I just want to add to this thread that mechanical switches and stability isn't everything.

I was an early adopter of the Raptor K1 (MX-Black) back in 2005 and it died this year: Because of the usb cable! (switches where still in great shape).

Let's see how long my new 6Gv2 will survive. But I guess it will be alot longer than this razer black widow keyboard which just looks like it will have some defects in 3-4 years.

I don't. (yes).

It gets quoted a lot as an argument against blue switches but I've never seen anyone who actually has that problem, whatever it might be.

I have a Das Keyboard, but for some reason it doesn't work if I plug the USB cable for the keyboard directly into one of my USB ports. Instead I have to plug the USB cable for the hub into my computer and then plug the keyboard into the Das Keyboard's hub. Does anyone else have this problem? It's kinda weird; my keyboard only works when I plug it into itself.

Does it work if you plug both into your computer? Does it work if you use the PS/2 adapter?

Just got my das keyboard a couple hours ago myself but I'm a little confused about the question you're asking? If you're saying you need both plugged in, I'm pretty sure that's how it was supposed to be. Maybe I'm just tired or maybe you could rephrase? ^^

Also - I'm loving my das :D My girlfriend sure doesn't like the clicks though. She wants me to get the foam that quiets it down. Anyone have any experience using that? does it make the keyboard any worse to type/play on? and will the filco "soft-landing pads" fit on the das? says they fit "most" manufacturer's cherry mx keykaps.

i just got a razer blackwidow and it works great, its easier to spam buttons than my old keyboard.

the only thing is that the back space button is hard to press. is this normal? should i get amazon to exchange it for another one?

I'm just worried that they might send me a worse one with sticky buttons or one with a space bar rubbing and pressing down the alt button.

Got a Zowie Celeritas the other day. Love it. Don't know how I put up with my old Dell keyboard now and I thought it was really good before I actually tried a decent keyboard!

Would definitely recommend to anyone.

Surprisingly not. It doesn't work if I plug both USB cables into my computer. I plug the hub into my computer and then the keyboard is plugged into the hub.

No PS/2 on my computer (lol laptops ftl).

Yeah it's kinda tricky to explain. The Das Keyboard comes with two USB cables, one for the hub and one for the actual keyboard. What I have to do to make my keyboard work is plug the "hub cable" into my computer and then plug the "keyboard cable" into one of the USB ports on the actual keyboard (the ports are next to the lights for numlock/capslock etc.)

Ohhh wow I understand now. Yeah, that's definitely weird. I totally forgot about the hub on the side of the keyboard. I'd replace it if you're able to, at least contact them and maybe it's an issue they know about.

Question - Anyone know where to get replacement key caps for the das? I have the ultimate (blank) one. They only sell the WASD cluster and esc keys.

looool

Ok so you hooked up your Das Keyboard though your Das Keyboard and you're sure that's the only way it'll work? Your keyboard is hooked up to a USB extension, it just happens to be the one that's in your keyboard. There's a Y cable in it going from 2 hub ports in to the end labeled hub and you have another cable that's actually hooked up to the keyboard.

Try only the keyboard USB in the USB port that has the hub and leave the hub disconnected. If you've done that check your device manager to see if it sees the USB keyboard.

wasdkeyboards.com

They have 2 things you want. The 104 Cherry MX key cap set is the same profile as a Das Keyboard. It fits. Also you mentioned it was too loud. Never heard of any "foam" you can get and I really can't imagine it working but if you go to the "Keyboard Accessories" section there's Cherry MX Rubber Switch Dampeners. I still think you can bottom out but it changes the feel/sound of it.

Never been a problem playing Starcraft, but when playing games with less APM (hon, FPS) my blues make it kind of hard to doubletap.

This is a myth. I have MX blues, and there is no problem with FPS/RTS (I play both frequently). The only "possible" issue is when you are FPS'ing, and you want to try to stop running in a certain direction. You actually have to fully release the key. For example, if you are running with "w", you can't just lightly release force on "w", like you can with most other rubber-dome keyboards. This is common knowledge, but it actually feels a tad weird for the first few times. After that, it's perfect. Most tactility, and most genuine/original mechanical switches IMO.

Going to get a mechanical keyboard, my g19 is awfully uncomfortable.

Thinking the BW but it looks rather bulky and want something a bit minimalistic, also which switches are the best all round and quite loud ;D?

Nope, no problem at all...
You mean ESPORTS isnt a synonym for SC2? ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ -Proud owner of a Filco Majestouch 2 with Cherry Blue Switches- BW or SC2? Why not both?

Yeah, as others may have said, the DAS Keyboard is amazinggggg. I don't think its too loud at all if it isn't others being bothered by it, and it's great to type on. Once you go mechanical, you never go back XD
If at first you don't succeed, set your calculator to radians.

I just got a Das silent and it is amazing feeling to do anything on compared to my old membrane keyboard. I only have one problem with it, it pings a lot. Is there any way to fix the pinging?

Same here, got a Ninja with browns.
I love the board. It's a hefty investment but the added comfort is definitely worth it. I now know what people meant when they said they can't use regular membrane keyboards anymore. Obviously I can, but it just feels horrible and sluggish.

To dispel some myths though:

- These boards will probably not make you type faster. At all. I notice I'm using less effort to type now, and it feels great, but my WPM still sits around the 90-100 mark and hasn't increased over 2 months of using this board. Maybe if I finally learn proper 10 finger typing instead of the "8-finger" I do now...

- These boards are not that loud. Obviously I'm using brown switches which are supposed to be the silent version, but I've heard people state that even these switches are pretty loud. This is just not true. Banging on my old G15 v2 makes more noise than typing on this one. The mechanical just makes a sort of higher-pitched sound as opposed to the low thuds of membrane keys.

- The bump in the brown switches is definitely there, but it's pretty subtle. If you just start typing on it you probably wouldn't even notice until you slowed down. I've found that physical factors like key location or typing speed have a greater effect on whether I bottom out or not. I can type very lightly, yes, but that's also quite hard to do at a high speed and you occasionally miss a letter here and there. At least I do.
If you're adamant about having clear feedback, get blues. If you just want a really, really solid keyboard with a great light feel and just enough feedback to be able to touch type, browns are perfect.

As for tenkeyless versions, I personally use my numpad quite a lot. Even the Filco with numpad isn't as wide as, say, a G15, so I find complaints of wide keyboards and uncomfortable mouse placement a bit exaggerated. Even now, I've got the keyboard tilted maybe 5-10 degrees left, a good 6 centimeters between the edge of the board to the edge of my mousepad, and then the mouse another 20-25 centimeters away from that edge in a centered position.
When I sit properly and rest my arms on the chair's armrests, my forearms are parallel. And I don't exactly have broad shoulders or anything.

I don't see why you would want to put the mouse and keyboard any closer together than that.

A G15 isn't near a normal-sized keyboard. It's not a myth; it's a totally legitimate opinion to want a tenkeyless.
