in such a horrible community.

That sounds like sexism

It is. Terrible idea that should not be promoted in esports. we dont need to copy societys sexism.

Rofl what? Do you really live in germany? Liebe Leserinnen und Leser. Liebe Lehrerinnen und Lehrer. Liebe Elterinnen und Eltern. Who would argue that this is sexism really has a problem with his on sexlife i guess.
That has NOTHING to do with sexism. Otherwise you could also argue that building things for handicapped is discrimination ....
If thats what u call ethics, im sure we will all burn in hell.

So what does different names have to do with actually treating people different beacuse of their sex, when it isn't necessary?
To even bring handicap is just silly, and I hope you know it and is just trolling.

Erm as it seems you toally don't get a bit of my references so why comment on it?
And no I am not trolling, having a handicapped mother, i appreciate every institution which supports them.
So why did I mention it? Because it is some mordern-retardness to claim discrimination because something/one gets treated different than you are. THERE IS a freakin right to do that if it has some based argument to do so.
Or am I discriminated as a smoker because i need to smoke outside? Hell no.

So explain in englis so we can understand then.

And this is not retardness, it is really not necessay. Smoking is another bad example, as it is a danger to others.

He argumented in "gendering" which is a practice of writing basically Doctor and "Doctoress" when referring to the job "Doctor". It's really retarded but apparently promotes equality.

What i said several posts before: eSports is one of the few sports which SHOULDN'T be labeld as male-dominant. But yet we have the mark to be. So you need to work against it. How? By marketing.

It's really retarded but apparently promotes equality.

Need to comment on this: To differ between gender doesn't promote equality.

While the idea of a female discount is hilariously bad and offensive (even more, perhaps, to the gay community because they're ignored all together,) they could do something like a 1 day spectator pass for $15 to accomodate those situations. That's about the cost of taking someone to the movies. Save yourself an extra $10 for 2 footlong subs from Subway.

There, I just created the first MLG Date package.
