It seems like over half the people voted to play on Sunday so it is very likely the first matches will be played on the 26th instead of the 25th and we'll be hosting the league on Sundays. Sorry for anyone who will have conflicting issues as a result.

I would also like to replace RotV (really, a map from 2005? why?) but I don't think Python is that good. Any of the other three or even Neo Ground Zero would be good, especially to have at least one 4 player map in the pool.

Going to replace RoV and BS. Originally my plan was to have a map favored for each race to make drafting players more interesting, so people can sort of say "Hey, it is Destination. Terran is good here. Our opponent might also draft a Terran". I think Destination is a good map and it still solid for Terran picks, but RoV and BS aren't as pronounced. My assumption was Zerg was good on Ride of Valkyries, and Protoss was good on Blue Storm but I don't think that is exactly true. I'm going to go get some opinions from friends and try to replace those two maps with something more modern, but at the same time still working in the idea of having a map favored to every race. Also I want those sweet sweet Nina PMs.

Also thinking of changing Fighting Spirit to Crown and Sceptre. As I posted earlier, time, format, and also now map pool will be finalized this Friday. So in two more days, everything will be set in stone and updated on the wiki/OP so people don't have to keep guessing or struggle for info. I'll put a lot of thought into the map pool so I will just say I promise it'll be more welcoming than what I currently have.

I don't see how having maps which are highly imbalanced makes drafting players more interesting at all, I'd argue it makes it less interesting. It means that firstly there isn't really a decision as you just draft the player who plays the good race on that map, and it also means lots of the matches will be mirrors.

I'm not incorporating highly imbalanced maps. I'm using maps that are slightly favored towards races. Literally every map you ever played on is slightly favored towards a race. I'm just trying to split it down 3 ways to make each map somewhat favorable to one unique race. Also I think we will not see a lot of mirror matches personally. A team who places a race on each specific map just because their race is favored by 5 or so percent on said map in a league for players around the D to C skill is going to be vastly disappointed if they think that will have anything more than the slightest influence in game.

I'd like to apologize and say I'm fucking high atm so I'm not very good at saying stuff at the moment. I think finding a really balanced map pool in Starcraft is very difficult. There is a lot of debate among what maps are well balanced even among pros sometimes. I've gotten a lot of conflicting information about balance in general since coming back to Brood War so I don't think there is one cohesive community agreement on that topic. I sort of feel like by picking 3 maps that slightly lean towards each race is a good way to balance the league as a whole. I've been looking through a lot of maps and their results lately and I don't really know if replacing the league maps with the "top 3 balanced maps" would work. I would rather have three maps that are 5% favored in each race than have three maps that are 2% favored all in one race, if that makes sense.

Also to mention that I just wouldn't know what the top 3 balanced maps are. We know Fighting Spirit is bullshit for a 1v1 map, and a lot of the maps played in ASL don't have a great sample size. And it is extremely hard to gauge balance in old maps because despite what their statistics may say, the meta has changed a great deal since those maps were played. And I can guarantee you that they would not reflect the same statistics in this day and age (ex: Luna).

Maybe I'm overthinking it and approaching it wrong, but I'll definitely pick out maps that hopefully people enjoy, as that is an even bigger priority for me. And I will make sure that the map pool will not be too challenging or not enjoyable to play on certain maps with certain races. I do want to keep Destination because I know a lot of people enjoy that map. Blue Storm is definitely getting the cut because it seems to have mixed opinions and the pathing on that map can be frustrating for newer players. RoV was a map I wanted to keep that I loved playing on back in the day, but it seems like there are quite a few people who don't want it. It definitely is an old map and I can't say for sure if it is currently balanced.

That said, I'm going to make the map pool great again.
