Still,BW is much more popular than SC2...
[Fomos content not allowed on TL]
BW proleague yongsan e-stadium.
korea game PCbang ranking chart.(by http://www.gametrics.com/) 1.aion 2.sudden attack 3.fifa online2 4.warcraft3 5.starcraft1 6.dungeon&fighter 7.lineage1 8.maple story 9.league of legends 10.world of warcraft
If HOTS(SC2 expansion) release, the situation might be better?
|
pretty interesting..but starcraft 2 is still relatively new compared to other games on that last which have been around for much longer. give it some times and im sure in 2012/2013 starcraft will easily be in that top 10
|
i wouldn't say "failed"....

A chart with Sudden Attack and Fifa Online 2 in it doesn't mean anything. And isn't this obvious? SC2 is enjoying the international popularity though (which is, imo, better).
|
interesting! Thanks for this .. I wonder if HOTS will be to BW as Wings of Liberty is to StarCraft 1 vanilla..? ^^
|
6.dungeon&fighter
Won't lie, I enjoy myself some DFO quite a bit. :>
|
it hasnt exactly "failed" and when BW pros start switching over it will get better
also its more importatnt that sc2 grows in the west since if a game is really big only in one country it will slowly die (sounds familiar?)
|
BW has failed too, Warcraft 3 is higher ranked than it.

I was going to say something but then I realized where you're from :p

I don't think anyone would disagree.
Also, don't matter.
|
Aion is actually popular in South Korea? Holy shit.
|
Too earlier to say failed. SC1 was such a cultural and traditional phenomenon that the turnout thus far for sc2 is to be expected. You simply cant expect people to switch over right away when BW is so meaningful to so many people. While I wouldn't even describe sc2 as a failure by any means, just wait until some of the BW progamers switch over.
|
Failed is too strong a word, i think its more appropriate to say it didnt 'blow up'.

5 esports dollars says he got offended without getting the reference :D

Good thread, deserves to live because of the intelligence discussion it will generate I think that you should post when more Americans are using these forums, as the discussion will start sooner!
|
i'd say too early as well, sc2 has been around for 1½ year bw, 10+ years lol. Can't compare yet...
|
if all the koreans changed from bw to sc2 then they would once again dominate the scene, be thankful that the masses havent changed.

The quality of games in in general so far is just pretty questionable to justify watching for people that watched BW for a long time. Before I was one of those that watched every GSL game religiously but lately I just realized that the majority of the games are not really worth it,its better to just find out which ones are really good and than go back to watch them. That being said I followed pretty much every game of the PL this season so far and not all games were min blowingly good, half of the games were pretty bad the other half were good and than there were like a few OMGAIFADAWODWDQWIB games. I'm not a Korean but from what I understand and what people told me,Koreans in general are just starting to gravitate more towards MMOs and stuff like that and RTS games are just taking up less and less of their interest.

hi, random korean netizen trying to stir shit up.
포모스에서 왔냐? 스2갤에서 왔냐? 이딴글 올리려는 목적은 뭔데?
bw will be much more popular than sc2 simple because there is an entrenched userbase + fanbase that sees no reason to change.
if the existing proteams switch over/add sc2 to their repertoire, expect sc2's popularity to also go up.
you think most of the fans are going to the games to appreciate the strategy and mechanics shown off? no, not really. they're there to see handsome bisu win and give them a smile. they're there to see kt win. they don't care if bisu's playing bw, sudden attack, street fighter, sc2, whatever.
|
tank you for telling us that...
|
Good to know, but i don't care. Starcraft 2 doesn't need Korea, simple as that.

Probably not, we'll get a surge of amateurs trying to go pro, but in terms of audiences... I don't think HotS plays as big of a role as time, marketing and general publicity. On the bright side, SC2 is steadily growing in viewership so it probably won't be a "failure" forever.
|
Of course it has failed. All the players in sc:bw is still there. If they wont change then their fans wont either. Its a chicken and egg problem. And as long as sc:bw is played at the level and compition as it is now ik SK the fanswont change. But its big everywhere else so why does it matter? SK is irrelevant in everyway other than talent base.

well you gotta stir shit otherwise it'll become rocky and hard and you can't flush it.

you're kidding.

This isn't exactly new information. Its been known that SC2 hasn't done very well in Korea, for better or for worse.
As long as there isn't a mass exodus of ex-BW players switching over any time soon, it should be good. Otherwise they'll just stomp all competition we have right now and they'll take foreigner money if they're sent over here. At least we have a decent shot against the Koreans now.
But whatever, we'll see what happens.

then you have to call in the plumbers.... plumbing in korea is notoriously weak btw

this guy for sure is a fan of bw and anti-fan of sc2.

Koreans obviously have terrible taste in games if they play Aion and Sudden attack the most. :/
