I'm really looking forward to Ample's TvZ if he can knock out monstrous herO or late game unbeatable SoulKey so Bisu has chance to get out.
If you ask me all groups are equally groups of death. How I'd rank groups based on skill. D: Best = Royal = Action > Sharp. C: HerO = Soulkey = Bisu > Ample B: Rush = Mini > Mind(has not played much) > Killer A: Soma > JyJ > Effort > Calm
Predictions: D: Action + Sharp C: HerO + Ample (hopium!) If Ample can avoid Bisu he has a solid shot. If Ample meets Bisu its donezo. B: Rush + Mini A: Soma and JyJ

you misstyped your group D prediction. Surely action has a decent shot, though.

I might also be wrong, but didnt they change the rules for swapping players for this season or from last season on? I think I heard somewhere (probably in a starcastTV-stream), that a player cannot swap first player picks, so you can only swap 3rd and 4th players of each group...

The old rule gave too much power to the 1st seeds that they could run away with a piss easy group.

These are fantastic groups! There's a ton of potential for different champions.

Damn JYJ is gonna puree that group unless Soma can pull an upset. Soma might also fall to mass zvz dogpile.
May Mini and BeSt not shit the bed, amen.

You haven't been watching proleague recently? It's who beats Soma lmao. JYJ is not top tier player.

Of the remaining players the one to beat is definitely Soma. JyJ is a strong player, but in this ASL he's around mid tier right now. Sharp is another strong contender, people have been underestimating him. Effort is also a top pick.
My vote goes to Soma, then probably Sharp.

I agree Soma's the guy to beat, I'm his biggest fan. And he may be owning recently, I haven't seen all the matches. But I thought the same thing last season and he lost to Mind and ultimately bombed out early. I'd love to be proven wrong, I just don't want to have high expectations. JyJ always looks so strong in TvZ as well, like Flash level macro and tactical play.

My vote goes to Soma, then probably Sharp. Sharp is a bottom 3 player. He has a very poor ASL history. I love the guy, but he’s typical fodder at this stage. I’d be happy to be wrong, but doubt it.

Mind is biggest unknown for me. He was either hiding and practicing maps into perfection or he was just away and dont care much. Really wondering and hoping the first option is the case.
Anyways, predictions.. JyJ + Effort Mind + Rush Hero + SK Sharp + RoyaL

Sharp is certainly not bottom 3. He's been improving very rapidly lately and ranking very highly. Depending on how useful that information is he could either be top tier or mid tier. I've observed a strong trend of rising talent usually winning the ASL in recent years, that's why Sharp is my second pick.
I'm actually less certain about Soma because, even though he's the best remaining player in this ASL, he's also fairly inconsistent. His biggest weakness is that he frequently loses games that he should almost certainly win (or at least not lose in tragic fashion). Sharp doesn't seem to have this weakness, for him it's more the opposite: he pulls out miracle wins when you'd least expect it.

Based on recent results it seems like JYJ has approached Light's level in TvZ, ahead of Rush and Royal. Him slaying group A is almost certain, even if Soma's there. Meanwhile his TvP is still around 30%-ish against everyone in the top 4 Protoss. His TvT is 50/50 against Royal and Rush. If he avoids Protoss he may win ASL a second time.

While I generally root for Sharp, he has to overcome his history of inconsistency and early game missteps to have any chance.
In the past, he could usually find his way back into the game from bad positions, but he acknowledges that the advances in optimization in recent years make early game mistakes harder to come back from.
Also there are a ton of zergs left and that's his weakest matchup by far. Cannot fall back on mechswitch like the early ASL days. Ridiculously weak against mutalisks and very inconsistent with valk backshots. Will admit he's getting better with vessel management in the SK style. Yes he's been practicing a lot of TvZ due to his Ro24 group, but I'm still not sold that he's turned a corner.
Mind hasn't been active recently because he broke up with his long-time serious girlfriend. He still looked very sad/down today.

and the first matchups for each group are..?
do we know? is it 1 vs 2 / 3 vs 4 or 1 vs 4 / 2 vs 3
