someone says its just 1:1000 and someone else says 8mbit = 1024kb does anyone actually know? have we all just been making stuff up since computers were invented? | ||

A: As the names imply, megabit refers to individual bits, while megabyte refers to 8-bit units. Many authors use the following convention: Mbps abbreviates megabits per second ~~~~ MBps abbreviates megabytes per second ~~~~~ The conversion is easy: 1 byte equals 8 bits, so: 1 MBps = 8 Mbps | ||
