Global Starcraft2 League (GSL)’s foreign fans showed their appreciation to its sponsor Pepsi in a unique way and are becoming a hot topic.
GSL Foreign fans have been thanking Pepsi through twitter (@Pepsi) since the 9th. Most of the messages were “Thank you for sponsoring”
This also started from a simple comment made by Nick Plott and Dan Stemkoski. During the casting of GSL Code S at 9th of August, the two casters said “Should we say thank you to Pepsi for sponsoring GSL?” and “Show powers of the foreign fans” (These are not exact words from tastelss and artosis during the cast. This is direct translation of what was written.) Everything began from here.
The GSL Foreign fans started to send thank yous to the sponsors, and thousands of twitter mentions have continuously been made since then.
In response to this event, Mr.Chae openly thanked the fans on twitter saying, “wow!!! Thanks all GSL!!! Fans! you are making our sponsor @pepsi happy THX #GSL”.
Pepsi sponsored the past season 4 of GSL which ended with Lim Jae Duck (NesTea)’s win on 7/30/11, and is continuing remain as GSL’s sponsor during the current season as well.
Very neat. Moves like this will re-affirm to these companies that sponsoring such things isn't a complete waste. Hopefully Tastosis calls out for us to do this for the other companies as well, or hell, just go do it anyway. =)

Please answer honestly, I'm curious to see how big of a difference someone sponsoring the GSL makes to people.
This poll is useless. Hardly anyone I know looks at prices when buying something like soda, you buy whatever you feel tastes better. I mean, I love pepsi for sponsoring the GSL, but not to the point where I'll actually drink it.
I mean, people thanking pepsi for sponsoring is awesome and all, and it does improve their 'image', but I doubt it does anything in terms of their sales.

I'm pretty sure 80-90% of people cannot tell the difference between pepsi/coke, or do not care enough as they taste so similiarly (like to me). And I would argue it affects sales, but making them back all the money, probably not.
the thing is, and MAYBE i am crazy, in germany coca cola tastes better, but i when i am on vacation in spain or USA, pepsi tastes better Oo, other climate? well at least i make sure everybody has a part in my belly.... xD

They have talked about this on the GSL before. Different regions use different ingredients. Korea, for example, uses sugar instead of high fructose corn syrup I believe.
Goddammit. I love Coke wayy more than Pepsi and now I'm just torn. I don't think I'll ever stop hating Pepsi because they bought every vending machine in my university and I can't get a Coke anywhere because of it but I dislike them less now. =P

Coke uses Santa and polar bears, not Pepsi (and fun fact: Santa used to wear a green coat before Coke started using him in ads).
Nice that Pepsi sponsors, but I prefer coke when it comes to a nice glass dark rum. I like some Pepsi products and I like some Coke products so I guess I buy both frequently.
i'm not really a fan of either as a drink... but since the gsl started being sponsored by pepsi i often get a pepsi with my lunch now! i love the gsl that much.

I think it's related to the water. Afaik they use the same recipe in every country, but the water they add comes from local sources so that's why the taste is different.

Don't be torn. Coca Cola sponsors Incredible Miracle. Team sponsorships are equally as important as tournament sponsorships.

Fuck it, I'll buy one coke and one pepsi every time I buy soda.

I've always been more of a pepsi man; it tastes sweeter than coke IMO.
Hah the sweetness is actually why I prefer coke to Pepsi. But keep in mind people, even if you don't like Pepsi, you can drink Dr Pepper, Mountain Dew, AMP Energy, Sierra Mist and Gatorade. You can also eat Frito-Lay products like, well, Fritos and Lays.

Nah recipes are adapted to the 'local' taste and the 'local' marketing strategy, goes for pretty much everything, from soft drinks to beer. It goes beyond taste even, they actually change the color of drinks depending on the market. French fanta is like twice as orange as the dutch one, mexican coke tastes differently from US coke due to the sugar used, grolsch export tastes like dutch heineken, export heineken tastes like budweiser and pepsi in the netherlands is something I consider undrinkable while in the US it don't actually mind it at all.
Anecdotal 'evidence', but still, when I was younger I used to work at a cafe, and the cafe was under a pepsi contract (only pepsi soft-drinks; pepsi, 7-up, nestea, etc), and it happened quite often that someone ordered a 'cola' (generic dutch term for a 'coke') and they'd bitch when you'd serve them a pepsi. Wasn't even young people, was mainly people over 40 that grew up on the taste of coca-cola and never tried pepsi.
I find it hard to believe that many people actually buy Pepsi over Coke. I mean, I know you guys want to show your appreciation for people who sponsor these events, but the man asked you to answer honestly.
I'm actually super happy that pepsi sponsored the GSL. I don't really drink colas a lot, but before i only drank coke, but after the sponsorship i decided to give pepsi a fair chance and now i love it
I was always a coke > pepsi guy (not a huge difference imo) but now after coke stopped sponsoring GSL and pepsi took it up I see myself buying pepsi > coke.
Guess advertising works pretty well on me lol but I'd rather buy a product that supports something I love so its all good =)
Went Tasteless said tweet Pepsi, i didn't think anyone would do it. This really shows sponsors that e-sports fans are very appreciative of gaming sponsors. I'm not sure if Coke or Pepsi is better but diet Pepsi blows diet coke out of the water. Drink diet Pepsi regularly.
As much as one can appreciate the aspect of sponsoring the GSL, Pepsi doesn't do much for me in the way of beverages.
The only Pepsi product I moderately consume is Gatorade, and that's not really because of superiority to Powerade (it's just slightly more available and can usually be had for cheaper). The only other Pepsi drink that rivals a Coke equivalent is 7-Up, but I'll take the Coke version of everything on taste before a Pepsi product. (It's actually really interesting to see who owns what)
Keep in mind that Pepsi owns Frito-Lay, Quaker, Tropicana, and Gatorade as well as the soft drink company. You can indirectly support them in a huge number of ways (although it's probably not as helpful in convincing the Pepsi-specific advertisers to continue to support the GSL).

This is fantastic! We should all do this, this is only good for eSports and Sc2 in general. Not only do Pepsi look at that but potential sponsors do also!

It's been so long since I tasted Mello Yello (it's harder to find up here, if at all) that I'd be lying if I could say which I preferred at this moment. Though that flavor of pop didn't really do it for me anyway.
i love pepsi for sponsoring GSL, but when i go the the store, mexican coke is the way to go. I live in TX, and we have the 1 Liter glass bottle cokes from mexico made with real sugar not godamn high fructose corn syrup. Definitely the beez neez
I am a coke fan just because I don't like pepsi, but I drink a ton of Dr. Pepper and always give a shout out to them supporting MLG on my show. Go Dr. Pepper!
I started drinking Pepsi Max about 2 years ago, when the local Coca-Cola producer here in Sweden made some change that made Cola Light taste like shit. Now I only drink Coca-Cola if there is no other options around

it's "distinguish" and the two taste completely different to me.
I think its great that people are supporting esports by thanking sponsors. I think all fans should do this for companies and groups that support their favorite team. Go esports!! Also.....I still like coke better......and Dr. Pepper before the both of them.

That's completely false... They are different and taste different.

Pepsi is more sweet while Coke would seem like it stings more.
