Well played, effort! Quite disappointing games, though =/
It's ok. I still love you <3

So Rain plays at an average-to-above-average level and gets beaten by probably the top Zerg around at the moment and everyone's like "what, Rain, you didn't even want to try?".

Those weren't the storms of someone who wasn't trying.

Maybe now you can just admit Rain is overrated instead of saying dumb things like this.

edit: I'm so fucking glad it was a 3-0 stomp though, maybe this'll cause the people who were saying "3rd place match is gonna be the real finals!" to self-reflect some.

Yes exactly, Rain tried so many ways to scout the main in g2, designed a speedlot sair push that killed a ton of overlords in g3 and tried to get a dt in later, had so many good storms and nearly toppled effort over with his push on whiteout. Effort just managed to deflect everything very well where he had failed to do so vs mini.

... But they just couldn't give effort any credit and had to attribute it to rain not trying. This seems to be a consistent theme here, not giving the winner credit.

I find STX SouL expro protoss players play better and stronger for the mid and late games. Bisu definitely has his own unique style to constantly harass early mid game and get 200 max goons with hts.

Funny thing is STX SouL expro protoss player(s) seem weak against JD, but strong against other zergs. And that is Shuttle.
He is really strong in pvz late game and effort cant win if the game goes too long.

What is your position on the matter? Do you think Rain "wasn't trying"?

I never said rain wasn't trying.

wow effort is so good. too bad he lost against mini, otherwise he would easily be the champ.

Easily? I wouldn't say.
Last is looking good again and he barely lost 2-3 in ASL 6 against Effort.

We've had some great 3rd place matches in the past but this series made me think "this must be why OSL/MSL stopped doing 3rd place matches" haha. Rain just didn't seem nearly as motivated as he did last week.

I think the only thing we can conclude here is that Effort is a hell of a Zerg and his absence will be missed heavily. Fortunately mandatory service is 6 months shorter now so he won't be gone too long.

Without Effort who does top Zerg fall too? Larva still can't find the champions edge in live matches and Soulkey has kind of teetered off a bit. I think it still has to be Soulkey as the new top Zerg, with a few scrappy second tier Zergs.

How long until Hero returns? I think he entered military after Bisu, but not that much later.

I've got my eyes on Zero as the next top zerg, he looks very strong already. Hope he decides to play KSL qualifiers.

for me this series showed two things:
How experience beats youngsters.
How overrated Rain is, mainly by the casters artosis and tasteless. To me his pvz always look just bad, or to be more accurate it feels lacking something... Praising him in every single matchup, where they forgot he was never going to win ASL if Snow didnt eliminated Flash, just a lucky run.
and Effort is just great, so great.

EffOrt should put on his gravestone

I think Soulkey has the best raw mechanics of any zerg, but isn't as good at series play as effort. Remember effort failed to get past the Ro16 for like 5 ASLs before winning the last one. Effort will be missed but there are still tons of great zergs: soulkey/larva at the top, zero looks like he'll be a real contender next season, action/miso are Ro16 material for sure, modesty and killer can play well, even calm and jaedong are still contenders I think (although not sure how much longer until jaedong goes to military).

Watching the last couple seasons it seems like each race has a much better bench of great players than I initially thought.

Indeed. I would've liked to see a Last vs EffOrt rematch on these maps. Would probably be a close series again. As to the third place match, even though there's money on the line, I think players are less die-hard about winning compared to say trying to make the finals, however, you guys are crazy if you think these guys wouldn't want to earn an extra $2000 or more by securing victory.

In this series, felt like Rain tried his hardest but EffOrt was a cut above, stopping everything that Rain threw at him. Can't be helped if he got outclassed in this case. He had a close chance in the last game, but EffOrt reinforced well to prevent that fourth from dying. One thing Rain could've done better is split his army better. He would send his whole army to deal with a single hydra at 3 leaving his third exposed etc...

Rain is not overated... wtf...

The fact that he lost 0-3 vs EFFORT doest mean shit at this level of play. Rain is probably the most complete and competent toss player in the korean scene.
Top tier pvper, best PvTer, above average PvZ...

Mini is an outlier in the pvz match up, a mini-bisu, the fact that he was able to beat effort in a close series with smart
planning and well executed builds doesnt take away the fact that Rain is exceptional.

Agree 100%. Killer has always had great mechanics and tourney play.
I believe Larva is capable of going farther, but history says his ability to advance in tournaments will stay limited.

Calm is not the best Zerg in the world. I love his style and have always been a fan. His lurker drop build in ASL7 is, I believe, the most creative play in the tournament. But he is not as solid all around as Killer or Soulkey.

Soulkey was in a tough group to break out of and he will return with a vengeance in ASL8. Is here slotted to compete in KSL3? With Effort out of the tournament he will be the most successful Zerg of late in the field.

Soulkey seems to always flake in tournaments. ZERO IS THE NEW KING.
