Just played a ZvZ where my opponent used this weird bug that allowed him to build a spine crawler where there was no creep. I'm also assuming that it is possible to build any zerg building where there is no creep using this technique. (build hatchery, immediately cancel, immediately build the other building)

Without having seen the replay yet, I predict he canceled a hatchery and used the leftover creep?

EDIT: Yeah he did. When you cancel a hatchery, there's a minimal area covered in creep for a few seconds, it's enough to place a spinecrawler if you're fast enough after the cancel. I'm not sure this should be labelled as a "bug".

Doesn't seem too much like a bug, could and has even been expanded to using this creep to place a tumor and further expand creep from nothing.

there was a similar thread in which was described something like
canceling the hatch place a creeptumor and then build like 5 spine crawlers

but i think in ZvZ u dont need that trick because u can just build on the enemy creep???

Whether or not this was "intended".. I think it's a rather creative and cool technique. It could be labelled as abusing the game or w/e but still, he actually built the spinecrawler on creep, it's just that the creep vanishes after a few seconds. I imagine it's pretty easy to fix if this turns out to be "unstopable" just make cancelled hatcheries spawn no creep whatsoever.

Kinda useless in any other application though, I mean it will die without creep eventually so unless you are playing zerg and do exactly this I cant see using it.

after the spinecrawler is bult it will die soon after since it looses life fast without creep

he is probably using the minerals hack, where he can get 1000 minerals for free with canceling and rebuilding on the same place.

Seems kind of easy to stop if you're just being safe though? Just look around your main real quick before comitting to anything (ala bluestorm TvP, gateways in main) And if you find that spinecrawler, take 4-5 drones off minerals and attack it while its being built + block it from moving to your creep when its done.

Can't check it out because I don't have the game on my laptop, but don't they just die (lose hp constantly) after the creep evaporates?

The problem/finesse about ZvZ is that you can use your opponents creep to prevent that.. Which was exactly what happened in the replay. He built it, and it only starts losing HP once it's done, so he moved it to his opponents creep right away and thus prevented it from dying.

I don't think its overpowered or anything. I was just posting it to see if others had known about it and to question whether it is intended or not.

Kinda dumb to make a spine crawler like that I could see doing it to make proxy tumors then get some crawlers on that creep, but if u just put a crawler it will die once the creep goes away.
