There will be a video stream at GGL later, so stay tuned for it.
As of yesterday, "Thursday", only the Warcraft 3 players were here, I didn't see any Starcraft players yet.
Today is Friday, the events start at like 5pm PST, so stay tuned for that.
They're doing stuff by groups this year, instead of tourney style. 1 person will be advancing from each group into the next round. <hr> I'll post more later after we already started.

Group Picks: 1: NonY should win it his PvP is very solid, but I'm not going to count NerO out. I love em both so GL to both of em. 2.LZ should win this group. His ZvP is his best MU, and Tasteless isn't very solid just a very odd and tricky player. Artosis isn't going to be a walkover for him though so watch for that match. 3.Day should win his group. A lot of people are saying Theo should be hard for Day to beat, but I think that he'll pull it out and then beat Slog. 4. lastgosu should be able to win his group. He'll play ZvT against Nyoken and that should be a very interesting match to watch, but should pull it out. G5 and lastgosu should be another interesting match to watch, but G5 told me the other day that he expects to lose to lastgosu.
I'll be helping from here all weekend so I can often get in quick contact with iTG seeing how I am part of it just hard when no one likes to respond to me though
Thats what I'm expecting. I mean they either have 4 groups like this where 1 player advances and then have a single elemination tourney till they get the winner or they do top 2 advance and have a 8 player single elim tourney.
Who knows though, they could have a double elim tourney which would take a bit longer so its all up in the air. I'll call someone and find out shortly if y'all really want to know how its going to work.

Wow! not everyone is exactly like you. I can appreciate other games other than starcraft especially when it's some of the best in the world playing. Too bad for you if you never got into fighting or racing games.

You dont know the first thing about fighting games if you actually think DOA4 is a legitimately good fighting game -____-;;
I'd be interested if the game were VF4, Tekken5, SFIII3s, SuperTurbo, etcetc.

LOL. Here's my history with fighting games. I grew up with SF 2 and Mortal Kombat 2 in the arcades. Then I switched to Tekken mainly 3 and tag. I played DOA 2 a long time ago and thought it was pretty good. So what's your point besides just trying to flame me?

I know not everyone is like me, and I can certianly appreciate other games than starcraft, but really, these games are pretty rediculous. That racing game absolutely nothing exciting happened, there was only 1 race and you couldn't even really tell what was happening. There are other good games besides starcraft, but these are not them, and frankly, I can't tell that these players don't totally suck; especially in that racing game, there's no indication of what they're doing that is particularly difficult or good, it's just "Oh, he's ahead, i doubt she can catch up." It's a waste of time, and again, it has absolutely nothing to do with whether or not people are like me or any of that.

agreed... These racing games show no indication of skill. And these fighting games are quite boring, probally because I'm not really into them, but they haven't even stated who was playing, when, etc...
its because DOA sucks, fighting games can be very entertaining, although on a high level from what ive seen you dont see much "fancy" stuff. Ive seen supposedly the "very good" soul calibur 2 players and to me just watching them they dont look any better than the people i used to play at the arcade by MSU but im sure they are alot better, just its difficult to pull off spectacular moves against players of high skill level. At least in Soul Calibur 2 everythign was very basic because Im assuming they will parry the shit out of anything else.
Okay, the way they're doing it is they're having 2 groups play at a time. The group with Nero, Nony, and Evade are playing and the group with Theo, Day, and Slog are playing.
Right now its: Nero 0-1 (nero 1-2 evade) Nony 0-0 (nony vs evade next round) Evade 1-0 (evade 2-1 nero)
Theo 0-1 (Theo 1-2 Day) Day 1-0 (Day 2-1 Theo) Slog 0-0 (Slog 1-1 Day at the moment) Slog and Day are in game 3, and Nero told me it looked like Slog was winning the game, but he'd call me back in a few to tell me how it ends up.
After all 3 players from these two groups get at least 1 match done, then they're going to start the other two groups.
I have no news on Nony vs Evade, but I'll keep you posted.
Oh, also, if everyone is tied up at the end of their group play, then that group will do round robin continusously until someone comes out on top winning against the other two players.
The top player in the group is the only one who advances to the final bracket play, where it is apparently going to be single elemination.
The other two groups like I said which contain: tasteless, LZ, Artosis // lastgosu, G5, Nyoken wont be played until tomorrow according to Nony.

Ive seen that before and I have to say that is the best SF video I've ever seen. All the other dude has to do is get 1 chip off and he wins. I can't believe that fucker parried everything. That is the hardest super to parry.
On September 15 2006 19:58 DirtyBirD wrote: That is the hardest super to parry.
no...not the case. One example is ken's shinryuken, b/c the ken player can vary the # of hits based on the K's he presses... Chun-li's SA2 is something most of the best players can do full parries for.
Justin wong made the mistake of not going kikouken(sc)-->yokusen, which would have made it much more difficult for umehara to do a full parry, since it would have been hard to gauge where the fireball would fit in. When Justin came to japan after this, he had learned to not make this mistake again -___-;;
It's also much harder to parry a yokusen from the middle of the kicks, rather than from the beginning, since you cant tell what point in the SA chun-li is currently in.
This video below actually might be harder, given the circumstances (plus, SBO > Evolution in terms of pressure on the player)
I had to leave the event early. I watched the nero vs evade games from over his shoulder. Evade made an amazing 180 after being gas cheesed and manner pyloned on paranoid. It's one of the few maps where you can beat protoss without actually attacking even once. Understandably NerO! wasn't too happy about it. They also played a good long game on azalea ^_^. I can't wait to see the replays!
Update: Nony is 1-0 vs Evade. Game 2 is on Gaia and they're split down the middle both having 7 bases.
Day pulled out a tough win against Slog. Slog made a few big mistakes wasting some units and day took advantage of it and pulled out the win 2-1.
SO: Nero 0-1 Nony 0-0 (leading against evade 1-0) Evade 1-0 --- Theo 0-1 Day 2-0 (pulled a hard win against Slog 2-1) Slog 0-1
According to Nero they may change it from only the top player advances to the top 2 advance, which seems to be in majority favor of the rest of the players there. Not sure if they're going to do it, but for those of you who are fans of Theo or Slog better hope they do other wise they're both already out.
The GGL thing, I wouldn't call it their fault. The games that they are uploading and covering are the games that happen on the main stage. I'm guessing that they're probably only going to have the finals for BW up there which is sad to me. I wish they would alternate games in and out of the main stage to give everyone a glimpse of they're respective favorite game.

But I have to wonder... didn't DOA4 and PGR3 get 1 and 2%'s of the vote respectively? Why not have bw on the main stage -_-''
yea, they did have a vote to determine which games to cover, and clearly NO ONE is interested in those 3 lame segments that they aired... I think something was definitely mishandled in their coverage.
Okay, coming from WCG Canada, I can understand there's a schedule about which games are going to be on the main screen, and GGL has no control over that. HOWEVER, how about having someone on a mic shoutcasting the game? How about a live or post-game battlereport?

I understand that. I don't see why they can't do that. If I were there I would definately say something to them. Although, if I were there I would also either be shoutcasting it for you or live reporting.
Update: Nony is now 1-1 against Evade. Evade is turtling hardcore in all of his games taking each one to about the 40+ minute mark not attacking and defending then countering. I'm guessing that Nony made a bad attack and lost all units and Evade just countered and rolled him over.
Also, the rest of the matches in these two groups WILL be played tonight. This includes: Nony vs NerO Theo vs Slog
For those of you who have been waiting to see a BW game covered by GGL this is your opportunity to see it as NonY vs NerO will be played on the main stage and uploaded onto the site as a VOD.
No news yet as to whether or not they're going to change it from the winner of the group advancing or the top two advancing.
As of now the group standings haven't changed and still stand at: Color Key: Green = Advanced // Red = Out(if the rules of top 1 advancing sticks) // Blue = Still in it NerO 0-1 (nero 1-2 evade) NonY 0-0 (1-1 with evade ATM) Evade 1-0 (evade 2-1 nero, 1-1 vs nony ATM) --- Day 2-0 (Day 2-1 Theo, Day 2-1 Slog) Theo 0-1 (Theo 1-2 Day) Slog 0-1 (Slog 1-2 Day)
This is bullshit.... how do you beat a fagot ass terran like eVaDe..... turtling every game making it go 40+ mins then countering after the patience of the toss runs out?? Wtf?

Like wcg canada, wcg usa sucks when it comes to stage games. They don't give a rats ass what the people want and don't realise that the're missing a marketing oppurtunity. Oh well, since the ggl people are there, you guys should be able to shoutcast live ( would be awesome ... we wanted to also but fucking ... I'll stop here).
It would be a good way for ggl to make up for them forgetting that they are not the ones organizing wcg usa and would make all of us here happy. <3
Nony ended up winning 2-1 against Evade. Having games that went 30+ mins, 50+ mins, and 30+ mins. All games were hard fought, but Nony came out on top. Congrats to him.
The Nero vs Nony game that was supposed to take place on the main stage and be casted to us all has been delayed until tomorrow at 11:00 AM PST so look for that then.
Apparently Theo vs Slog WILL NOT take place due to both players already being eleminated by Day.
The rest of the group matches for the other two groups including Nony vs Nero will take place tomorrow. I'm not sure when the other games will take place, but it wouldn't suprise me if they happened around the same time of Nero vs Nony.
If Nero beats Nony tomorrow that will leave all three players in their group with a 1-1 tie and force them into a BO1 round robin until someone emerges victorious winning against both of the other competitors. The maps will be decided by a coin toss and whoever wins it will pick their map.
As of now this is how the standings of these two groups stand, and here are the other groups: Color Key: Green = Advanced // Red = Eleminated // Blue = Still in it
NonY 1-0 (NonY 2-1 Evade, NonY vs NerO tomorrow @ 11:00 AM PST on main stage) Evade 1-1 (Evade 2-1 NerO, Evade 1-2 NonY) NerO 0-1 (NerO 1-2 Evade, NerO vs NonY tomorrow @ 11:00 AM PST on main stage) --- Day 2-0 (Day 2-1 Theo, Day 2-1 Slog) Theo 0-1 (Theo 1-2 Day) Slog 0-1 (Slog 1-2 Day) --- LzGamer 0-0 Tasteless 0-0 Artosis 0-0 --- lastgosu 0-0 G5 0-0 Nyoken 0-0
I'll keep you as up to date as I can from not being there. So, if I can't help ya out with updates, hopefully someone will be nice enough to help us out from there =p
I do have to give a special shout out to all my sMi lovers: NerO, Lz, lastgosu, Nony, Colbi, and whoever else is there sportin the damn sexy sMi T-Shirts. GL to all of you and good night!
when you play events and tournaments irl like this one, ppl intend to talk about camping when the terran is just being safe. Its kinda smart since (especielly TvP) the protoss often make a stupid attack coz he thinks he has the game won or something else, and then the terran can just use that and counter as many have said before~~
many tosses get nervous when they almost have limit and wanna do something ^_^;;

many carriers ftw!
yea when it's all on the line you aren't going to tornado at 100 supply or whatever -- you're entitled to be gay and do what you have to to win.
Gaia, Azalea, and Paranoid especially are all maps condusive to playing passive 'turtle' terran. I don't get it -- nobody makes a fuss when the [sheild] [fou] In_ koreans (etc.) throw up two armorys and start whoring upgrades after their second factory finishes and steamroll at 200/200. It just works amazingly well so terrans are going to use it.
Back in boxer days where the map pool was vahilla or whatever (that map with 2 seperately elevated cliffs behind the main) and LT all protoss players did was bitch about how imba factory starport was.
If you don't like turtle terran then expand more... switch to arbiters/carriers. Cheese early game. Drop harass. You have options.
just remember the 30 pvz we had.. before i left to aus/europe. and you should take this.. wish i could be there with you and huntah in vegas. maybe see u in italy long live Skyblu)

Hm, I've played eVade 5 times, 4 of the games ended with me having 12 carriers and never losing any of them..
The other game ended because my reaver raped too much of his stuff (despite him making 10 turrets).
I know what you're saying tho, I almost pissed away my game vs him in Fragbet by charging (but I had 10 000 minerals left so I just made carrier/arbiter).
I dislike that way of playing, and I'm happy most koreans seem to have stopped using it (it was very, very, very popular when luna was super mega popular) - however, IF he wins more games playing like that then I completely endorse it.

Alright, I'll explain why we haven't seen any Broodwar as of yet.
At any event for WCG Broodwar gets very minimal time slots for Stage events which are the only games to get casted. They can fit in a lot of DOA/CS things like that because it's a set time.. Broodwar/WC3 can be very short to extremly long and we all know that. I haven't been able to get in contact, but I could call them in Vegas if I got that bored ;P
Edit : And earlier did you mean I sound like NiceGuyEd?.. he's like 12 years older than me I wish I was there though!
If y'all haven't noticed yet they have some of the SC videos up from yesterday. http://www.ggl.com/wcgtv.php and click on the videos to watch =p I'll get an update on the Nero vs NonY match as soon as I can.
first game azalea, basically he went DT's and i had obs in time. i marched to his base with 12 ranged goons and he could do nothing
second game gaia, basically after we both set up expansions, i cut probes and pumped speed zealots. attacked when i had 3 control groups + reavers. we fought in the middle and his forces got split and he probably had a weaker army anyway, so that was gg
lzgamer is down 1 game against artosis. they're playing RP vs T on paranoid android now. and lastgosu vs nyoken is still in the first game on gaia (it's a gg)
Okay, just got some info on the NerO vs NonY match. If y'all want to watch the VOD and not know the out come of the match I suggest you stop reading here. The final was NonY 2-0 NerO. According to NerO, NonY had some very nice timing builds that NerO hadn't seen before or expected to see and was caught off guard by them and NonY just took the show. So, that teams that NonY advances from his group winning both of his matches in group play beating NerO 2-0 and Evade 2-1.
Right now lastgosu is playing against Nyoken and he is down 0-1. Don't have any more info on that game, but I would guess that they are going to be very good games as both players are very good.
LzGamer went 0-2 against Artosis, which suprises me and doesn't suprise me. I thought Lz would come with a bit more heat I guess you would say, but Artosis was able to cool him off and shut him down with a nice 2-0 win.
Now this is how the group standings look and another two players have been eleminated: Color Key: Green = Advances // Red = Eleminated // Blue = Still in it
So far two have already advanced knocking out 4 people in about a day. Lets take a better look at who has qualified for the 4 man bracket play and who has been eleminated.
Qualified for Bracket Play Day[9] won his group 2-0 NonY won his group 2-0
Eleminated in Group Play Theognis lost 0-1 (1-2 to Day) Slog lost 0-1 (1-2 to Day) Evade went 1-1 still being eleminated (2-1 Nero, then lost to NonY 1-2) NerO lost 0-2 (1-2 to Evade, and 0-2 to NonY)
Another Update on the lastgosu vs Nyoken match! It turns out that lastgosu lost 0-2 to Nyoken. There was some dispute over the second victory because lastgosu was winning hands down and he is using a new mouse he hasn't used too much and there are buttons on the side that he accidentally hit turning off the mouse while he was attacking. He lost around 5-8 muta and 3 keys of lings doing this and nyoken ended up winning the game because of it. They WILL NOT replay the match even though in my opinion they should do.
Next matches will be Artosis vs Tasteless and Nyoken vs G5. Tasteless and G5 both need to win in order for LzGamer and lastgosu to still have a chance to move on. I'm obviously rooting for Tasteless and G5 to win due to Lz and lastgosu being in sMi =p and because of the incident with lastgosu's mouse.
So, I'm going to update the group standings with just these two groups for now, if you want to see the other two group outcomes, scroll up and look at my other post. Color Key: Green = Advances // Red = Eleminated // Blue = Still in it

It seems like Lastgosu always has an equipment excuse for losing at WCG :O

Bad news for any lastgosu fans, but I agree with the decision to not replay the game. This is like hitting the windows button on your keyboard and accidentally minimizing during a game. It's not fair to the other player if you have controllable equipment issues. If you're headphones start crackling out or the standard WCG mouse goes crazy, then it's not entirely your problem and can legitimately pause the game. But when you bring your own equipment, old or new, that's the risk you take as opposed to using standard equipment provided by the event organizers. It sucks but it's all part of playing offline.
yeah it sucked for lastgosu. he bought the mouse 3 days ago and he didnt have razer drivers installed here, so he couldnt disable those buttons. they were constantly slowing up and speeding down his mouse speed and so his muta control was very bad. but anyway, g5 > nyoken 2-0 so now lastgosu has a chance still. lastgosu vs g5. if g5 wins 1 game, then g5 advances (because they will go by point system, not by who wins the matches necessarily). so if lastgosu 2-0 g5, then they will go to tiebreaker games between nyoken, g5, and lastgosu. and artosis is the winner from his group
G5 vs Nyoken and Tasteless vs Artosis has finished!
In the Tasteless vs Artosis match, Artosis won 2-0 beating Tasteless where Tasteless tried to do his normal tricky shit and it failed. So, that knocks out LzGamer and Tastless now as Artosis wins his group 2-0. I just got word though from Tasteless and Lz that they will play their other games for shits and giggles.
In the G5 vs Nyoken match, G5 won 2-0 beating Nyoken. In game 1 the map was split in half (dunno what the map was) and G5 threw down around 5 Starports and pumped out carriers to run Nyoken over. Then, in game 2 G5 went with a very aggressive bulldog build and was able to beat Nyoken again giving him the 2-0 win. This allows lastgosu to have a chance at not being eleminated now, as he plays G5 shortly. If lastgosu beats G5 then all the players in that group will have a 1-1 record and will go into the sudden death BO1 round robin play, where there will be a coin toss to determine the map picker. They will keep playing like this until someone wins 2-0.
So, we now have another person advance as we add two more to the list of the eleminated. Color Key: Green = Advances // Red = Eleminated // Blue = Still in it
NonY 2-0 (NonY 2-1 Evade, NonY 2-0 NerO) Evade 1-1 (Evade 2-1 NerO, Evade 1-2 NonY) NerO 0-2 (NerO 1-2 Evade, NerO 0-2 NonY) --- Day 2-0 (Day 2-1 Theo, Day 2-1 Slog) Theo 0-1 (Theo 1-2 Day) Slog 0-1 (Slog 1-2 Day) --- G5 1-0 (G5 2-0 Nyoken, Plays lastgosu next) Nyoken 1-1 (Nyoken 2-0 lastgosu, Nyoken 0-2 G5) lastgosu 0-1 (lastgosu 0-2 Nyoken, Plays G5 next) --- Artosis 2-0 (Artosis 2-0 LzGamer, Artosis 2-0 Tasteless) Tasteless 0-1 (Tasteless, 0-2 Artosis, Playing LzGamer for pride next) LzGamer 0-1 (LzGamer 0-2 Artosis, Playing Tasteless for pride next)
So, here is the list of who advances into bracket play and who gets sent home.
[b]Qualified for Bracket Play Day[9] won his group 2-0 NonY won his group 2-0 Artosis won his group 2-0
Eleminated in Group Play Theognis lost 0-1 (1-2 to Day) Slog lost 0-1 (1-2 to Day) Evade went 1-1 still being eleminated (2-1 Nero, then lost to NonY 1-2) NerO lost 0-2 (1-2 to Evade, and 0-2 to NonY) Tasteless is 0-1 ATM, but going to play against Lz for shits and giggles (0-2 vs Artosis) LzGamer is 0-1 ATM, but going to play against Tasteless for shits and giggles (0-2 vs Artosis)
On September 16 2006 13:07 DirtyBirD wrote: Another Update on the lastgosu vs Nyoken match!
Color Key: Green = Advances // Red = Eleminated // Blue = Still in it
lastgosu vs G5 and Tasteless vs LzGamer has finished!
In the lastgosu vs G5 match, lastgosu won 2-0 beating G5! lastgosu just overpowered G5 winning both games pretty handedly with Ultra/Ling. This put everyone in their group into a 1-1 tie and they are now in the BO1 Sudden Death round robin play.
lastgosu vs Nyoken was taking place where lastgosu seemed to have the lead with 5 bases to Nyoken's 2 and as Nyoken lifted his third CC the game froze up and both players were dropped. The admins are watching the replay right now to see if anyone had a big enough lead to declare a winner. If not, then they will probably replay the match again.
In the LzGamer vs Tasteless match, LzGamer won 2-1 beating Tasteless for who has the bigger balls and pride award. The games didn't mean anything, were just played for fun as both players were already eleminated earlier.
So, we now have a group that is up in the air and going to be played in a BO1 until someone wins 2-0 beating both of their opponents. Color Key: Green = Advances // Red = Eleminated // Blue = Still in it
So, here is the list of who advances into bracket play and who gets sent home.
[b]Qualified for Bracket Play Day[9] won his group 2-0 NonY won his group 2-0 Artosis won his group 2-0
[b]Eleminated in Group Play Theognis lost 0-1 (1-2 to Day) Slog lost 0-1 (1-2 to Day) Evade went 1-1 still being eleminated (2-1 Nero, then lost to NonY 1-2) NerO lost 0-2 (1-2 to Evade, and 0-2 to NonY) Tasteless is 0-2 (0-2 vs Artosis, 1-2 vs LzGamer) LzGamer is 1-1 (0-2 vs Artosis, won 2-1 vs Tasteless)
ok here is what happened: nyoken 2-0 lastgosu (his mouse was all fucked up, fixed it after match) g5 2-0 nyoken lastgosu 2-0 g5 so all are at 1-1 so 3way tie.
They then went to a 3person round robin bo1 coin flip game 1 of the round robin was nyoken vs lastgosu it was 19:44 into the game and lastgosu's computer crashed. i think they gave lastgosu the win, kinda some drama i guess but i think they gave lastgosu the win here's the replay decide for urself.
They ruled in favor of lastgosu having the lead vs Nyoken. Now they have Nyoken playing G5 for some reason that doesn't make any sense to me. Becasue, if they had lastgosu play G5 and lastgosu won then he would move on, but they're having Nyoken play vs G5 for some reason.
Also, the lastgosu vs G5 games will be uploaded as VODs. It will be replays just like the NerO vs Evade games because the announcers are too loud to cast during the actual games.
..........Just watched the rep. Nyoken definetly could of came back. Lastgosu lost his expo, and a good amount of drones, in the last few minutes of the game. The 3-4 ultras left in Nyokens base were being demolishged by mnm/vulture. I would of made a re-game... Horrible decision
In the lastgosu vs G5 match, lastgosu won 1-0 beating G5 to move on to the final 4! I'm not sure how the game went, but I do know that he won so he moves on.
So, we now have all 4 finalists. I do have the draw for who plays who and it looks like this: FINAL 4 BRACKET Artosis vs lastgosu Day[9] vs NonY
Color Key: Green = Advances // Red = Eleminated // Blue = Still in it
So, here is the list of who advances into bracket play and who gets sent home.
Qualified for Bracket Play Day[9] won his group 2-0 NonY won his group 2-0 Artosis won his group 2-0 lastgosu won his group 3-1 (tie breakers)
Eleminated in Group Play Theognis lost 0-1 (1-2 to Day) Slog lost 0-1 (1-2 to Day) Evade went 1-1 still being eleminated (2-1 Nero, then lost to NonY 1-2) NerO lost 0-2 (1-2 to Evade, and 0-2 to NonY) Tasteless is 0-2 (0-2 vs Artosis, 1-2 vs LzGamer) LzGamer is 1-1 (0-2 vs Artosis, won 2-1 vs Tasteless) Nyoken went 1-2 (won vs lastgosu 2-0, lost vs G5 0-2, lost vs lastgosu in tiebreaker 0-1) G5 went 1-2 (won vs Nyoken 2-0, lost vs lastgosu 0-2, lost vs lastgosu 0-1 in tiebreaker)

ultras do not die quickly to small amounts of rines and vults, esp since he had 3-4 armor.

GL to NonY and lastgosu!

I'd look dead fucking sexy in one of those hats, you're just jealous you wouldn't be able to pull it off.
Also, you used the wrong form of you are. It should read, "You're gay DirtyBirD."
NonY > Day @ Gaia with a well timed 1 reaver 12 speed zealot attack! Day > NonY @ PA, NonY tried to do the same thing but Day stopped it pretty easily and ran him over. NonY 1-1 Day[9] ATM, last map is Azalea where so far NonY has went for a fast expo blocking his choke with a forge and gate with a few cannons, and Day[9] has done a fast expo as well. --- lastgosu > Artosis @ Gaia with very very nice Muta harass keeping Artosis in his base until he was able to run him over! lastgosu 1-0 Artosis ATM, the second map is PA where Artosis dia a 8 rine 6 scv timing rush and killed all of lastgosu's drones but 3. I was told that somehow lastgosu was able to overcome this and get back into the game and is now harassing with 11 muta and that he may have the advantage!
Also, the games of lastgosu vs G5 from group play were uploaded as a VOD onto GGL.com!
Game 3 between NonY and Day is over and Game 2 between lastgosu and Artosis is over! Heres how they ended up.
Day > NonY @ Azalea. Day wins the series 2-1, NonY did a fast expo and Day did a 12 hatch at his min only then another expo at his first natural then did 5 hat dra. NonY did fast expo, then did reaver/sair build with 5 gate speed zealots, but couldn't even make it out of his base and Day[9] just ran him over giving him the win. --- lastgosu > Artosis @ PA! This match was amazing, after losing all his drones but 3 to a 8 rine 6 scv attack he crawled back into the game slowley until he got the lead and harassed with muta until Artosis was left with pretty much nothing. Then came the Muta/Ling/Lurker combo to finish Artosis off as lastgosu wins the series 2-0! ---
For those of you who are worried about NonY and Artosis, don't be! I was just informed that the final 4 bracket play IS DOUBLE ELEMINATION! So, NonY and Artosis still have a shot at coming back and winning it all.
The next matches about to happen will be:
lastgosu vs Day[9] in the winners bracker finals! The maps will be Azalea, Gaia, and Paranoid Androide IN THAT ORDER
The losers bracket round will obviously be:
NonY vs Artosis! Whoever wins this will play the loser between Day[9] and lastgosu. Unfortunately for the loser, their WCG dream will be over.
This WC3 commentary is really good too. I wish they had that at WCG Canada because I had to keep bugging players to figure out wtf was going on in the stage matches.
Game 1 of lastgosu vs Day and of NonY vs Artosis is finished. Heres wha thappened:
lastgosu > Day[9] @ Azalea! lastgosu just completely out played Day[9]. He went with a normal TvZ build and just contained Day not letting Day leave his part of the map and then just rolled him over pretty easily!
lastgosu 1-0 Day[9] , Next map is Gaia! Game is underway right now and lastgosu is bunker rushing! Apparently Day is in serious trouble! ---
Artosis > NonY @ unknown! Apparently NonY tried to do a reaver drop and it failed pretty badly and he was put in a bad spot after that and just couldn't recover.
On September 16 2006 15:49 HungZerg wrote: lastgosu clearly had that, his drone count wasnt great but no way nyo was gonna fight off 4 gas ult ling with his infrastructure in that shape.
i dont agree at all, nyoken was definately in trouble with minerals running out but at that stage in the wcg usa finals theres no excuse to give him that game, he still had a cc and could have floated/landed and he already had 1k in the bank probably plus another 500-1k he could mine from his bases, i cant believe the computer crashed there, IMO you have to replay that game.
On September 16 2006 18:00 comabreaded wrote: GO LASTGOSU!
i think the nyoken vs lastgosu game should've been replayed as well. too close to call even if lastgosu had a small advantage.
i think he had a sizable advantage but it wasnt insurmountable, if he had a stable amount of drones at each expansion + a bigger army then maybe youd have a case that it shouldnt be replayed, nyoken still had money left + a cc to land and guys back at home building/already made.
BTW the groups = travesty
If it was single elim the whole way then it wouldnt matter, but since outside of groups you have double elim i think the groups should have been seeded or somethin because that shit is just a joke.
you kidding? that attack was gonna kill all of nyos units. like 6 3/1 ults vs 12 rines 2 vults (no mines layed) tank, no meds. lastgosu mightve rallied ult ling and won, or just sat with ult ling scourge waiting for him to move out while taking a 5th gas and powering up.
Nony > Artosis. I don't know what map it was played or how it was won, but I do know that NonY has won and will play Day[9] tomorrow to see who plays lastgosu for the WCG USA Finals and the chance to go to Italy!
Guys, Lastgosu had a fairly large advantage. Nyo had just lost his third expansion, Lastgosu had 4 gases with 2 running bases and like 6 3-0 (3-1?) Ultras with a sprinkle of Zerglings. Nyo had very few units, like 12 1-2 Marines, couple Vults, few Tank. The pressure was on Nyo to either kill Lastgosu's expansions (very unlikely) or secure another expansion of his own (equally unlikely). As bad as you feel for Nyo getting the ruling against him, I'd feel worse for LG if he had that sizable advantage and had to give it all up and regame.

Yeah, I just called NerO back and I said that he gave me the wrong info. He ended up writing that nony 2-1 artosis like that =o so he just texted it backwards to me.
Losers Bracket Final: Day[9] 2-0 Artosis (I'm gussing it was 2-0 not sure if it was 2-1 or 2-0, but Day did win)
GRAND FINAL: (In this round lastgosu will already be up by 1 set, making Day[9] have to win 2 BO3 series in a row to win it) lastgosu 1-0 Day[9] (1-0 already due to him being the Winners Bracket winner)
it would be sort of ironic and kinda sucky if a Korean kid wins WCG USA... seems to me to be against the point of the whole national competition.. lastgosu JUST got his citizenship like 3 months ago or something. Nothing against Lastgosu or anything, but I just hope Day wins. hes cooler

Eh, and yet he has a semi-pro license (unless he lied about that and just used someone else with the same name who has one), so I guess he was in korea for a time?
What's the point saying Lastgosu is ex-hacker here and there when someone who asks about did Selector hack gets comments like how he could've got so many posts without getting banned.

There is a process you have to go through to become a U.S. Citizen. The USA is made up of many different races. LastGosu is an adopted American, and besides the only "true Americans" are native Americans. They were here before the Europeans came;my point being is that the USA is a country of immigrants. Once you realize everyone immigrated here at one time or another, its pointless to point out the fact that LastGosu just recently recieved U.S. Citzenship. I would also venture to say that he knows more about American history than the average American simply because a person is given a test as a part of the process of becoming a U.S. citizen. Anyway, now that my beloved nony is gone T.T Last.Gosu Fighting~~~~ and go pwn this kid's country's bw representative if they have one!!
Edit: You're just jealous we can have gosu Korean Americans. -_- Don't hate us cuz we're beautiful.
Because seriously, russia had 3 spots, russia vs usa.. no sense of rivalry anymore? Man, you should try to work that into why you should send more than one. Can't let russia outshine you, right?!
:D (I <3 russia for sending 3 players like this, it's awesome, and paying them tonnes of cash).
The last set has been played and the winner of the finals has now been determined.....who is it?......
lastgosu 2-0 Day[9]
Final Score
lastgosu 2 sets to 1 set Day[9]
Congratulations to lastgosu for being the USA WCG winner and good luck to you in Monza, Italy! Do us proud. Congrats to Day for doing as well as he did two years running, and shout out to all the BW players there who make this so much fun.
NerO, thanks for updating me and everyone else here man, really appreciate it.
omfg so many people are going to miss Day. He was so hilarious. =p He basically entertains us all when we're not playing. It's art. Everyone is walking around asking, "where's Day?"
US sending one is pretty lame . . . Day and Lastgosu both ought to go. Oh well, Lastgosu got the job done, good for him. Day, you are still the best in my book.
what happened to getting a second spot for usa? is it possible for day to do what raven did? it will be much more expensive and i don't know if he has any backing but still...

I wondered the same thing. Many zerg players think Paranoid Android is imbalanced (I don't play it enough to have a say in this), so maybe he felt his best chances was to take an early win.
wtf is up with countries only sending 1 usa should get 3 germany should get 3 hell every country but ones with really crap players like kackatakstakastan should get 3 and midian should go.
By the way, after giving GGL shit on the first day, I totally did a 180. I watched pretty much all the DOA, Starcraft and Warcraft that was on that site. The commentary was good and the filming was good.

He was originally (or at least during TLT2) more of T player going tvz tvp tvt. He is good friends with zergstory_namoo so he trains zvt/zvp as of now i guess.
I respect those on SmI. or w/e that don't like the negative comments about "lastgosu," but you have to understand some of the frustration. From my perspective at least (I won't speak for others), as an American BW player, to first have only 1 spot available for our game, and then to have it taken up by someone who is relatively unknown (sorry) who beat everyone's favorite in a final out of nowhere, is just disappointing. From my point of view, here's a breakdown of what happened:
Player A) with the best handle ever was about to go to the world championships and then Player B) with the worst, most cheesy and awful handle ever beat him in really unfortunate circumstances.
So nothing against SMi. , but I don't like this result one bit.
Day[9], ask about pulling a Raven and going to Italy with your own sponsors. PLEASE
in my opinion, new champion is better for the community. i think that makes sense but im not going to argue for it. but fans will be fans. anyway, day already tried to "pull a raven" and, since we're not hearing anything about it, im pretty sure it got turned down.
also, i find that the fans are a lot more hateful and negative than the actual players. it was so obvious the whole time that whoever won was going to win by luck. lastgosu got lucky, day would've been lucky if he had won, artosis and i got lucky that we had relatively easy groups(no offense to the other players in our groups but i think it's obvious that the other groups were better). so in general i dont think the players can be that disappointed since nobody got really screwed over. from my observation, there was nobody that really really deserved it. lastgosu is a talented player and he was able to do the job when the pressure was on so i think he'll be just as good, if not better, than some of the other possible candidates
bine, the fact that you judge the players based on the ID's they use shows how fickle fans can be. day was not everyone's favorite although he was (rightfully) the favorite of the majority. lastgosu has made efforts with showmatches to become more known and now he participates in WCG (unlike a lot of players) and wins it. he's known now - it has to start somewhere. and as far as you always rooting for the favored player? nobody gives a shit. im sure there's a lot of people that root for the underdog. of course people are gonna play favorites, but the fact that kids here refuse to congratulate the champion is just ridiculous. lastgosu was extremely respectful and mannered the entire time and he always is. if you guys cant respect that then it wont be long until BW community turns into DOA (the guys at WCG know what im talking about...) -_-;;

He was the favorite so what!?!? He wasn't the best on that "day" (haha) clearly fame does not directly correlate to skill. You just prefer the house hold name day[9] because you feel you know him. LastGosu is unfamiliar to you therefore you simply have predetermined feelings about him regardless of his skill level. Your opinions are purely nonsensical and people like you "dumb" down society.

Aint this kid the most arrrticulate personality in this forum or wuuut??
I actually feel like we have the best person possible representing us at the Grand Finals. There's no telling how well he'll do there, although theres no telling how well Day would do there. I'm not going to hesitate to say that Sean is very talented and very skilled, but you can't say that lastgosu isn't good. If he isn't that good and Sean should be the one reping us in Italy then why did he lose? Luck? Thats doubtful. He just got outplayed, and the fact that all the players at the final congratulate him and applaud him for how well he did should solidfy that.
Oh, and just to clarify, eth plays ZvT ZvP TvZ. He's been doing this for about 3-4 months now, maybe more. The only MU that he switched to was ZvP instead of TvP, and he already played ZvP quite often.
On September 18 2006 12:25 NonY wrote: also, i find that the fans are a lot more hateful and negative than the actual players. it was so obvious the whole time that whoever won was going to win by luck. lastgosu got lucky, day would've been lucky if he had won, artosis and i got lucky that we had relatively easy groups(no offense to the other players in our groups but i think it's obvious that the other groups were better). so in general i dont think the players can be that disappointed since nobody got really screwed over. from my observation, there was nobody that really really deserved it. lastgosu is a talented player and he was able to do the job when the pressure was on so i think he'll be just as good, if not better, than some of the other possible candidates
very true. so many factors offline that it can never only be decided by skill.
lastgosu is a nice guy and a good player. maybe you wanted day to win, oh well, shit happens. dont blaim lastgosu for it. that 2nd part is directed at the people bitching about lastgosu winning, not nony.
NonY isn't in sMi, although I wish he still was </3, and I don't know who Broken.Mind is. Also, us being in the same team has nothing to do with us agreeing. We disagree on plenty of things since we all have our own set of thoughts. I just wish people could be a bit more appreciative of someone who played their heart out to do as well as they did.
People are just gonna miss DAy cause he sounded like a great guy to party with =[. If I was going to the Grand Finals, I'd want to be partying with DAy too. In that sense, he represents the Americans in more positive ways than just skill.
It's not that Day takes it seriously or it's his lifes work or anything.
But he did put a lot of games into practicing. If you have the right mindset, you do not want to waste that time you spent practicing. For it may have been put to better use. So, he stays concentrated until it's over. ;p
I think you totally misunderstood my remarks. I'm not discounting lastgosu per se, I have no idea who he is, or if he's cool or not. I believe you that he is. My point is not that day is the most famous so he should have won, or anything like that, and I didn't say anything to that effect in my previous post. I'm just saying that from my point of view, as a person not knowing either personally (or being in the same clan as either person) I really wanted day to win and felt awful when he didn't. There were two people I was rooting for, two people that post frequently and nicely on tl.net and who's games I have watched many times, NoNy and Day. And it may not matter to other people, but to me, names are a big part of the aesthetic picture I have of players. Just as I can't picture myself loving a player named "DarkKillerX" I can't get excited for someone I've never heard of named "LastGosu" who just knocked out one of my favorite american players. Again, it's not like I don't think LG deserved it, or that the result is flawed, or that SMi. isn't super awesome, I'm just trying to explain why I am disappointed in the result. Congradulations to Lastgosu, but I can't say I'm excited.
And I didn't mean that Day was everyone's favorite player in the USA or anything, I just meant in this given match, I think Day was the favorite for *most* people here.

Its in my nature. Aesthetics are all that really matter, especially when I don't even know anything about them personally. I think its a totally valid thing to care about, if uncommon. It's just like playstyle. You can't explicitly justify likeing low-econ zerg over macro zerg, it just has to do with taste. And for me, names are important and part of why I like following starcraft. It's just true, doesn't mean other people should, but I do.
name is different from playing style, to say you don't like someone because of the way he plays is a lot less retarded than saying you dont like someone cuz of their name. its ok to judge people that way, but if you do so i have the right to think you have short stompy legs and like to dance to mambo because of the number of posts you have right now. That's all i am i judge by aesthetics. numbers below 700 are like gaugin to me, above 700 = fugly.
Sup guys, sorry I didn't get to post live news like I wanted. I will be making an article tomorrow after I get off of work, with pics and an interview.

hey cut that bullshit out, he eliminated me too. He saved me the job of beating rekrul though then going on to beat froz and taking the bw world by storm.
actually, in our poker game we didnt even put any money down. but, as stupid as it sounds, im sure if you (rekrul) were there, then people would put money down.

u r kiut :$
wtf?
anyway, if the players werent lazy, we would've uploaded the reps ourselves. we were browsing tl.net on the same comps we played on, all the reps were there and the intrawebz was in our hands
wtf nony u nubtard it's not our job to upload the reps. THEY'RE SUPPOSED TO UPLOAD THE REPS. the players arn't supposed to do shit but play. so no... we were not lazy. now im wondering if the reps are lost or something x_x
are there any replays up? did anyone grab reps and stick em in their usb ports or upload to someones email account.. or something.. come on guys i used to get reps up right when i got home =p
