Following I post what I think about match ups and foreigners vs koreans:
PvP - Testie vs Stork
Stork is strong, but Testie already proofed that he is amazing even without being in train. He stole 1 game from Nal_rA and Reach.. and he could have won 2-1 in both best of 3's.
PvT - Testie vs HwaSin
Given the fact that the WCG Maps are Terran maps - even Paranoid if you don't get cheesed - I'll still give Testie a 30% chance of beating HwaSin with some luck.
ZvP - Mondragon vs Stork
Mondragon is one of the best Zerg vs Protoss player outside of Korea. The WCG Maps are good for Zerg vs Protoss and due to the fact that the maps are not very well known to the koreans, I'll give Mondragon a 40% chance of winning. (also luck involved)
TvZ/PvZ/ZvZ - Since there is no SEn
Let me tell you one thing. There is no winning vs sAviOr for a foreigner. He proofed in IEF and Blizzcon. He will destroy you. You can only try to survive or play in a very unique way. I think only a korean can knock him out.
For example: Imagine sAviOr vs a foreign protoss on Azalea
Anyway, good luck to Testie, Mondragon, Draco and Selector if he goes. I'm cheering for you guys!
And ofcourse, HwaSin GOGO!

this year is definitely a candidate for the strongest korean lineup, but you guys are forgetting about last year. oov, midas, july?? that lineup was insanely strong too.
|
Actually, the Chinese players showed that they could take games off the pros too. NaDa didn't even make it out of group stages, so they'll have to be watched out for.
Then again, I remember July's demolition of Phoenix was it? Where he won with muta micro only.

Insanely strong compare to foreigners but oov/midas/july weren't infallible. They had their ups and downs then, oov especially. I would say this year's lineup is the strongest yet. KeSPA's 1, 3 and 5 and possibly the strongest showing for each race atm.
|
well stork isnt infallible and neither is hwasin. oov/midas were two of the 3 strongest terrans around this time last year (along with nada) and july is always a top zerg.
kespa's september ranking last year shows oov at 4, july 5th, and midas 10th. not as good as this year's lineup's current rankings, but in terms of overall skill i dont think this year's group is much better than last year's.

the % are way too high divide them by 10 >.< for example:
Mondragon is one of the best Zerg vs Protoss player outside of Korea. The WCG Maps are good for Zerg vs Protoss and due to the fact that the maps are not very well known to the koreans, I'll give Mondragon a 4% chance of winning. (also luck involved)
thats about how close they are i guess...

Wow before this WCG the total number of players of each race that had qualified for WCG was 9 Terrans, 6 zergs and only one protoss ._. I still hope Savior wins the whole thing though

The seeding system should hopefully prevent the representatives from any one country from meeting each other until later in the tournament.

Mondragon is the best foreign Zerg when he qualifes (and he will) and Azalea is quiet easy for Zerg vs Protoss. I'm sure he can take a game. By the way, my calculations are for 1 game! Not a best of 3.
Testie is amazing in PvP, winning over Reach,rA and playing a good game vs Bisu.

agreed. I think both of them a good players but beating Stork is going to be a whole different ballgame than playing Ra.
I also doubt the Koreans not knowing the maps very well will have a significant impact. Remember that they'll definitely get used to these maps during the group stages so that by the time they hit series matches that "advantage" for other players will likely be gone.

I totally agree with that. Foreigners will just get raped this year. The got raped last year, 2 years ago, THEY GOT RAPED SINCE THE VERY YEAR SC WAS ON WCG.
Somehow, I don't see how this will change.

why would pvz against savior on azalea be so difficult?
if savior plays the way he was playing previous to his big MSL loss against Bisu, he'll be invincible to foreigners i think. but he has been playing differently lately in order to keep up with the Korea scene, but that simply isn't necessary against foreigners. if he is able to prepare new styles for his matches against koreans, and revert to his old styles against foreigners, he'll do well.
i think stork is least likely to lose a game against a foreigner

can't wait ^ ^~ every year people say the koreans are invincible, but the last couple of years they have dropped games, and i see no reason why they can't lose games this year either.
