This time last year, I had no idea people played starcraft competitively, at least in the USA I had heard about it in Korea. I had no idea what TL was, never watched any gaming streams or you tube channels. Now I likes me some rootdestiny stream, some day9 daily, some huskies starcrafts. But as I have become immersed in the world of gaming something keeps cropping up, and it doesn't me so much as I just don't understand it.
Why are you all so gay?
That's an honest question. From listening to the chat in day9's stream, mlg streams, destiny's stream...heck just about any gamer chat you can find around has about one thing in common...it is full of unabashedly gay comments. I mean it even seems to have become an acceptable term in gaming to call people "pretty". Husky and Day9 will do this a lot, but it spills over even worse when you get to the masses. For instance its commonplace for men to tell Day9 they wanna bang him in his chat....
And so I wonder, all you "come out of the closet if only in a starcraft 2 stream chat"...what was it that drew you and you're gay friends to sc2? what makes it feel like such a safe place to let it all out? Or...and this is a long shot but who knows...did starcraft 2 somehow turn you into a flaming homosexual?
Like I said, this isn't meant to be homophobic. Yes I'm straight, and sure overtly and over the top gay people can make me feel a little uncomfortable at times but i know I'm not alone in that. So its not that I'm bashing you I just want to know....
"Yes I'm straight, and sure overtly and over the top gay people can make me feel a little uncomfortable at times but i know I'm not alone in that."
Yes, this makes you homophobic. No, you are not the only homophobe alive, so I guess you can take solace in that? Why do you give a shit about the sexuality of people on the internet?
because we're not a bunch of homophobic jocks who think that having respect for other men is means that your flamboyent. What a stupid ass question. The comments are not gay, something gay would be if somebody would come out and say, I'm attracted to that man. If anything complimenting other pro's is a way of showing that hey, we're not a bunch of pimply faced nerds. We're normal people.
And so what if some of these comments were meant to be gay, which they're not. Even if they were good for the caster for being open about it.
I'm straight myself, but I feel as if this community is very progressive when it comes to that, and yes if gay people make you nervous then you are homophobic.
I'm guessing you're not a male between the age of 15-25 that's ever used the internet. "fake gay" is a pretty normal thing these days. If they're seriously saying "he's so handsome" it's just not wrong to think another man is handsome!

When I was playing CS , there was not such thing as pretty or love in the chat. I personally don't care about gay comments since it's not affecting me. But I agree some time the use of <3 smiley can lead to some gayism. What can I do ? Nothing.
Well, your question is phrased aggressively, kind of, but I wonder the same. I really do not know why Artosis and Tasteless call themselves pretty all the time. Or why he calls Nestea and other progamers pretty and handsome and stuff... they're not pretty at all, some of them the contrary.
It's kind of awkward. I suppose it's not anymore for pepole that spend a lot of time in the community, but I'm doing a lot of other stuff than playing and following sc2, and it's not that common anywhere else.
I do not think it has anything to do with being gay at all, but nonetheless, it's kind of strange

why so gay starcraft 2?
*starts counting seconds until mods pwn post*
The real question is, why are YOU so homophobic? I think the main reason people say gay things is because they are funny. Lighten up?
First posts exist upon a spectrum. The ideal first post is a polite self introduction in the Ten Commandments thread. The other end of the spectrum is a mindless one-liner in a LR thread.
Now go to the bottom of that spectrum, get out a shovel and start digging.
Keep digging.
A bit further.
There. Now you're at about the level of your post. Fortunately, now you've dug a nice big hole. Kindly leave your account down there when you leave - a mod will be along shortly to fill it back up.
trust you guys to actually jump down this guys throat. Humerous observation of the community. It is pretty unusual for groups of guys to call eachother pretty and say "i would do you" constantly. try pulling that at a sports club when ur getting changed. wont end well

I wish this was your first post. It'd make it even more amazing.

Its called gay chicken. Just people forgot to stop. So it gets played everywhere with people making more and more grandiose claims of what they would do without ever planning on backing them up. No most of the sc2 community aren't gay... they just don't know when to stop.
What a stupid thread to make, dude you really need to wake up and realize this is the internet where there is so much sarcastic humor around that you have to learn to see the difference between that and reality.
Just because i may, for instance, call destiny adorable after watching , does not mean that given the opportunity, i would stick my penis inside of him.
because homosexuality and gaming go hand in hand... you see the more you play video games the more feelings towards men you start to have until you can hardly contain your sexual anxiety and you just have to proclaim it to the world
all the "how old are you?" "what are you like 12?" "what are you like 15?"
your age doesn't directly reflect your maturity nor your personality or intelligence
don't discriminate
there are people over 20 that BM and qq and rage and whatnot, so you might as well say "what are you 25?" and ofc that doesn't even make sense, so don't even say it <_>
Why do baseball players smack each other on the ass so much? I have no f'ing clue, it's just part of the games own little culture. Who cares, honestly? Artosis isn't having gay sex orgies with all the guys he calls handsome. It's just a simple compliment.
It is a joke, how is it 2011 and people still aren't comfortable in their sexuality? Who cares even if they were actually gay and saying it instead of joking? Nada's body thread is awesome, Tastosis are the most sexy caster combination known to man and Day9 is a studmuffin... The real question is am I joking or not? Maybe it is who cares?
I wonder if you are the same as "GordonRamsay86" who just got banned from Destiny's channel for pretty much bashing steven for every decision he made. They were annoying as hell pretty much saying how bad a coach steven was, how bad of a player he is and how they should be listening to what he/she should be saying.
If that is indeed not you then all i can say is dont care too much about what other people say and if you cant then be a bit more mature and learn to express yourself better than saying, "so gay".
If you are that person in steven's chat then you are the biggest hypocrite ive ever seen on TL and this thread should be locked because you would be trolling.

Yeah, but I've heard people call Idra handsome. This alone let's you know it's just a joke.

This. Not only that, but much of the stuff I'd say isn't even homosexual behavior. If you've been told it's homosexual to give a guy a complement than you've been taught miserably. Try living somewhere other than under your rock, and maybe aside from learning that pro gaming exists, and that guys give other guys compliments and make jokes about it, that there are a whole bunch of other discoveries you can make in this world. Since I don't know what else you don't know, I will not give examples, as much as I'd like to assume things.
I understand you feel threatened by this. Homophobia is a very serious disease and we should all really beware of making you frightened.
Seriously though. What the fuck is your problem? It's a way to joke around and at the same time show appreciation for a player or a style or what ever. Love is a great thing, even the bible says so, which I'm sure you are aware of.

ya, but it is way over done.
It might be overdone but the OP is blatantly asking why is everyone gay like it is a bad thing. I think people might take it too far, but I don't call them flaming homosexuals for taking it too far.
I like to think of all this "handsome" talk as a meme. Someone said it once either as a joke or a sign of true heterosexual affection, and after that it just spread into the minds of other casters. Now it has become the "industry standard" to make jokes like that.
OP's social circle is probably somewhat homophobic but he just doesn't realize it.

I feel like the <3 emote doesn't hold much meaning behind it anymore. It's just a show of fanboyism. "Oh, I love HuK.<3" can be said without being gay. "I love HuK, he is so hot.<3" is the difference. YOU SEEEE?!?!
