He just overpooled every game and repeated the same 5 muta+scourge into 6 hatch Hydras every game believing that would be enough. Rain tho studied Zero's game and knew how to counter it, knowing its weak points and being patient enough to get enough mass of goon templar to take a third base and gain the control of games. Had Zero added more variety (which he is capable to) into the games of today match would have been closer. I think zero just choked, he played absolutely mediocre, even by game 5 he was still nervous it seems, losing 4 drones to a dt having hydras right there beside it, and then trying to finish the game off with pure hydra vs a protoss that has mass templars and is on the defensive. I mean, just expand and outmacro him? Rain had only 1 mining base and few units at that point and still won wtf.

Especially Circuit Breakers game comes to mind, where he squandered a substantial lead. But I will give the credit to Rain making Zero seem mediocre today. Zero's strategy mainly consist in engaging battles vs. Protoss main army by denying the 3rd expansion, or just in the middle of the map if P is aggresive enough and because of his brilliant control he will normally take the lead in games at this stage and just outpower the opponent. This has been working against the ones like Bisu, Best or Mini who are the current best at PvZ but Rain is very clever and today instead engaging in battles with the main armies he tried to avoid them by sending small groups of Zealots around the map, sending some dt's and threatening with the shuttle distracting Zero from his goal of denying 3rd and focus on dividing units to defend different spots while allowing Rain at the same time to put his main army in better positions to trade more effectively. Zero didn't adapt well to this today and instead just taking a more macro approach in the mid game he just tried to hard and took too many bad engages with his hydras.

Glad light finally made to a finals after 13 years of being a pro. Hopefully he puts up a good fight vs rain. Soma definitely seems to have gotten tilted also losing that CB game. He's definitely grown a ton this year though, look forward to seeing him win a tournament next year Also no zergs in a final all year...cool... :\

I didn't read through any of the 7 pages of this thread, just watched the match and popping in to post, but do you guys think it was a conscious decision to stay on hydra/lurker/muta or did he get somewhat forced into it trying to keep up with Rain's pressure/macro? Very interesting point. I believe the last time i saw a fast hive in ZvP on stage, was in KSL 3 RO8 SK vs SnOW on Fighting Spirit, and i liked the build a lot. I would also like to have opinions on good ZvPers about this, and i wonder if a future zvp meta could involve a priority on tier 3 over 3rd or at least 4th bases, as we can see in ZvT.

Soma vs Light game 2 was so strange. Soma was so much ahead, why didnt he just take bottom right or natural. Light had Wraiths, of course he was going to scout that base. After that it was normal amateur against ex-pro with all goofines like running 4 ultras or mutas into terran main. I honestly am quite disappointed how series spiralled into last game where Light just stomped. Edit, Light is watching the replay, in game 3 Soma rammed 12 scourges into Lights CC. Thats why it was destroyed.

Great job adapting his game plan to Zero's style. That was a masterclass PvZ with the clarification that Zero played below par. Losing a bunch of drones to a seen DT is uncharacteristic, for example. Light vs Soma wasn't bad, tbh. Soma just got countered strategically and fell apart in my opinion. The mad success of game 1 was due to a bad moveout by Light, which is not that uncommon with his play, and on CB he engaged really poorly with his big muta flock near the 9 o'clock. Light weathered some storms. Rain is probably going to beat him up pretty badly, though. I don't think Light can go toe to toe with mischief of such high caliber. Anyway, I much prefer Rain to take a title like that and not after seven hundred mirrors where he toys with people like Snow.
