Not disagreeing with you there. I was directing my comments at the people who started screaming, "Tea Party guy!" when there is nothing to indicate that he's anything of the sort.

Except that from the Youtube video, he hates fiat currency, people that don't speak English properly and is paranoid of the government spying on him.
Two of those are characteristics of the Tea Party/internet libertarian movement.

Except that schizophrenia and pot use have almost no correlation... there are thousands of people who smoke pot every day that don't have schizophrenia.

Just read about it when I came home. German media indirectly suggests that the gunman must have been a tea-partier. Since they do not have any facts to base there suggestions on, it shows me how deeply separated and prejudiced we already are. I must admit that my first thought reading the headline was the same but when I checked for any evidence I reminded myself not to judgmental so fast. I guess we could all use a little less prejudice here.

It's one thing to read a headline and think "Oh it was the Tea Party." It's another to state/hint that it's the Tea Party in a fucking news article. If you're writing a news article, you really need to make sure it's correct when you say shit like that, otherwise you should be fired for being a shit news writer.

The issue is that Palin and others have lowered the level of political discourse in this country to a sad state of zealotry based on empty rhetoric and easy to understand catch phrases. Of that, there is no doubt that she is guilty.
People are trying to ignore the fact that her Tea Party opponent had a campaign event with an M14 and "target practice" against Rep. Gifford, or that Tea Party candidate Sharon Angle said, "if this Congress keeps going the way it is, people are really looking toward those Second Amendment remedies."
What does that imply to you? Stop tossing around a "bad apple" argument. The movement is founded on misinformation and it portrays the current state of affairs in an extreme manner, in order to convince people that the world is a black and white place and that things should be done for the sake of good.

Why would it matter what political affiliation he had? As far as I know, no party is going to endorse his actions. Why can't we just accept that he was a pyscho, because he just shot 5 innocent people.

Still, it doesn't change the fact that the crosshair map she posted was an incredibly stupid thing to do, and no matter who the person was who perpetrated this, I hope that everyone can see that the kind of us-against-them, second-amendment-solution, socialist-fascist-muslim rhetoric has no place in American political discourse and should stop.
And after the crazy guy flew a small plane into the IRS building in Texas last year, I think people can be forgiven for jumping to conclusions.
