Did you watch HiyA v. Stork? The crowd was going insane over Stork sniping HiyA's scouting scv. That's esports.

EDIT: Keeping this in the spoiler, but for easy watching...

i guess you totally missed my point no one will pay 10$ a month (which is not the only obstacle there) for something he can have for free one way or another if he isnt already 100% into it.

watching sc1 could only get that big because it was free and, even being free, it also didnt get big in 6 months.
even microsoft started to fight piracy seriously only after everybody used it already and there was no alternative anymore.

or if u get it better that way: the more you invest to grow it the more you reap. starting with the reaping wont work or at least you wont reap much.

they shoulda kept 2010 format. 2011 format is way to confusing and not exciting in any way.
I would go as far as to claim that the current format is unacceptable. The fact that we are used to retarded qualification processes as a gaming community is not an excuse. If you wanna hit big follow the format of well established organizations, NFL, UEFA, and so on and so forth.

Firstly sorry for spelling errors I am editing on my iphone.

The 2011 group stages are quite similar to the FIFA world cup.
The only difference is that when it is a tie the ones who are tied play eachother instead of playing everyone once. I like the format as it is I think people just need to get used to it like with everything and I think (pure speculation) that nobody will remember this whole discussion a month from now and it will be a non issue.

Feels like SC2 is just boring in comparison to SC1. Once someone gets ahead, they'll win if they just play safe and not even amazing micro can save the other player because SC2 doesn't have the units that can change the tide of a game like in SC1. Very rarely to we get to see a back-and-forth game, but we get to see people mess up and give a win away due to lackluster play rather than wins being taken by use of amazing play.

It's not the players, it's just the fact that everything is so balanced and nerfed in SC2.

I agree with this, if I could only access BW vods and streams of the OSL,SPL and MSL(and others) by paying 10$ I would not do it if I had no prior knowledge of how awesome it is. Watching it makes me realize i would defeninently pay 10$ for it.
I am skeptical about paying 10$ even if it is only 10 when I see posts everyday about the games being allin and under 10 minutes.
The flaw in this however is that there are many casters who have ''free'' games to watch, like Day9 and such.

hey mom i want to watch these GREAT games on the internet but it costs 10$ a month and you can only pay by cc may i type your cc number to some random korean page you never heard of please?

yea sure honey go ahead....

seriously?

People still think the internet is some scary place where even the most respectable sites that tons of other people use will still steal you CC info?

I think the format of Code S is awful. I don't know why but it is so boring to watch those dull best of 1s. It really is no fun - I hope it wont be like that forever. These games aren't gettin me excited, because it feels like they were playin just for fun.
Fruitdealer gets to play in the up and down matches while other people cheese their way up to code s - it's so stupid.
The only game I'm looking for atm is IdrA vs Jinro, but again only a best of 1 -.-
I think the quality of the games got worse, I hope it will be different once we get to the Ro16 or whatever..

I just watched my first Broodwar Match. It was amazing! The game itself seems to be slower than SC2 and the map was much bigger, but paradoxically there was so much happening: Fights everywhere, units attacking and retreating, harrassing...
I would suggest to slow down the overall game speed to somthing between faster and normal...It would allow much more micro during the battles...

I never played Broodwar myself either, but I started watching Broodwar shoutcasts a few weeks ago too. Most of them were way better than a lot of the Starcraft 2 matches I've watched so far.
Also, I haven't watched a lot of games of the current GSL and I think I will continue only watching a few ones that I think might be interesting. A lot of it is just not worth the time watching it because it's simply boring.

Number getting stolen and shit like that. I'm not too knowledgeable about credit card security to be honest coz I never felt the need to get one myself.

To be fair, if new maps do come out they should be limited to the ''Proleague'' what I mean is ICCup typ maps which are in a total different ladder system. The casuals are still able to enjoy there small games which are not tuned for high level (macro) play while the pros or those who aspire to be pro's can try their hand at this ''ProLeague''. You can pick for yourself if you wish to play this ''Proleague'' or just casual games in a small map. This would make for an easier solution, because if you throw these large maps to the casuals, they won't be able to compete for shit and get stomped on hard.

Honestly $10 a month isn't unreasonable at all, just because you're under 18 and don't have access to a credit card...

I mean for BW fans disagreeing with me, ask yourself, would you fork over $10/month for watching all the BW games in HD quality vods, higher quality stream (as in not in a crappy restream) with English commentary for $10/month? I know I would.

Disclaimer: I know BW can't even be played in widescreen/HD and BW people are going to shit on me and say they prefer the korean commentators and that the GOMTV stream isn't HD but if those were available for BW, wouldn't it make you cream your pants and go "OMFG I WANT IT" or at least make you think twice about it? Also I find it very admirable of GOMTV to have an English for foreigners. Hopefully one day they'll get a sponsor and companies willing to advertise on the English stream so they can make everything free.

Also I like both SC2 and BW pretty equally. I used to watch a lot more SC2 than BW but recently I have been watching a lot of BW because my sleep schedule is all fucked and there's usually nothing on at 3-5 am in the morning I'm starting to like BW a lot better now that I got more used to the (insanely fast) korean camera observer.

Even in the Chinese SC scene, popularity of sc2 has fallen dramatically since the Nada vs Boxer matches. Now all the big Chinese sc sites, there are near 0 replies in sc2 news. ppl are simply not interested anymore.

The only thing I am completely happy about SC2 is, it was the reason why I found TL.net and awesome Korean BW streaming.

It's not the quality of the stream and casting but the entertainment value of the games. At this point I probably wouldn't even pay $1 to watch GSL, and that's with Tastosis.

Now BW with Tastosis? I'd buy that for a dollar.

the gsl games tend to favor lots of really strong rushes or really strong all in's like the scv/marine tactic. I also agree with most in that a completely new ladder map pool with maps designed for more balanced play would make the game more fun to watch and cut down on all of these seemingly easy to execute yet very strong rushes we see.
