Oh this would be so awesome... official start of the gamescom would be tomorrow, but such an event would gather extremly much attentieon.

It depends on where you live. In sweden you can easily live in a 1 room apartment, pay your bills and still have a small buffert on that kind of money. It's not great but it works.

Is this the real life? Is this just fantasy? Caught in a landslide, no escape from reality. Open your eyes, look up to the skies and seeee. I'm just a poor boy, I need no sympathy. Because I'm easy come, easy go a little high, little low. Anyway the wind blows, doesn't really matter to me

What would you be spending your salary on with no family to feed? If you live in team house that is covered, Im not sure if foodis covered but if it isnt then thats about only thing you would have to pay for and if it is covered then thas almost every nessecity.

Okay, stop it you guys, stop..
15k a year, isn't something to make a career out of.. Let's say our guys do have plans of somekind of future, how should they ever afford stuff like a car, a house, providing for a family, if they should be able to feed their own personal needs plus saving up, off of 15k a year... Get real..
In my honest opinion, before a progamer can call he's career anything near steady, we need to be atleast around 30k a year, and thats everything included, like sponsor deals, tournament earnings, etc. etc..

Are you really that spoiled that you think you cant live off 15k a year? Get real, people get by every year with less than that. You just have to skip all the extra things and eat cheap and you will do just fine.

I am a 22 year old on between 75,000 and 100,000 AUD a year, I have no responsibilities, and that is not including my travel bonuses. its really not that much money its more about how well someone manages the money they are given, Also to those people who say something along the lines of "in other countries people live on less" that might be true but you would have to see what the average income of the country is compared to the cost of what is considered staple in that country because I can say right now out of every country I have been to that Australia has one of the most expensive staple foods and eating out costs. I would have to say that its pretty much just Russia(Moscow) which is more expensive.

But you're presenting a false dichotomy. What if you could make good (enough) money playing competitive SC2? Why does it have to be an either/or?
It's not like I'm saying people get into progaming for the money. They get into it because they love playing. But when making decisions about what team you're going to be playing with, money should definitely be an important factor, since you are spending the best years of your life on this activity.
I think you are overvaluing how much the lower tier players would be making, unless it was sarcasm. You can get quite a handful by streaming enough... Yeah but it seemed like he was talking about salary/sponsors etc. Yes, I was. I'm quite positive that players like Idra and Puma and probably DeMuslim get quite generous salaries from EG, if I were to take a guess, I'd say around 50k a year on average. Which would be a lot of burger flipping. I can understand Idra and Puma getting decent salaries (15-30k), but why would DeMuslism be so high? Also, the lower EG players would be nowhere near as close. I still think 50k is a bit high. The EG cs team probably doesn't even make half of that salary, per player. 15-20k isn't decent. 30k is "decent". 40-50k is where an individual would likely want to be who is in the 20-25 age range and doesn't have a family. By "want to be" I mean that as living -very- comfortably alone while having plenty of money to still pay bills and throw around. 20-30k doesn't really cut it. Most salary pro gamers do not make very much. For most players salary just means monthly income. 15-30k is decent, considering most do not have a lot of bills to pay and/or delay college, etc. 15k is trash per year. What are you going to do with 15k a year? That's roughly 1250 a month. That's definitely not enough to live alone, have a car payment, pay car insurance. pay phone bills, things like that. I can see what you're saying about pro gamers not making very much, but when you take a step back and look at what making 15k a year really means, you can't help but realize why someone would want to jump from a 15k a year salary to a 30-40k a year salary. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Minimum_wage_in_the_United_StatesLiterally millions of people live on *under* 15k a year. And that's in the world's richest country. Don't even get me started on poor countries. Some Americans are so goddamn spoiled.
The minimum wage in the USA is far lower than in other developed nations like Australia, there's a massive gap between the rich and poor over there.

My rent alone is more than that... And i'm not exactly living in a castle (it's an old 4.5 room flat...). Then there comes car insurance. Health Insurance. Other Insurance. Telephone/Inet-Bills FOOD . . .
Seriously, people have no clue how expensive live is.

If your living rent-free in a team house (food and drink included), your travel expenses are payed for and you get to keep all you winnings.. Sounds like a pretty good deal for a 20 something year old without regular education or job experience. I used to work with people in the entertainment industry and you would be surprised at how low their base income was, but all the supplements (free-stuff) made up for that in tenfold.

All of which is payed for by the team (pro-gaming house duh?)
15-20k is nothing for anyone with a normal job. But don't underestimate how much of your money goes toward rent and food.
