I think there are definelly more then 200 ppl who can easily donate 25$. Especially if we suggest average age of starcraft remastered player or follower as 25++. As i think it is almost nothing to enter and enjoy premium event twice. A wonder for me why so few donations were made...
I'm also really surprised regarding donations. This is a huge event. I'm not a big "donations guy" myself but this was an automatic one for me. I really hope the community is going to start donating, or... I guess then foreigner SCBW is really half-dead. People don't even want to have big tournaments. I'm not sure if it reached enough people though.
Trying to give people a bad conscience for not donating is the worst possible way to motivate people to actually donate.
And this is a huge event, and I love the initiative, SC/BW really needs an offline event like this and something that can bring forth the nostalgic feeling we use to have every year when WCG hit the scene.
BUT... I can only speak for myself, I dunno how everyone elses wallets look like. But I have 9 twitch subscriptions on 9 bw players + subscriptions on all league streams, I donate regularly on different players streams, I also donate to BSL, STPL and alot of other tournaments. And I will probably also donate to CC when I feel the time is right.
The important part to remember is that the foreign SC/BW scene is more than just the top 8 players playing in almost every playoff of every tournament. I love to see my A-team players in iRk battle it out against the best every weekend, but I just as much love to see my B- and C-team players playing in their different leagues every week as well, doing good and supporting them in CPL and LMaster servers different tournaments, or BSL Chobo league.
I think it is important for everyone in the community to support both ways. Why should 200 players donate 25$ for top 8, when top 8 rarely donates to bottom 200, or care for them at all? We at least have some top players making room to coach less good players in CPL, for example Dragon, Arew, Scan, Cadenzie. But keeping the community alive doesnt fall on donating to WCG, it falls when average players don't see any way to progress and loses motivation (that's why some of us clans started the RAN-initiative), that is my opinion on the matter. <3
And to give you a good way to get people to donate and actually gaining something from it, sell hours with the auto qualified players? Donate 25$ and get 2 hours practise with gorynich, dewalt, spx or eonzerg. That might motivate some people to donate for the cause! <3

But Brain is not giving anybody a bad conscience for not donating, if thats what you are saying? He is simply offering this tournament, with this payout and this structure. Basically it's the same every other TO does aswell. Him offering players/viewers to alter parts of the structure/payout/etc of the tour in exchange for donations is just upside, when comparable tours of this calibre didn't have such an option. So, if you think that the payout or the spots per region are not to your liking, sure thats opinion and fine be me. But i can't see how anybody is coerced or anything into donating. You can just take the tour as is and enjoy the show.

Dunno how the f'ing quote thing works... otherwise i wouldve put that in on my post
you click the quote button on the bottom left of the post man (; perhaps you can't see it on your mobile device or something? Anyhow, i wasn't sure what exactly you were responding to, thats why i asked. And i gave my two cents on the matter because the topic has been discussed in other replies in this thread.
My post wasn't about motivating people to donate, I just wanted to express that I'm also surprised due to the lack of donations. I mostly agree with what you said, and maybe my thought regarding half-dead because of this is a bit far. I just consider this tournament (or something like this would be/) is currently the most important thing for foreign BW. You mentioned lower level players (like myself). I think if there is an annual event like this more and more people would try their hardest to improve just to maybe have very little chance to qualify. I'm fairly new to the scene but listening to people talking about old WCGs just makes me think an annual event like that would help a great deal. (and maybe if we can gather more money we would have more spots, and in a couple of years something like old WCGs, I think that would be amazing - I know it's just a dream)
edit: in short: we have the leagues that you mentioned fortunately, but we really lack something like WCG
Maybe the name of the tournament doesnt bring the WCG feeling to it. If this was named Foreign Broodwar World Championship or something, maybe more would see it as a "Who's the best foreign player-tournament".
But now it's Corrupted Cup and to be fair, when you read through the EU qualifier thread, it doesnt really scream "this is a serious thing!!". Wich I allready given feedback on to Gecko. Advertisement is everything if you want something to become huge. If you want it to be noticed, give it a GREAT name, make a promotion video, make people nostalgic. Like how Gecko handled the launch of BWCL, that was awesome. That 5min promotion video made me want to take the BW scene seriously again. <3

Trailers, pictures and in-depth articles take a lot of time to produce, more than I'm currently able to produce. If you're willing to boost the image, contact Brain and/or just produce hype content on your own if you can. Btw, this is directed at any reader, not AGge in particular.
It would look much better, and being organizer of the FBWCH would encourage people to help out even more to make it large! Because when you make it a "World Championship" it is for everyone. While the explanation of the name "Corrupt Cup" is a referense to Russia being one of the most corrupt countries in the world just gives it a feeling this is a russian tournament for russians with invites for the rest of the world. It is totally okey that there is 8 spots for russians and less for other regions, WCG had simular structure back in the days as well. And this is your tournament, and you are the one who deserves the credit, but if you want it to have the WCG feeling, advertise it as a global tournament with a global name, then you'll have your very own WCG!
It's also awesome that you are using some very influential community names as referees, but make sure they take it as serious as we want it to be, if we want it to be WCG. Because WCG was dead serious. If I were to try and get sponsors for iRk players (if they qualify) for this tournament and would give them the link to the EU qualifier they would prolly laugh at me.
But as I've said, this is just my opinion and this is your project, feel free to do whatever u want with it! But I have alot of experience in organizing as well, since I am in the fitness industry and arrange alot of running, cycling, powerlifting tournaments and promote them.

Well thats a very interesting point and i would like to jump in on that. I think, Agge that your expectation here, which many users here might share and the very different advertisement of the Corrupted Cup has something to do with a "cultural connotation" in a lack of an better expression.
I mean to say that we, as the the english speaking part of foreign broodwar, are very much accustomed to the "big hype" videos, announcements and coverage, that not only gives a lot of information about the event but also very much tries to sell a feeling of *awesomeness*.
I don't mean in a negative why, because i like hype just as much as most do. Let me link some examples here:
The god father of hype, TSL 1 trailer is giving nerdchills since 2008..
And TLS 1 follows suit here. While being very different in aesthetics, this video also tries to make it very clear to the viewer that we are about to witness a great, monumental and memorable foreigner tournament.
i could link some more videos and try to analyze the structure and language of the newspieces for tournaments announced on TL.net, but i think you know what im talking about.
Also, a lot of pieces of coverage that have been done in the past are much more humorous in comparison to the very clear cut aesthetics of the "westerners" Defiler Tour 68 Hype
So, im thinking that we [english speaking fans who spend a lot of time on Teamliquid mainly] and the russian community[centered around reps.ru and defiler.ru] have different expectations towards tournament coverage. Without deeper thought, my first impression is that the russian scene values the "big hype" and the extensive coverage a bit less, but puts greater emphasis on just having a good time, being humorous as well as active participation.
If we look at the corrupted cup, we will find two of the aspects i mentioned. 1. Obviously the name is a bit ironic and thus "unfitting" to our expectation as you pointed out 2. By installing the option, to change the format of the tournament by donations, the organizers encourage active participation by the viewers.
Thats my 2 cents on the matter ^^
p.s.: Also, it might purely be a matter of ressources and time for the TO and it's fully possible im just talking nonsense here
It was just suggestions. As I said, it is your tournament. But you have stated this:
2019 will bring you WCG-class tournament rebirth.
Corrupted Cup 2019 is an offline tournament to be held in Moscow, Russia, on October 12 - 13, 2019. The tournament was inspired by World Cyber Games with a number of qualification matches held in Russia, FSU, Poland, Europe, North America, and Latin America.
And if you want it to be WCG-class, you need to think global and not Russian. But anyways, I'm just trying to help out. I bet alot of people from the foreign scene would help out with a big gobal tournament. That's what I mean with making it like a World Championship, then people will want to be involved. But if you don't want them to be involved, then that's totally fine.

So you are trying to spam with ideas, or persuade that the tournament name is something withholding you to contribute? If the first, could you please help to arrange a hype video? If the latter, let's make it straight. How much?

I will make you a promo video for the event next week when I get back from holidays. But you should've asked before the whole event what announced. Then I would've had more time. PM me what you want in it, and I'll help you out.
Well it says I can pay 100$ to change the EU qualifier name, but as I have said. This is your tournament, and you choose whatever name you want, and now you have chosen this, and I respect that.

Thats pretty cool! I enjoy your promo vids for irk, so im looking forward to see it. Perhaps Brain can put it into the OP when its done?
