Imagine JD's genius with enough practice to get to Effort's level.
I think ASL3 will actually even out the gap between JD and Flash where you cannot tell the clear favorite. assuming ASL3 starts in march or something, from the buzz inside the community it seems more like mid feb with qualifiers on the 29th of this month. Flash said he might not participate in any more leagues after this. The reason is because every time he wins, his afreeca site and his PM box and his stream chat gets flooded is with "Terran OP""Terran IMBA". This really hurts him bc they are not recognizing how hard he worked to get to where he is. Even some of the fans don't want him participate in any more leagues because flash is going through hard time because of this. If he loses, they shit on him. If he wins, people spam "Terran OP" and "Terran IMBA" He said he's going to talk to Afreeca about it. Who are these people? I dont think however the right response is to not participate in any more leagues, because that is what those trolls want. Can they not ban these people from his chat? When it becomes burden and not enjoyable. It's not worth it. He's not a pro gamer any more. He doesn't have to participate in any leagues. When Bisu didn't participate in ASL1 it didn't hurt his views nor balloons received. More importantly, his fans don't want him to participate if Flash doesn't want to. Sure, he doesn't have to. We will support him no matter what. He decides what he feels is right.

Hard not to agree with the last one. If you see a ZvT where in early game zerg loses zerglings here and there and then mutas, terran always wins. Such was the case in the last game, by the time Flash reached 3d it was clear that this will all go downhill for JD because muta didn't do enough damage to terran mineral lines. If zerg goes muta he absolutely must do damage with it otherwise it's a lost cause. This has always been the case when we had PL ZvT matches, if zerg was able to pin quite a few scvs, he has a chance to survive until hive.
Such were earlier JD games against Flash himself, where he attempted to take some advantage with muta and then tried to accumulate it by defending 3d and teching up to defilers. Until defilers zerg's life under constant pressure. It's a classic ZvT game flow.
Now, in game 5 JD wasn't able to do anything serious with mutas and eventually lost, take a look at his muta openings against Flash in other games and see how many of them he won and how.

The "just mass MnM" comments are exactly the mindset which led to Flash being spammed with "Terran OP" messages. When I watch Flash streams I notice Flash would sometimes ignore the engagement he's controlling (esp. when his units get badly surrounded), to go back on making more units. This applies to all pros out there. So not only you'd have to remember making units, you would have to develop a sense to know when to stop trying to micro a battle. To improve your own efficiency at macro. All while thinking where to send units to next, and accounting for opponent's army composition and movement. The execution is not only hard, it's also incomprehensible if you have never played BW at a high level. If tournament streams instead decided to show FP views of players throughout an entire game then perhaps people can realize how hard all it is and shut up.
tl;dr. Live tournament streams can't show the thought process of players or the 10,000 times they played the same build in practice so people have a very distorted view of what reality looks like. We should be thankful that these players are still playing out of their love for the game instead of crying about game mechanics.

That does indeed suck, but still... find it hard to believe that Flash would give up all the money/exposure he gets from participation just because a few trolls leave dumb comments for him.
He makes, what, 400-500k USD per year right now, mostly streaming but a significant chunk of it from competition exposure/hype – which also affects his streaming views?
Yeah... I think I could take a few obnoxious comments if ignoring 'em and just keeping on keeping on nets me an additional 100k or so USD per year. We all should have such problems, yes?
Not that being trolled doesn't suck. It does.

Post kespa championships carry almost about same the same merit as non official championship wins such as GOMTV inviational in Korea. Even though shuttle won last season and sharp came in second, no one really put them in higher tier bc of it. What they show daily(Spon matches) matters more.

The matches were good, though no instant classics among them if that's what you're looking for.

As shitty as it is for me to say this, TwoToneTerran I don't watch/play enough BW to even know what an "instant classic" is besides the hype/story.

I heart Flash a TON (yes, even more than JD), but if he's not in ASL3, I will be paying a lot more attention to whoever's in it while it's going on than I will to Flash. There's nothing like big-stage competition.
edit - oh, and reading your revised comment, I suspect the ASL1 top finishers didn't really benefit much from their showings because they didn't beat anyone big, just each other. Wanna become a star, beat a star, and in a big televised match in front of a studio audience. IMO.

Thanks! :D I definitely think it's a bit awkward if you go check out my shitposting record though, a lot of BW stuff where I just spammed STOOORRRKKKUUUU when he built carriers. Which was a lot. But that was for hype more than game understanding.
