We play even less SC2 in China than in Korea.

That's great but contrary to what you think China isn't the whole world.

Combine all those countries and it's still far less than what BW is in korea.

That's besides the point. Even if SC2 die tomorrow, BW's glory days won't come back. The viewership that tune in to StarCraft 2 today will just move on to the mobas or the MMOs.

I am still awe struck that nearly two years in, TL is still having this conversation. BW is downsizing because of reasons other than the sequel, a decline that begun in 2005 or so that hasn't reversed its course. So stop.

Remember BW fans, the site you spent your time hating on SC2 fans on is bankrolled by SC2 fans.

Whose hating sc2 fans ? I will support any sc2 fan as long they acknowledge that broodwar is the one which start the ball rolling for their awesome game . As long proleague is kicking , I will never stop watching broodwar .

Um... what? First, I don't see anyone denying that a game with a fucking 2 on its title comes from the success of a previous game. Second, why is that so important for you?

Yes, Boxer, July and Nada were complete failures at BW.

there are a few exceptions. also forgg was good. BUT, the current scene is FULL of the not-so-good ones...MC for example. obviously there are a FEW exceptions, but then we see that these players are not on the top of their game...also boxer hasn't been a full-time player, nada has been opening up his store etc, but yeah i guess if you want you can say the sc2 pro scene is full of bonjwa's if you want to.

name me more than 5 people who were good at sc1 and now play sc2 ?

july nada boxer forgg ?

WC3 is so fr up the charts for that stupid Naruto mod they play...like seriously I walked into a PC room once and 20 computers were playing the same game -.-

However I did start to see more people play SC2 before I came back! SC1 is so popular because for kids they don't need ID cards to make accounts so that makes it easier....also Koreans in general think that SC2 is too hard and they don't want to play it...however when they play a little bit they enjoy it

Someone should put up a poll and keep a score in this thread of what side is in the lead argument wise between SC1 and SC2.

EDIT. what, Warcraft3 has a Naruto mod? holy shit must download and try it, sounds awesome!

Because in all PC bangs you dont need to pay separately for MMORPG games and obviously wc3,LOL, sc1 is free. While u gotta pay for your sc2 account so basically in order to play sc2. In pc bang u gotta first purchase sc2 then hourly rate. Isnt it obvious why sc2 is not on the list LOL?. Im sure most sc2 users play the game from home.

Well, then it is understandable.

It's a real shame blizzard's killed popularity in korea by restricting the game's usage in PC bangs. I am yet to see sc2 being playing in a net cafe here, the stats are hardly surprising. If you can't get enough grass roots support here then it's never going to take off in terms of mainstream sponsors the way BW did (other than blizzard) and it shows in the studio crowds.

The expansion won't change anything. I feel SC2 on free to air TV would help alot, Gom just doesn't cut it here. OGN is a must at some point if you want to reach a bigger fanbase.

GOMTV is watched in over 180 countries, and MLG in 175. I'd rather SC2 to win in 174 countries and fail in 1, than win in 1 and fail in 174.

^ this.

Maybe SC2 won't become the new eSport to look for in Korea but maybe it will become THE eSport to look for in way more countries in the western scene in the future. I wouldn't mind that much tbh.

We play even less SC2 in China than in Korea.

That's great but contrary to what you think China isn't the whole world.

He put up more precise information than you did at least.

Go read the statistics of MLG and then come back.

To be fair to the OP as some seem to be doubting the validity of his PC Bang ranking...

I found a south korean ranking of the most searched games a few months back, and it was pretty much the same as his PC Bang list, minus WC3/SC1 etc. for obvious reasons (they aren't new games so not searched about recently) and SC2 was also absent from this list, and I believe it was ranked up to 12 spots. Just to clarify that although SC2 could potentially be doing well, it's still well out of the top 10 range in terms of popularity.

I don't know if you're being sarcastic or not, but China obviously isn't the whole world, especially when it comes to developed demographics, which is what we're talking about when discussing eSports.
