You might be overestimating how much extra doing well in ASL even nets these guys. Unless you get first or second, which is no guarantee even for Flash, you might lose just as much from lost streaming time as you hide strats. Granted, I think players get a lot of extra balloons from fans when they win, but this isn't a no brainer "extra $100K" kind of thing.

Do we know what the finances of being a BW streamer actually look like? I know that on Twitch there are certain things like donations and subs where you split part of the sub with Twitch, but I don't know much/anything about BW straemers.

Not trying to dis Flash whatsoever, but, even as much as I like him, I don't think he gave his whole life to please his fans. There was a strong economic component too... as well there should be, given the hours and dedication he puts in.
I dunno... at the end of the day, he is only 24 years old, and sometimes ppl that young make decisions based on reaction/emotions, rather than taking everything into account. I hope he takes everything into account before declaring, "I'm out!".

He might be 24 but he's been in the industry for 9 years now, so I'm sure he'll be mature enough to make those sorts of big decisions.
