First off, these banners are just great, love them!
Okay, today's broadcast should produce some really nice games. Violet vs Luxury Violet has been undefeated in live games ever since the end of WL. If his PvT and PvP have proved to be really good, his PvZ hasn't really been tested, the only game he played recently having been with hyvaa. In the other corner we have Luxury, the reigning MSL champion that has managed to go 3-11 since he won his title. Even if this isn't proleague and Luxury might actually care about winning here, let's not forget even go.go raped him in the OSL. My money's on Violet for this one.
Jihium vs Tempest This Jihyun fellow knocked out free in the round of 32 but that's about the only thing he's done in his whole career. Sadly tempest lost almost all his PvZ after having upset Jaedong last season, but he's still my favorite for winning this.
Kwanro vs Zero Kwanro vs Zero, another zvz. Since none of them is jaedong, might as well toss a coin to predict the winner. I just did that and i got Zero.
Mind vs Effort Effort has been owning left and right lately and his carreer win rate is close to 64%. Sadly Mind hasn't been as convincing as you'd expect a titleholder to be. I predict total anihilation from Effort here.

Nope, fantasy is only for PL. And I think they stopped doing Fantasy OSL/MSL and never did fantasy GOM, because its meh and not anywhere near as fun as Fantasy PL.
Edit:To clarify, only PL matches count towards fantasy PL, individual leagues have nothing to do with your fantasy team.

I can feel for lux...the dt glitch totally threw him off. I'm sure it caused overlords to be out of position. Happens to me when theres a dt somewhere I dont expect. I end up moving key overlords out of position while im in a hurry. Its especially hard when youre trying to perfectly micro constantly.
Id say violet got fairly lucky. I still think lux will take this 2-1 if he keeps his head. IF.

like daniel was saying i have no idea what the hell violet was thinking. he was in a really good position. all he had to do was deny expos/do whatever harass with dark templars and defend with zaealots/templars. wtf
Can someone explain why P's don't open conventionally vs Z on God's Garden? (Never played the map and I'm not following the pro scene too much these days, so I'm totally clueless.)

You have a base in your backyard thats why. Kinda like how on andromeda P sometimes makes a gate and expos to min only if they expect a 9 pool, except here you get gas so you dont have to worry about being behind vs a non 9 pool. That is my understanding. Feel free to correct me.

There is an expansion in the back, so protoss get 1 gateway, use zealots to block the ramp, and then build a nexus in the back.

The backdoor expansion allows them to go 1 gate tech instead of Forge because of the ramp, resulting in a quicker tech. (I'm assuming you mean conventional opening as in forge FE).
If that doesn't answer your question then I'm just as clueless. : |

1-gate fast expo is a superior build to forge-FE, but if you don't have a backyard it's impossible to do. On God's Garden, you have a free backyard expansion + the rush distance is also huge, so you can go 1-gate -> nex just like on Loki II, which results in faster tech and more zealots.

instead of having to build cannons, the back expansion allows protoss to pressure/harass with zealots while expanding at the same time. you don't have to spend resources on static defense in photon cannons

Its just that getting pool/gas that quick and starting lings insted of drones is a weaker econ so the timing is tighter. Besides if you miss a probe its all for not. Thats what I mean.

map imba
yup, it was already commented on, but it's difficult for the zerg to secure a 4th base
the longer the game goes, the less likelihood a zerg player will beat a Terran or Protoss opponent
Luxury taking out Violet's third only delays Violet a little with Luxury at 3 bases versus Violet at 2 bases combine that with Violet's drops on Luxury's main and Violet ends up ahead. also, the only thing Luxury did well was take out Violet's 3rd expansion. all combat exchanges ended up with Violet ahead.
On May 31 2009 19:15 SuperArc wrote: But we have to give Luxury some praise too, he didn't play like he was in a slump.
All he had to do was kill that one DT in the first game.
He didn't even bother trying to get a 4th even when he was ahead, he didn't snipe any obs, he hardly even harassed. It was a horrible display from him.

Kespa doesn't include GOM games in their ranking. Of course Lux will go really down there, considering he's only won one game counted by Kespa.
Tasteless and Daniel keep saying this is an upset, but I beg to differ. Violet has been unstoppable lately and Luxury was playing horrible since he won the MSL. Not exactly an upset.
I see no reason at all to compare their KeSPA rankings like Nick and Daniel do all the time, i mean it doesnt mean anything about current shape of players, just like Fifa ranking does in football. Violet's damm hot lately (beating Bisu in straight game is damm big thing) and Luxury just sux, thats it.

Tastless and Daniel always make mistakes both in information and strategy. (for example Luxury did NOT win 2 individual titles)
Its pretty hard to take or break a base on this map with zerg , pretty much have to wait till defilers are out . Like they said Corsairs played a huge roll in the game . Drops on main seems to be good on this map coup with an attack on the protoss expansion .

Can't really blame them... Luxury's a recent MSL winner that hasn't been playing ZvP since the slump started... Violet hadn't proved himself in PvZ and his team hasn't really used him in that mu. It's not easy to say that ability/flaws in one mu will translate directly to others.

I wouldn't be surprised if they are doing it just to try and hype up the game some more. Gom needs every bit of hype and publicity they can get while growing right now.

True, but I have a feeling they're hyping a lot of players just to give some fans the impressions that anything can happen.

Honestly, while I'm a huge Violet supporter, I think his PvZ is a little mediocre -- unrefined, maybe. If Luxury were in form I don't think Violet would've stood a chance against him. But luckily for Violet, he's at the absolute top of his game currently whereas Lux is in a huuuuge slump.

I am not quite sure guys, but if you like BW, there are rumours of an invitationnal tournament named "Valor" that would be broadcasted on the Premium Gom stream. To be confirmed though...

I've heard this rumor before too, but I just don't believe it. If only there were a commercial or something to confirm it.
May as well mention this now, if there's any chance that Tasteless reads these threads.
He mentioned the Corsair hero from the Protoss campaign in the Violet vs Luxury series, and how he was one of the most annoying heroes in the game. Well, I'm pretty sure that the hero model was actually a Scout. Seeing as he was in the original, and Corsair is a Brood War unit, and he didn't make the switch over to a Corsair.
Just me being a random nerd (you can beat me while you listen to I'M ON A BOAT, if you want).

Haha, I know I heard that ToD is casting too, surprised hes not invited. He casted that game for that other invitational awhile back and did a great job. Looking forward to that.
Okay, so the first game wasn't really BO loss but early expo gives too much to defend so I consider it BO loss even if it took like 20 minutes to finish it.
Kwanro was a bit unlucky the second game. He expoed while Zero stayed on one base AND had only 2 drones on gas, meaning he was intending a limg ramp break. Sadly Kwanro's ovie went the wrong way and didn't get to properly perpare for that.
any of the semi-pro zergs watching know why more zergs don't go 3 gas muta on God's Garden? Seems like a really good map for pumping out two+ control groups of +1 mutas... Just too difficult/risky compared to hive tech?

Good to see Violet advancing. This kid is on fire lately. Since he started playing regularly in proleague he is 12-2 and is on 7 games winning streak in proleague... Not such a huge suprise that he eliminated Luxury.

The point is usually to pick the favorite. Most people probably expected Mind to put up a good fight but Effort is really coming into the scene now, the kid is really good. I'd take on fire Effort > Where the hell have you been Mind.

Actually Mind lost game 2 due to map imba + position imba at same time. Tastless and Superdan spent half of game 3 talking about the positional imbalance. Mind played really well that series, why did you have to do a weird all in game 3 mind T.T. I would reccomend all Violet vs Lux all 3 games, Mind vs Effort all 3 games, Kwanro vs Zero game 1. Been a good day of gom, better than the usual crap we get.

6-11 in TvZ is not bad... And the fact that in proleague no Terran has been sent on God's garden and mostly Zergs does not indicate any imbalance.
